CBS News released more excerpts from the Sunday interview with Conan O’Brien on 60 Minutes.
Asked to comment on NBC statements that The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien was losing money, O’Brien said, “I honestly don’t see how that’s possible. It’s really not possible. It isn’t possible.”
Regrets?
“I don’t regret anything. I don’t regret one decision I made in that week and a half period. I wish it had ended differently. But, I’m fine. I do believe, and this might be my Catholic upbringing or Irish magical thinking, but I think things happen for a reason. I really do.”
Was He Screwed?
“The biggest thing people come up and say to me in gas stations and restaurants, I have so many people say this to me. ‘Hey partner, you got screwed.’ I don’t, and I always tell them, ‘No, I didn’t. I didn’t get screwed. I’m fine. It just didn’t work out.’
Resolved His Issues?
“No, I have not resolved all my issues. I am mostly very happy. I love this tour it’s the most thrilling thing I’ve done in my career. And so I’m in a really great place in a lot of ways. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t have my moments of everything, you know, anger, disappointment, frustration and just confusion.”

Actually Conan our revenue projections told us that we’d lose a lot of money over the coming year if we kept you at 11:35. Charts and graphs and all our data told us you would ultimately cost us money. You should’ve taken the midnight slot because eventually Leno is going to suffle off the stage and at that point you’d have been moved up to 11:35. So stop whining and complaining. Good luck at TBS it’s the perfect place for you they’ll treat you like a king and you’ll have a lot of fun there. You never should’ve been given the Tonight Show to start with your 12:35 show was brilliant and I knew that you’d dumb down your comedy for the 11:35 slot. I also predicted you’d be crushed by Letterman. And if Leno had gone to ABC you’d have wound up in third place. That’s what should have happened but Jay was a coward too terrified to change networks. NBC Flack, you’re an idiot and since Conan’s too big a guy to deal with all the haters I’ll tell you where you can stick your graph. With regards to the run on the Tonight Show, there’s no way any chart can tell you how he “would have done” if Jay had nutted up and moved on. Jay decimated his lead in plain and simple, and if you’re a part of that monstrosity that decided killing scripted in leu of keeping a hack was a good idea, you need to no longer work in this town. That’s pretty much a consensus. Shove it.
A “big guy” wouldn’t be out attention whoring at every conceivable opportunity. He’s a celebrity, so I don’t expect any more or less from him.
I used to be a fan of this guy, but the disgustingly self-aggrandizing way he’s come across (again and again and again and again) since this ridiculous “late nite war” began has turned me off to him for good.
Cut the guy some slack, he basically got screwed in the worst possible fashion (whether he wants to admit that or not). He was invited to do an interview by CBS and he said ‘sure’, so what’s the big deal? At least he’s being humble about the whole thing, and not coming off like a big douche like Jay Leno.
Conan’s fans will follow him to TBS. As popular as Leno has been with the Tonight Show, his “fans” did not follow him to 10pm.

Conan has a lot of talent his current tour is funny and he really was hilarious at 12:30 his comedy was groundbreaking; look how lame and awful Jimmy Fallon is by comparison. Fallon should have been cancelled after his first show it was horrendous and it’s not getting any better.
I think Conan will succeed on TBS he’ll be able to do his old show in a much better time slot and his ratings will be excellent he’s definitely going to cream Jon Stewart and Colbert in that hour. Those guys are the ones who will lose viewers to Conan. He made the right choice going to TBS it’s better than FOX better than Comedy Central but not quite as good as HBO would have been for him.

Leno’s fans did not “follow him” to 10pm, that is a fact. They watch him at 11:35pm because he is comfort food, because he is there and is easy. Conan is bizarre, and interesting, and clever, and appealing to those in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s. This is all common knowledge though. He will thrive at TBS. Now as for NBC FLACK’s comment: You’re what’s wrong with this business. This industry. End of story.
Letterman was on Regis today, and he got it just about right: “Conan’s off counting his money,” and “Jay’s back where he belongs.”
WTF? He never said that. If anyone hates to the core of his very being, its David Letterman. Yes, he’s cooled to him in recent years, but still…Leno stole his dream job in 1992. Jay “belongs” nowhere. He wasn’t funny in 1992, and he still isn’t. This was common knowledge to JOHNNY CARSON, (I capitalize his name because he’s the king) which is why he didn’t want Leno to take over his job.

ABC, CBS, NBC are all programming crap. Fox has Fringe and Glee… Everything else is cable and specialty channels & online distribution. The dinosaur age is coming to an end, quality content based programming like Justified, True Blood, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Californiacation & Stargate Universe are the future of Visual, time based media consumption, outside of video games. Why should anyone expect bean counters to care about talent and creativity? It’ all about numbers and demographics. If that’s how the casual viewer wants to assess late night, yup, Jay Leno is frickin’ Einstein and P.T. Barnum rolled into one.
