EXCLUSIVE:Though all the focus has been on casting of The First Avenger:Captain America, Marvel Studios is also gearing up another priority property, Runaways. Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is negotiating to direct the youth oriented film that is being called The Breakfast Club with superheroes. Runaways was hatched by Brian K. Vaughan, the Lost writer, and deals with children of supervillains who are cursed with evil powers but use them for heroic purposes. They are housed in a secret lair under the La Brea Tar Pits, and Joss Whedon wrote installments of the comic when Vaughan was unavailable. The film will be distributed under Marvel’s pre-Disney deal with Paramount Pictures. WME and Oasis Media Group rep Sollett.

Are “The Losers” and “The A Team” the same movie? Just asking…
not at all. RUNAWAYS is about a bunch of teens who learn that their parents are super-villains, so they ‘runaways’ discovering their own “mutant” abilities in the process. Depending on which they go with X-MEN; FIRST CLASS, there may be some overlap, but from what i’m hearing about FC the two projects will be able to stand on their own two feet. Now, whether DC ever wants to get a TEEN TITANS movie up and running, that’s a different story.
Not to be incredibly geeky, oh wait too late:
Of the Runaways, only one is a mutant (8year old girl who punches like The Hulk), of the others one is a witch from a magical family, one is a space alien, one owns a pet Veciloraptor thanks to her time-travelling parents, one has gadgets thanks to his mad scientist parents, one is a tactical genius.
They are later joined by a cyborg (son of killer robot father and human mother), a shape-changing, gender-swapping alien and a refugee from the early 20th century.

You missed one: the girl from the past who grows plants when the witch gets an upgrade on the staff of one. Yes, I am a geek.
No, that was the refugee from the early 20th century, They got that.
Guess I’ll have to nerd one-up you on this one. It actually isn’t a velociraptor, it’s a Deinonychus. I loved these comics, such a feel good, thrilling story with characters any audience member can identify with. I think it’s a smart choice getting Sollett for this.
And CAA reps Brian K. Vaughan and Joss Whedon — this movie is going to be awesome.
Great Director. Looking forward to seeing this film.
They should get Joss to write it
It’s Vaughan’s script/adaptation. It’s been around for a while, although I’m sure Joss has seen it since he was the first writer besides Vaughan to do the comic.
I wonder how this will
do…there is zero nostalgia factor with these characters–it’s ALL concept and execution.
Also wondering what Marvel’s next FLOP movie will be? Punisher: War Zone was the last one but in addition the the giant super hits, that company has racked up
quite a few flops in the last decade: Elektra & Man Thing were outright bombs and Daredevil and 03′ Hulk were disappointments financially.
Chernin’s Daredevil reboot gets my vote…
Marvel did not have direct control over those films you referenced.
Whedon? NO THANKS. Did you read the Buffy Comics he penned recently? They are AWFUL.
“The Breakfast Club with superheroes”
oh lawd that sounds terrible.
There are so many things wrong with this…..
Please, Make this Film Watchable. The Book was ruined by Immomen, and I really want soomething to make me love the characters again.
WHAT DID DISNEY BUY? What properties can they exploit? Just curious, b/c Marvel is going nuts right now and Disney, who owns them has no stake any of this stuff right?
Fuck Joss. BKV is better write this movie… or else.
one of my all time favorites. can’t wait.
As long as it’s not Josh Whedon because I’d be nice to have this be a hit movie.
I would love for someone to produce a super villains movie based on the Suicide Squad from DC, but I guess this is getting me closer to my cinematic nirvana- the children of super villains gone good.
By the way, for anyone who is curious, the reason why the Suicide Squad would be great is that the premise of the comic would be a movie like the Dirty Dozen, but with super powers.
Yes!!! Finally! I am so looking forward to seeing this movie, I just hope it meets my expectations, for it is the first of its kind to depict a bunch of teenage heroes with no real ‘authority’ as such to dictate who they are, a very original story with a very diverse set of characters. When’s it out?
