Bill Maher has signed a new two-year deal with HBO. As part of the pact, the network has renewed Real Time With Bill Maher for a ninth season. The 35-episode Season 9 will launch in early 2011. Real Time, now in its eighth season, was often referenced over the past couple of months in the context of Conan O’Brien’s post-NBC options. Like O’Brien, Maher left his network late-night talk show, ABC’s Politically Incorrect, in a publicized dustup and then made a successful transition to a weekly talk-show on HBO. After exploring different scenarios, O’Brien ultimately opted to stay in the daily talk-show business with a deal at TBS.

Hey may not be as grating (or as wrong) as Bill O’Reilly… but he’s certainly as SMUG.
Maher left ABC and shithead Jimmy Kimmel took his spot. Not quite the severity of Leno/Conan NBC fuck up, but let’s be honest – Maher is great and Kimmel is a disaster. ABC won’t own up to how bad Kimmel’s show and ratings are, but all you need to do is look at the numbers and laughable lack of buzz.
ABC’s loss was HBO’s gain. Whether or not you agree with Bill Maher’s viewpoint is immaterial. He’s one hilarious dude. Jimmy Kimmel isn’t even in the same league as Maher. Kimmel is better suited to short bits like the ones he did for Fox’s NFL pre-game show.
Besides, ABC has their nose so far up the FCC’s butt they’d cancel GMA if they thought it would keep them on the straight and narrow. Recall the religious right’s outrage following the airing of the Terrell Owens/Nicolette Sheridan pre-show bit for ABC’s Monday Night Football. ABC groveled, apologized and crawled back into the good graces of the FCC and the conservatives. Can’t remember the last time I watched anything on this brown-nosing network.

moron, he was responding to people who said the terrorists were cowards in the most superficial definition of the word. his point was that they were not afraid to die, which, frankly, is the opposite of cowardice. like any other american, left wing or right, like myself, like you, he despises the fiends who attacked on 9/11.
I could say many things I hate about Maher, but they’ve already been said. In my opinion, he has no class what so ever. I do respect his right to say what he does…thank God he lives in America…as much as he hates it.
