This new animated series is going to be comedic and involve the creators of Robot Chicken, including Seth Green, who did the successful Star Wars parody specials. will now be involved. No network is lined up yet but the Cartoon Network airs Star Wars: The Clone Wars , while Robot Chicken runs on the Adult Swim block:
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. April 5, 2010) – Lucasfilm Animation is currently developing an all-new animated Star Wars series, focusing its efforts on the comedic aspects of the “galaxy far, far away.” Featuring creative involvement from Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, creators and executive producers of the Emmy and Annie Award-winning Robot Chicken, as well as writing from The Daily Show’s Brendan Hay, the series will look at the Saga’s characters with a playful and irreverent tone. The series will be produced by Daytime Emmy and Gemini Award-winner Jennifer Hill (The Backyardigans), and directed by Emmy-nominated Todd Grimes (Back at the Barnyard).
“There are so many stories taking place in the Star Wars universe, and they don’t all have to focus on the fate of the galaxy,” said Grimes. “We’re looking at Star Wars from a new perspective; this will be a glimpse at how the rest of the galaxy is affected by the events of the Saga. There’s a lot of humor to be mined from that.”
“The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it’s crazy to think that there aren’t normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined,” said Green. “And it’s even crazier to think of what those problems might be, since it’s all set in a galaxy far, far away. What do these characters do when they’re not overthrowing Empires?”
Said Senreich, “We’re going to pull back the curtain of some of those behind-the-scenes shenanigans. It’s going to appeal to all ages, the way Star Wars should – but there’ll be plenty buried under the surface, as well. As Obi-Wan might say, ‘it all depends on your point of view’.”

Anything for a buck, George…
You wanna see something funny, check out Dancing with the Star Wars stars on youtube. You can’t write that stuff.
I’m thinking of a wacky odd couple buddy comedy starring Jabba the Hutt and Chewbacca.
Whatever happened to that Star Wars scripted drama they were supposed to be working on? That had the potential to be really awesome if put in the hands of the right people.
I know Lucas wants to recruit another generation of Star Wars nerds, but c’mon.
i’m thinking of a cartoone series about a teen pop band with a young Princess Leia, teenaged C3PO and DJ Hans Solo.
Judging from the “all ages” comment, this will be considerably toned down from the ROBOT CHICKEN sketches that inspired it…
bored already. Lucas shd just leave Star Wars as it is.
Crap on a stick. Hope it fails so Lucas can get his ego in check.
First, you put a Twilight or Avatar post up here, it gets dozens of comments within hours. Five posts in 24 hours suggests nobody gives a damn about this news.
Second, Mr. Lucas lost a lot of goodwill with the prequels. Executed correctly, they could have rekindled people’s passion for Star Wars. Even now, years later, fans are angry about the dogfood that was served to them on a gilded plate.
Third, Empire-Approved comedy does not go down well with the downtrodden masses. A Rush-Limbaugh-Approved parody of Rush Limbaugh is not going to rack up the laughs. The only way this will work is if the writers have full creative control, no matter how painful that may be.
Fourth, some people say George Lucas started out like Luke Skywalker and has transformed into the Emperor. I think he’s more like Doctor Frankenstein; he has become a slave to the monster he created. Nature wants it to die, but he’s working hard to find ever more ingenious ways to give the giant beast a transient jolt of life.
Fifth, (no matter what the members of De La Soul say, five is the magic number) if you want to rekindle the passion for Star Wars, reboot the feature series. With all the crud that’s being remade, why not throw this franchise into the mix.
I thought they already made a Star wars comedy for TV. it was called their Christmas special.
Pathetic. Just pathetic. I suppose it’ll be animated in Singapore too. Star Wars is clearly in the “Who gives a shit” phase Star Trek was in a decade ago.
For the Clone Wars do we get an ambitious live-action $100 million dollar mega series? Something along the lines of Band of Brothers or The Pacific? Nope. We get a cartoon. A stupid cartoon with no other purpose other than to sell toys.
How about a TV megaseries based on the Tales of the Jedi or Knights of the Old Republic comics? Nah. Silly fools. You silly, silly Deadline reading fools! Too expensive! It won’t sell enough toys!
So we get an animated shit-com instead.
Thank god for the books. Others will feel differently, but as far as I’m concerned the writers of the books and comics are ones TRULY continuing Star Wars.
The worst thing to happen to Star Wars “fans” was that the saw Pulp Fiction and became FEELM enthusiasts and probably had some sex too. How quaint is a 30′s style serial in the internet age? Expecting these people to even know the style being aped is nonsensical. Even the originals were called corny by the intellgenstia of the day but that was part of the reason they made such an impact, since recent fare was ambiguous and even sometimes fatalistic by comparison. I’m sure if Lucas had found a way to shoe horn in some Jedi erotica he might have been forgiven a bit more.
Oh and you’re welcome for virtually every significant production and exhibition innovation, and the demand for them, going on about 30 years now.
