EXCLUSIVE: In what could turn into a genuine Sopranos-like look at growing up in an organized crime family, mob scion John Gotti Jr. is ready to tell his story in a documentary film, a feature film, and a book. Gotti Jr., the former head of the Gambino crime family, will soon be looking to make deals to tell a father-son story and what it was like to grow up with a dad who was the most famous mob boss in America. Gotti Jr. followed in his father’s criminal footsteps, eventually taking over after his father, John Gotti, was sent to prison for life for racketeering and other offenses. Junior, who has long maintained he left the crime game in 1999, is free to tell his tale after federal prosecutors in January announced they would not seek a 5th trial against Gotti Jr for alleged offenses that included racketeering and murder. The first 4 cases resulted in mistrials.
Gotti Jr will cooperate with Triplicity Entertainment, a New York-based production company that was formed in 2005. Among its founders is Tony D’Aiuto, one of the attorneys who successfully defended Gotti Jr in his last trial. Gotti Jr. intends to be fully involved in the screenplay and production process. The key will be whether mainstream publishers and film companies want to directly be in business with a man who, despite the legal outcome, has an undeniable organized crime bloodline and background.
D’Aiuto confirmed Gotti Jr’s plans, which the attorney is formulating with Triplicity partner Vince Prezioso. Gotti Jr spent a total of nine years in jail, including three in solitary confinement. He began writing down his story about four years ago, and is 75% finished with his book. He’s scheduled to appear in a segment of the CBS News show 60 Minutes on April 11, which he’s using as an opportunity to clear up misconceptions about himself and his family. He hasn’t formally signed with any agents yet but there have already been approaches made for a documentary, which, among other things, will feature the emotional last meeting in prison between Gotti Jr, and his father before the latter died of cancer in the prison where he spent his final 10 years. That encounter was filmed.
Triplicity hasn’t set a director for the documentary, but D’Aiuto said the plan is for the film to be completed by spring, 2011. While Gotti Jr. undoubtedly has plenty of legal bills, D’Aiuto said part of Gotti’s motivation is to fund a youth center, one that might steer kids away from lives of crime.
Even casual watchers of The Sopranos or films like The Godfather or Goodfellas know that crime families are based on keeping quiet, and that loose lips always sink ships, and crime families. How much can Gotti Jr. actually reveal? “He’s willing to go all the way, revealing as much as possible without hurting anyone who’s still involved in the street life,” D’Aiuto said.

Nikki, do you know the agents behind this project?
Dear Interesting:
Here’s how it works. You pay Gotti and then you become his order taker. And he’ll spin a “true” story just like F.R. did. Anyone who gets involved with this guy needs their head — no, their soul — examined.
Why are we paying a criminal to exploit his crimes? Sure the guy went to jail, but that doesn’t mean we should reward him for his troubles.
His troubles should be his own reward. The takers are lining up because they never met an offer they couldn’t refuse.
So, this site has become a tool to help organized crime figures land deals? You getting something back from it? ‘Cause they would think you a FESSACHIONE if you didn’t make that deal for yourself.
I thought that role was reserved for the L.A. Times. (i.e. Chuck Philips writing that Joe Isgro has the rights to Lucky Luciano — funny that, since Luciano is a public figure).
The Gotti name is one that needs to be scraped off this nation’s boots. The stench is overwhelming.
A youth center. Give me a fucking break. Who are they trying to fool? That tactic is as old as Big Jim.
The men in organized crime are evil. The people involved in it are violent. It rips apart lives. Nothing good comes from it. Ever.
Who will be the PAGLIACIO stupid enough to give this criminal their money? I’d really like to know.
Fools.
my question is, is he gonna live long enough to make this movie?
They shouldn’t reward this smug criminal with a dime. Gotti and his ilk have bilked New York City for years. They’ve had their hand in everything, including muscling film productions in the city.
I think there will be a monumental amount of fiction involved in creating this story. The name Gotti is no longer relevant and organized crime is really not so organized anymore. It died with his father.
Pshhh!
I don’t buy the crap about funding a youth center. He would be profiting from stories violent crimes HE committed (even if it is in the past-which I personally doubt). It is the same kind of repulsive that Victoria and her skeevy kids enjoyed fame and $$ from showing off the lux life that her Daddy’s ill-gotten gains afforded them.
Gee. The Hypocrites.
After all that Hollywood has done to perpetrate the images of Italians, Blacks, Jews, Hispanics etc as drug dealers, criminals thugs and murderers you would think they would just open their wallets and say MONEY MAKER. The controversy alone will pack the theaters.

After all it started when some guys from NY did some illegal things and were chased out with baseball bats from NY. Then chased out of Jacksonville and landed in far away LA.
Touching, because the baseball guys were from corporate America.
How many Emmys did the Sopranos win. Who voted for that?
If you stop glamorizing the life then you shouldn’t complain. Now should I write that Western or Mafia movie. Umh?
Without a doubt, the public is often fascinated by the fact and fiction of organized crime. Gotti, Jr. would certainly not be the first or last to try to capitalize on this. Henry Hill was the source material for “Goodfellas” which is probably Scorsese’s best film…or certainly one of them.
Quite frankly, Goodfeelas, Godfather I & II are at the very top of my favorite films. I have no love or respect for the Gambino family or the Gotti family or any of the other organized crime syndicates that have influenced our society, but they are a part of the culture.
That being said, I find these films when done well to be quite appealing, and if Gotti, Jr.and his team write and produce a good story whether fact and/or fiction…it will work.
Truly, I think taking a “high moral stance” is just fooling yourselves. The public loves well done stories about evil people fact or fiction…and so does the Academy. Just ask Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Javier Bardem, and most recently, Christoph Waltz.
Evil sells…period.
well said, Tom.
I agree with “8movies5plays” and “Tom”. You both nailed it. This is Hollywood. Everyone is in it to make money. I guarantee anyone who has ever made it big in Hollywood has sold a tiny part of their sould to get where they got – or at least they know someone who has. It’s as dirty of a business as the mafia. The stats are clear and the fact is that mafia movies and stories draw in a big crowd making Hollywood, producers, directors, writers, and actors a lot of cash. I think each individual is responsible for their own actions and when they see films like these it should teach them about life and how NOT to live. This is how we learn in life. How do we know what’s right unless we know what’s wrong. Mafia movies show us exactly what is wrong. I hope who ever signs on to write this movie is able to tell the story in a way that crime is not portrayed as glamorous or glorified and there is some redemption somewhere in the script. As far as Gotti Jr making money off the deal – I’m sure there are just as many horriffic people in Hollywood making money doing just as bad if not worse than Gotti Jr has – they just havent been living under a microscope and haven’t gotten caught yet. And lets face it, who are we to judge. If someone is flawless and perfect and has never wronged anyone in their life please step forward. I agree murder is wrong and I don’t agree with it at all – but maybe the guy really has made some changes in his life and found his conscience. If not, then he has to live with himself every day and probably lives in torment and will never truly be happy which is punishmnet in itself. So let Hollywood be Hollywood, let people keep making money, and let the story be told. That’s how we live in the US. Every man for himself. Maybe we will all get something out of it. And for those of you who are completely against the idea of a film or book or John Ghotti Jr making a profit – then good for you! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should take a stand on something they believe in. That is very commendable. This movie will be made and millions of people will see it. History always repeats itself so grab some popcorn and get ready fo the next crime movie. Hopefully in the end, justice will prevail and Ghotti will have found his soul.
Let me get this straight. Now that he won’t be charged again for everything he was accused of, he’s going to basically admit to everything to make a profit?
This is like the mob equivalent of the book “If I Did It”
Gee, thugs entering the film biz. At least they won’t be lonely.
I have read of laws in most states that prevented criminals from telling their stories for profit, and how these laws have been overturned by higher courts based on first amendment rights of speech. But I am also pretty sure that most states in the past few years now have voted in new laws that give film, and novel profits to the victims of the the persons. I don’t know if Gotti Junior’s story will fit this situation, or if New York even has these “Son of Sam” laws on the books, but it would be something worth looking into. From what I understand families affected by the crimes of the Mafioso can sue for any profits that he would receive from the film, documentary, and novel about his crimes.
Adam,
It was New York State’s own “Son of Sam” law that reached the U.S. Supreme Court and was found to be unconstitutional back in 1991. Since that ruling, many states, including New York and California, have re-written their “Son of Sam” laws in an effort to address the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling and stated concerns (including a concern that the law in question resulted in a full forfeiture of the felon’s earnings regardless of the damage suffered by the decedent’s survivors). However, to my knowledge, the U.S. Supreme Court has not yet “blessed” any “Son of Sam” type statute.
On a separate, but somewhat related note, most states have laws that preclude a felon from inheriting or otherwise receiving money or other assets from any person they killed intentionally. And, these full forfeiture laws have been upheld and remain in place.
Will the filmmakers dare to touch the friendship between Gotti, Sr and the Westies who were in control of the Theatrical Teamsters Local 817, drivers and helpers union??? And how about the non Italian connected guy who runs Aerial Angel trucking for filmmakers in NYC ???
All of this is written in up the book “The Westies.”
I think iamnoahjames.com said it best:
“This is like the mob equivalent of the book ‘If I Did It’”
Both men killed multiple people and should have been punished accordingly. Instead, both men were set free to walk the streets and write stories that would (if published) allow them to profit from their crimes. It seems that, like OJ, JG,J has come away from his experience with a false sense of fame and invulnerability. So, I won’t be at all surprised if JG,J follows OJ’s path and ends up back in a cell (or, as someone said above, simply dead and buried) and forgotten in a very short time.
I wish I could be a scumbag and get away with it.
I think this is very interesting, I would go see the movies to see the ” truth ” about the lives and ways lived by the mafia. Being an artist I don’t think Hollywood movies are always an accurate depiction of the real world, and they tend to glamourize everything, after a while the truth and facts are distorted and the general public are deceived with wrong information, so this way at least Gotti is educating movie makers on how to make mafia movies! Learning and understanding many subjects in life is very important!
As far as judgment from other readers, I would like to see a government worker do movies of the behind scenes of all the lies, stealing, cover up of our system / corruption, and expose them as well….I don’t think anyone is more of a saint than anyone else unless they were born one!
We can only hope to learn from watching others make mistakes and not do the same…as JESUS said ” For he who has not sinned, shall cast the first stone! ”
Happy Easter to all. Remember to keep an open mind and have a forgiving heart!:)
It’s one thing to forgive … but yet another to reward. you don’t reward the devil. you force it back into hell.
You seem to have some very sharp and radical opinions. Have you examined yourself lately? I’m assuming thay you must have been a member of the Gambino family yourself and know all of the details of the Gotti family’s escapades. Being certain that this man is one hundred percent guilty, maybe you should contact your local government official…because obviously you kow something that they don’t. Regardless, I’m just tired of people pointing the finger. Enough damage has been caused by that already. Our collective lack of vision to see all circumstances regarding any situation is the downfall of this country. But I’d guess you don’t see that eitherr.
I was a victim of organized crime.
You’re sick of people pointing the finger? Amazing, I’m sure organized crime is thrilled to have you as their Minister of Blind Obedience.
But save us your spiel about humanity’s “collective lack of vision.” All I learned from your post is that you’re a pseudo-intellect with a soft spot for sociopaths and haughty stupidity.
Victor, I apologize for calling you a “pseudo intellect.” I have no way of gauging this information based on a single post.
The rest, I stand by.
Can’t this film be used as evidence against him in a 5th trial?
Yeah if he wasnt dead.
The person they need to contact is Richard Hammer. Richard is the preeminent real crime novelist in the world. Here is a list of his credits he has done 3-4 incredible books on the biggest organized crime.
The Last Testament of Lucky Luciano
Hoffa’s Man, The Rise and Fall of Jimmy Hoffa as Witnessed by his Strongest Arm ( Blistering story of power abused, Richard Hammer documents the rise and fall of Jimmy Hoffa as witnessed by Joe
The Hoodlum Empire: The Survival of the Syndicate
The Helmsleys: The Rise and Fall of Harry and Leona Helmsley
The CBS Murders: The True Story of Greed and Violence in NY’s Diamond District
Blood From a Stone: The Quest for the Life Diamonds
i think he also wrote the treatment for Broadway’s The Jersey Boys
Hey kids, enjoy your new youth center. And remember…crime pays!
John Gotti Jr IS DEAD IDIOTS.
April fools, the lot of you.
Anita: kinda bitter? Why pick on Nikki? Didn’t you do a “Gotti” on Moldea?
You are a sick and truly uninformed individual.
JOHN…omerta….your dad is spinning in his grave!
Here’ a novel idea: Instead of glorifying criminals and focusing on the superficial happiness (girls, money, drugs, booze, sex…..looking at you Entourage)…why don’t we and try and tell uplifting stories about men and women of sound moral character. This man is a murderer and a thief, nothing more.
I think it will be interesting if JOHN GOTTI jr tells his story.MAFIA STORIES REAL OR FICTION ARE ALWAYS FASCINATING.
nanpalmero They had an intvw w John Gotti Jr. Its always interesting to get a glimpse into a life that most fear amp; know little about.
