Innovative Artists talent agent Craig Shapiro has moved to ICM where he will join the talent department starting May 1. 
Shapiro had been at Innovative for 17 years, most recently serving as VP and managing partner, running the talent department. He is expected to bring to ICM many of his clients, including The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder and Ugly Betty leading man Eric Mabius. Shapiro will be reporting to Ted Chervin, head of worldwide television; Mike Jelline, head of TV talent; and Toni Howard, head of motion picture talent and will be working with clients in both film and television. His hire comes on the heels of the departure of veteran ICM TV talent agent Tom Burke who was named head of casting for Warner Bros. TV earlier this month.

This is not a great move. ICM is not a great place. If he had moved to any of the other tier two I’d say good move. Even if he’d gone Tier three, Gersh, with a strong title. But ICM is kind of in the middle and gets lost. I wish Craig well but this announcement is simplynot exciting.

Agree — that’s a pretty forward-looking list of recent signees, too. All those people have more great projects in them.
The signee list looks great, but I’m pretty sure most of those people came over with Andrew Rogers from Paradigm.
Credit the ICM Talent headhunters, not the signers, for that one.

But alas, Mr. Harris… be glad someone made it into the major leagues… you can’t keep everyone down.
If they wanted REAL agent talent, they’d bring over Abby Bluestone.
Abby is a good agent, but if ICM really wanted to make headlines they’d buy out Innovative. That would be an agency game-changer.

Makes sense for Shapiro – he’s lost some clients that have gone on to make movies, a weaker track at Innovative. ICM can always use the boost and does know agency talent when they see it. They are hardly 2nd tier – perhaps second to the CAA-WME combine but still above the other 2nds. Plus Innovative does have a glass ceiling as it were for agents – Harris calls the shots and ultimately it’s about doing what he alone says.
Craig has always been a class act.
Wow…this is a major positive step forward for Shapiro and one that he obviously deserves…long time in coming for one of the best in the business, both Shapiro as well as ICM!
…I have followed his career for years and have to say that the sky is the only limit now for ICM…one of the top agencies in the business…Kudos to both of you
Ditto on that last comment! Well deserved and will PROPEL both parties to new heights…Unfortunate for Innovative however…whomever let Shapiro get away is probably going to be canned.. BIG TIME! Oh well, Innovative was once OK but I will be watching to see if they go into “freefall” mode….YIKES!!!!
I do like those guys at Innovative – they’re good guys – no matter what some snarky assistants post here – forget their boss, name one bad seed – they’re called Fortitude now… Craig was one of the best of the bunch. Good agent, good company guy. He made a lot of jobs happen for that list and really helped build a lot of great clients. ICM’s bringing him in to help out with their talent, just watch what he’ll do at this other level.
For anybody really observing, the agency business is changing
Smart clients will be with the agencies that place the client number 1 on the importance list – not after the agency, the agent, the studio, the network and the night watchman.
Large agencies are headed for meltdowns, agencies like Innovative are rising.
Craig was my first boss. He is a great guy and and a great agent. Very happy for him. He has held on to most of his clients, while the bigger agencies came in and poached where they could. His career will only go up from here. Good move ICM and good move Craig.

The tool even posts negative comments on a board about Ray Romano. Really? Ray Romano? WHO CARES? Hey, Anhonestanswer, get over yourself and step away from the keyboard.

My belief is that FuriousD poaches opinions in an effort to appear knowledgeable about a business I question his experience in, BUT at least he strays more towards the positive while Anhonestanswer probably lathers himself up in oatmeal from the bowels of mom’s basement and sneaks on her computer while she’s at work to post insane drivel with a closing “Thank you.”
