Former Sony Pictures TV senior marketing executive Alan Daniels is in talks to rejoin the studio as a consultant in the wake of the abrupt exit last week of marketing president Bob Oswaks. Daniels, a 20-plus Sony TV veteran, served as SVP of marketing at SPT under Oswaks until he departed in the first wave of layoffs at Sony Pictures Entertainment last year. Because of his intimate knowledge of Sony TV’s marketing operations, Daniels was approached about the consulting gig immediately after Oswaks’ departure and is expected to have a significant role in Sony TV’s marketing department while the studio may look for a permanent marketing chief replacement.

Had the pleasure of working with Alan in a past life, he is not only a consummate professional and stand-up guy, but an incredibly smart marketer. Sony’s mistake was letting him go in the first place, they should just put him back on staff and be done with it.
Great move. Allen is a genius.
Alan is a really nice guy and people do like him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the creative expertise or vision to elevate Sony Pictures Television marketing to where it needs to be. Figures that they’d go back to the tried and true.
HOORAY!
Harvey Milktoast rejoins Sony (after being pink-sliipped)…..genious?…..NOT, out-of-work and desperate….YES!!!
I had the pleasure of working with Alan Daniels for many years when I was on the trade side. Sony should count themselves lucky to have him back and on their team.
Good for both parties involved! Smart choice
Alan is definitely better than Bob, and an overall good guy, but he’s no genius. I sat in many a meeting where he sat like a cow chewing cud, without a point of view. Hopefully he can boost morale and help mend the team, but I doubt he’s the long-term leader.
Alan is a great go-to guy, competent, but no, not a creative genius. But Harpo can provide that. They just need a dependable guy.
Shame on Michael Lynton for allowing Mosko to get rid of Grindon. Michael is 10 times the intellectual that Mosko is.
How is the Digital Backbone doing, Chris Cookson? How many millions have you spent on Accenture, Cognizant, and Cap Gemini consultants? What are you fine team of EVPs (Don Loughery, George Joblove, etc, etc) doing? How much money are they making from the company, even as funding dries up for the Digital Media Group? EAGL is underfunded! Take my advice: get rid of your fancy-schmancy EVPs and promote Ben Masek to their place!
Ben Masek is a true leader, can out think all your old pals from Warners (where you were kicked out by Darcy Antonellus, by the way). For goodness sake, the man has engineering degree from CalTech! Let him take over things and you can go off sailing into retirement – where you belong!
