Lately, Katherine Heigl is a one-woman wrecking crew when it comes to the Hollywood PR machinery. Many are blaming her “momager” (I love that moniker…). So for 6 years the actress, who’s now exiting Grey’s Anatomy to focus on her film career, was repped by PMK/HBH flack Jill Fritzo out of New York. But Heigl decided she needed an LA-based PR rep so went with Melissa Kates at the firm. Then the merger with BNC happened, and Kates went out on her own. Next thing anyone knew, Kates fired Heigl as a client 6 weeks ago. “PR people rarely resign from accounts,” one long-time publicist told me, “especially when starting their own company, and the client in question is a legitimate movie star.” So then Heigl signed with Kelly Bush who immediately had to do damage control on an Entertainment Weekly cover story on Heigl. “Kelly did amazing job. That EW piece was initially a takedown but she turned it into a love letter,” one of my sources explains. No matter, Heigl fired Bush after only 5 weeks in the ID-PR fold. Now I’ve learned that Heigl is back with Jill Fritzo at BNC/PMK. “I took her back with open arms,” Fritzo told a pal of mine.

Heigl’s… well, a b****, for lack of a better word. And her acting’s atrocious. So this back-and-forth comes as no real surprise.
Where’s the long line in town waiting for that !@$@##$#$ fish-face to go down in flames, so I can go take my place?
That’s not true…PR people who are starting off can drop a celeb client, especially if they’re not paying. No one needs their reputation ruined as a result of their client’s idiocy.
Yes – it is true. A longtime PR pal of mine told me a while ago her “momager” is a total nightmare as in obnoxious and with her daughter a little too much – as in everyday (what’s that say about Heigl?). That said – Heigl’s team has done an amazing job taken her from “that girl on Grey’s Anatomy” to “that girl in “Knocked Up” who proved herself as a major B.O. entity not to be messed with in 27 Dresses. That said, PR people are some the biggest scum on the face of this planet – so I wouldn’t be surprised if they call just couldn’t deal with having to show up on time and actually prove their worth. Oh, and Kelly Bush influenced a friends of mine firing back in the day – she’s a good person (sarcasm).
Umm..that said lol
Perhaps if she wasn’t such an arrogant diva bitch complaining about some of the best writers in TV she wouldn’t need a publicist. She’d get nothing but good publicity. Adopting a Korean baby was nice but what she really needs is to adopt a new attitude. You’re hot now honey but eventually your star will fade and you’ll be back on TV in a sit-com titled “Krazy for Kathy” or “Hello Heigl”
“Best writers in TV”? Seriously? Either you’re Shonda Rhimes herself, or you’ve missed seasons 3-6 (if the latter, YOU WIN).
Well, I daresay the team at Grey’s is better than the writers on Killers, The Ugly Truth, and the latest mess she was in with Duhamel. She’s probably wishing right now she hadn’t slagged off the Grey’s team so brutally.
I don’t get Heigl…seems overrated bunch of overacting here. Who cares?
I am going Team Kates on this one. Having worked with her for many years with many different clients, some admittedly difficult (look at her roster) I know she can handle most any bizarreness that comes with talent, so if she let this rumored trainwreck go, she is much much worse than we will ever know.
I met her once at an event and she was polite as it was a charity dinner but she for sure had the “I could burn this Bitch down” crazy look in her eyes when she realized her seating there was not the very very best. People I know on Grey’s partied hard when she finally left after much back and forth, but again that is not unusual. Getting let go by Kates, she has to be a fast growing tumor.
THE WORST. It’s not a PR problem, it’s her whole agent/momager team.
And she looks like Ashton’s mom in KILLERS trailer.
she’s an overrated mess who doesn’t deserve kates. that said, the “firing” of clients by publicists is classic pmk (god rest its sole) behavior. smoke and mirrors!
Seems like these are just comments from a bunch of bitter haters. It sounds more like the angry Heigl haters convention than any sort of informed comment. So she switched publicists twice. Big deal. She was with Jill Fritzo the entire time she was with Melissa Kates remember. Not sure I get the big drama here. Kates went out on her own and perhaps Heigl’s team felt they would be better off with a bigger company and switched to ID. Seems it didnt work out there so she went back to her original company. Hardly a crime.
Say what you like about the “momager” but isn’t Heigl something like the world’s third highest paid movie actress – she took $24 million for her two movies this year alone (let alone TV salary, endorsements and all that) so says IMDB. Just checking her profile and she has an Emmy and numerous other awards and been one of the stars of a hugely successful TV show…and has now made the switch to movies pretty seamlessly. I reckon mom probably doesn’t charge her daughter manager rates either! So I am thinking that most people in the business would give a lot for that kind of success. From what I hear her mom just is hard nosed business woman who doesn’t take crap from anyone.
What you said, Kev.
Jealous are we?….. She is beautiful and i love all of her movies. She’s an amazing actress. HATERS hahaha…keep hating and watching her shine
Wow, you probably feel kinda silly now that her last two films have bombed.
It is terribly sad what happens to some people when they get successful! The self- importance factor is overwhelming! Seriously it makes me sick, she is one lucky albeit talented girl but all of this hubbub makes me never want to see her on the screen again. First she bites the hand that fed her (the writers of Grey’s Anatomy), getting all up in that crazy Isaiah Washington’s insane business, then all of this firing and hiring and strategic nonsense that is backfiring in so many ways! She needs to shut up, be humble and grateful for the ride, thank God that movie stars are over paid and help out a little! Jeesh! She is not curing cancer!
I’m part of the general movie/film audience that reads Deadline for the interesting upcoming film news. I do not work in the industry.
So, I just have to say, I never liked Ketherine Heigl’s public persona, character personas on film, or anything in between. She seems flat out crazy. Everytime she did an interview, I became annoyed.
She’s such a nice person, i don’t understand all the drama. I was her agent when all she could get were Hallmark Channel movies. I put her on Grey’s Anatomy and she fired us for it….who could blame her?…That show did nothing for her career. And her mom is the sweetest person alive….They’re still on my Christmas Card list I like them so much.
KILLERS is going to bomb. The script was an absolute mess and the production sloppy. Tracking on it is horrible.
It was called “Five Killers” and now “Killers” but personally I would go with “Cinco de Muerto”, got a nice ring to it…
All the gossip sites not connected with a TV show or publication that I read really seem to hate her.
her mother is a nightmare and the whole team over estimates her appeal. Jill is a saint and if anyone can steer the heigl drama, it’s her. heigl needs to reinvent: lose the mother, lose the agent and lose the brunette and maybe she’ll have a chance at a comeback.
A comeback? Come back from where? Her last movie grossed over $200M worldwide. Plus, I’m fairly certain the brunette hair is for her next role, in the movie adaptation of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. With a thriving film career and her recent pardon from Grey’s Anatomy, an aging series in steep creative and ratings decline, things are looking up for her, not down.
I don’t think the EW cover story was a Valentine at all. It was the first balanced, honest piece I’d read about her, and the writer had the balls to confront her with everything. Whether Heigl was telling the truth, that was for the reader to decide, but I thought EW did a good job of holding her feet to the fire. She came off at times sympathetic, at times wacky and has maybe been breathing the Hollywood rarified air a little too long. Reminds me of the EW interviews the magazine used to do, when whack jobs like Whitney, Courtney and Russel Crowe would say all kinds of sh–.
My take on Katherine Heigl is she likes what she’s doing and she cares about the quality of what she’s doing. This has made her successful, as her enjoyment of acting comes across on film. It also makes her not necessarily a team player if her “team” wants to just push something out the door, or otherwise interfere with her vision of a projects quality. I remember a radio interview when she was newly married. She faced a decision of squeezing in the Superbowl (for her husband) or arriving in Europe for her next project in time to be rested and prepared. She gave the quality of her project first priority! Like Andrew Carnegie who made his managers rich, but had very much of a what have you done for me lately attitude, I think Katherine is all about project management, which rubs some people the wrong way.
i have worked with a ton of talent and pain in the ass momagers for over ten years. None are as bad as Katie and Nancy. White trash, unappreciative, disrespectful, ungracious, entitled, classless… Karma is a bitch and will continue to bite them both in the ass if they don’t figure it out soon.
Heigl showed she couldn’t act in “Knocked Up”. Kristen Wiig blew Heigl off the screen in their scenes.
Thank you, Kristen Wiig’s publicist.
