UPDATE: Here it is. (Fox apologized for the fact that I spoke “with someone not authorized to do so who didn’t have information”. Oh, puh-leeze.
Previous: How dopey is Fox Broadcasting? Here their hit show Glee has made this great Sue Sylvester black-and-white promo for the April 20th episode that recreates shot-by-shot Madonna’s iconic “Vogue” video down to the set pieces, the hairpieces, the wardrobe, the lighting, right down to the Gaultier cone bra. (It began airing online last night to highlight next week’s show, “The Power Of Madonna”. As if her new Sticky & Sweet Tour DVD/CD/Blu Ray isn’t getting enough publicity.) But then Fox won’t let websites like Deadline embed it. (Anyone doing it is stealing Fox content.) Instead we can only link to it. When I complained to one of the flacks, I was given some gobbledy-gook about how “we decided not to go that way”. They might as well put Sue back in her track suit.

If you ever go on the VOD sections of FOX’s TV show sites, you will see that NONE of their content can EVER be embedded (by fans or pros). Absolutely ridiculous missed opportunity. Big headscratcher.
Yes Nikki, they should spend all that money producing it, and you should get it for free. Because.
[Of course you won't let this comment through your censorfilter.]
Why the surprise? This conforms nicely to Uberboss Murdoch’s edict that you gotta pay for content online.
Truly embarrasing for FBC to not understand the word– promo.
There are two possible reasons for this:
1. Someone at Fox doesn’t like free advertising, which will not endear them to the Fox mucky-mucks who like getting stuff for free because they are like all network execs, cheap.
2. The record label/music publisher/rights-holder has put all sorts of restrictions on what Fox can do with the video, for fear that someone might record it off their computer and deny them the 33¢ share they’d get from selling it to that person on iTunes.
Well, dan, IT’S FOX, genius is NOT in their genes and they occasionally succeed in spite of themselves.
Maybe Fox is retrofitting the vid in 3D to charge five bucks per view. Sue Sylvester’s cone bra popping off the screen = premium content.
Love it when networks cock block their own fans and * prevent* viral campaigns. Peer advocacy is the most trusted form of advertising. It’s not even show content, it’s a damn PROMO! Inexplicable. Unless being self-sabotaging control freaks counts as explanation…
Does Fox think I have a lot of time to waste clicking on links?
On the Internet?
Linker Please….
I played it directly on another blog (Greg in Hollywood) and it worked fine.
Major studios just don’t get it. Universal & NBC is stingy with their content as well. They don’t understand they’re just hurting themselves. It’s FREE MARKETING. Wake up geniuses.
Rupert now expects everyone to pay for Fox media. Even you.
Welcome to our world. (Please feel free to rip and shred.)
More studio stupidity. If it weren’t for me seeing this here not only would I have never known about this, I wouldn’t vow to watch tonight’s ep or next week’s, because as far as I’m concerned, “GLEE” just isn’t my kind of show.
This looks awesome! Now I have to find out if my former boss David Fincher (the original’s director–so much drama on that set!!!!)is pissed or flattered!
That’s good work all involved. Big effort.
Since when did reproducing pop culture tripe pass as entertainment? Did Jeffrey Katzenberg and Dreamworks Animation produce this?
Cloris Leachman moves pretty well for a 90 year old.
Color me a straight girl totally in love with Jane Lynch. And Ryan Murphy.
I love all the negativity that comes from showbiz failures. This promo was hilarious. To all you showbiz failures – and you know who you are – too bad you don’t have the talent to create something that the public wants to see.
Made me review the original and made me recall my respect for Madonna’s talent at dance and attitude. This is a “parody homage” to that original and Glee fans, myself included, are thrilled. The haters will continue to hate…I can only suspect they don’t get the joke and are taking it all too seriously.
Not funny at all. Mildly interesting for about fifteen seconds.
I don’t get it. Is this supposed to be funny simply because Jane Lynch is imitating Madonna verbatim? I mean, this is an exact copy of the original video, which in itself is not really “parody.”
Had they shown Lynch in her tracksuit doing the video, it might’ve worked better.
