NCIS co-star David McCallum earlier tonight closed a deal to continue on the hit CBS crime
drama. He plays medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard. McCallum was one of four original cast members whose future on the show became uncertain over a salary dispute with producer CBS TV Studios. Still not signed for Season 8 are Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and Sean Murray who are yet to reach an agreement with the studio.

David McCallum is an absolute gentleman and a really fine actor. He is such a popular guy.
Glad to see the Man From Uncle still at it for fifty years I’ve watched and enjoyed his performances!
Good for him – I’ve been a fan since I was in utero. Just goes to show you that actors in their seventies – and beyond – are still relevant.
Michael Wheatherly’s character is no loss. He is arrogant, immature and not a reflection of the professionalism of true NCIS agents. His character needs to grow up and quit being a clown
Lou: If Michael Wheatherly’s character were to “grow up” and “quit being a clown” any lightness in a story line would be lost. The immaturity of DiNoso is necessary. It is the interaction between the characters that bring people back every week, especially DiNoso’s antics. If DiNoso isn’t there, they would invent another similar character in order to introduce a comedic element to something that otherwise would be very dark and heavy. ALL these characters are important to each story line.
Not to mention the fact that it seems he’s already dropped a lot of his immaturity. Seems like after Dir. Shepard offered him his own team, the writers decided that an immature skirt chasing team leader would be a hard sell, but that’s just my opinion.
plus Tony is so full of trivia with movies i love that part of him and it will be a great loss if he goes!!!
Di Noso can never “grow up”. People like Tony never do. That is the double-edged sword. His character’s immaturity is maddening, and charming and wierd, but he thinks he’s normal and reaches no further. Luckily he is spot on when he does get down to work!
If the show was too rigid it would not be as popular as it is… They have the correct mix in the six main characters… Any change would jeopardize the success of the show..
NCIS is wonderful just the way it is. Michael Wheatherly’s character has just enough sensitivity to be real. NCIS is entertainment… it isn’t real!!! The relationships and banter between the characters is why we keep watching series after series.
I can’t believe you said that! You remember in Season 4 I think it was, Tony took over the team and ran it almost as well as Gibbs. He even gained some respect for McGee, calling him Tim. If they were to lose Tony I’d be devastated, as much as I would be if they lost Pauley Perette and I love her. Plus, if Tony were to grow up, the whole comedic sense of the show would be lost. He is the one that comes into work and says something stupid that chases him throughout the whole show. Tony would be a loss.
go to hell!
the whole cast is great that is what makes them good there is a little of everything for everyone. they are a family!
I agree with Jeremy. McCallum is simply the best. Cast and crew adore him. As for the others, while Pauley is at times fun to watch, she’s kind of one note and seven seasons of her is probably enough. Weatherly is no big loss and Sean Murray is lucky to be there at all. Good to be a relative! Interesting that David chose to settle his deal solo. Guess he must agree.
First off, the reason Sean Murray got the job really had nothing to do with him being related to Don Bellisario. He read for the part of McGee just like everyone else read for their part – and Shane Brennan did the casting.
Sean Murray is a seriously talented actor, and he has filled the character of McGee to a “T”. I would stop watching if they killed off McGee because he is the main reason I tune in each week.
You’re totally wrong. Don Bellisario cast all the major roles in the show and developed the characters long before he hired Shane Brennan. Shane Brennan didn’t even join the staff until the second half of the fifth season, and then as an episodic writer. The first person cast under Brennan watch was “Leon” the director who took over after Jenny Shepard.
I do agree that Sean Murray is very talented, though!
You are certainly entitled to your opinion however you remind me of someone at my place of work who objected to giving out Christmas Trees at Christmas and ruined it making sure that nobody got one.
FACINATING how so many “fans” are so concerned with the pay schedule of their “favorite” show and yet voice no concern for the mindless, childish, simplistic mess the show became around Christmas time when all plot lines developed over the last two years were summarily dropped— never to be explained. Beginning with NCIS’s “holiday” episode— wherein a legendary Marine officer who became a Christian pastor arranges to have his Muslim convert son beaten and is killed whilst bowing to Mecca ( MERRY CHRISTMAS, AMERICA!!! )— all the plots that we had been following such as: Who Director Vance really is?; What really happened to the Israeli commando unit in the desert where Ziva was captured— what was her Mossad daddy really up to and who is the child in the photo with little Ziva and her father from childhood which was taken from her D.C. apartment before it was torched?? Also, after vowing for many seasons that the Star of David around her neck was important to her why did she throw it away and has never worn it since???; What exactly did the Secretary of the Navy tell Gibbs and just what is he supposed to keep an eye on Vance about???? What did Vance destroy from his file upon taking the job, what did prior Director Sheppard remove from that file and hide and what is in that file that the CIA gave to Gibbs??????; Who from within NCIS texted the Korean-American agent who turned out to be a plant asking if they “knew” about him???????, etc., etc., etc.
Perhaps the fans should care a bit less about $$$ and more about the terrible writing and disregard for the intelligence and loyalty of the viewers!!!
Some of your questions HAVE been answered….in previous seasons/episodes…..
“who is the child in the photo with little Ziva and her father from childhood which was taken from her D.C. apartment before it was torched??” Her sister Tali that was killed when she was younger….this was revealed in Ziva’s first episode on NCIS, I believe? Oh and it’s not her father in the picture it’s Ari, her half-brother….that picture was shown before.
“Also, after vowing for many seasons that the Star of David around her neck was important to her why did she throw it away and has never worn it since???” Um….Saleem (the terrorist at the end of season 6/beginning of season 7) tore the necklace off of her neck and then threw it on the floor. She IS wearing a new Star of David necklace….dunno where it came from.
What exactly did the Secretary of the Navy tell Gibbs and just what is he supposed to keep an eye on Vance about???? (In what episode did this happen?)
“Who from within NCIS texted the Korean-American agent who turned out to be a plant asking if they “knew” about him???????” It was no one from NCIS, it was the former NSA guy….
anyhow….I’m glad they’ve got David McCallum signed up and hope that the other 3 sign on soon.
There’s an old saying……..Always keep them guessing! That’s what keeps the mystery alive. Yes, those questions have also entered my mind, but I’m not going to lose sleep over them.
I do agree Tony brings a comedic element but I think they need to have him tone it done a bit. Tony is too much sometimes with the jokes and immature behavior.
Odd!! No body screamed as loud againts the Gen-X clap trap from that BS Friends show as they are screaming about the NCIS money negotiations for the last three actors. They have earned their money. It never changes, James Garner had to sue the producers to get what money was promised him by contract. NCIS is a hit show inspite of the cry of foul from those who don’t watch the show (seems to be a lot of those people out there)and the money needs to go to those who have made it such, writers, Actors, and even a bump needs to go to the crew. You nay sayers need to just shut-up, turn off your t.v. sets and soak your heads. And to the producers…pay up and spread the money around a little. You can be replaced as well.
Can’t wait to see what is written in response to this…you go guys and gals.
Stazi
The squeaky wheel gets the grease…..however it sometimes gets changed too.
You can have your own opinions, but you can not have your own facts! WE ARE NOT BLIND.
Ziva is NOT wearing a Star of David any longer — check out any recent episode. Since the purge of Bellisario the children who now run and write the show have shown an anti- Israel/ pro Muslim bent. (check out the wonderful “Christmas/Holiday” episode. Enough said.) Seems CBS must have given the producers the word to tone done the pro-Israel sentiment— how else do you explain “Christmas” episode ; the neutering of Ziva, sans Star of David, and the dropping of the entire Mossad/Israeli storyline built up over several years???
The “photograph” of Ziva, her Mossad dad and someone else— taken from the apartment, PUPOSEFULLY, before it was torched, LAST SEASON, and a copy of which was shown on the father’s desk
as well, has NEVER BEEN EXPLAINED.
The Korean/American agent who was shown to be a plant is in the elevator leaving the HQ when she recieves the text asking if GIBBS “knows”……..—- just watch the episode. NEVER explained.
I guess some of the “fans” misssed the major plot point which has summarily been dropped— WHO IS VANCE, really. One entire episode devoted to the Sec of the Navy doubting him and telling Gibbs to keep watch– plus the “file” which was given to Gibbs by the CIA and has had certain pages removed over several seasons!!!
Perhaps too many of the “fans” are dumb as well as blind.
The joke around Hollywood is “How many producers does it take to screw up NCIS?” Answer: 30 more than it takes Polacks to screw in a light builb.”
Count the number of NCIS producers who have deadened the show since Christmas— Tony now a complete moron; Ziva with less lines per episode than the muscle-man Willy character during “mission Impossible” years; Gibbs adrift, lusting after any half-pint broad— including a PROSTITUTE!!!; Ducky phoning it in, when he gets through that is; Abby a drudge and a scold; and McGee loosing weight as his entire reason for being!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NCIS “jumped the shark” at Christmas– tossed the GREAT Bellisario and his team and now gives the word stupid new meaning. Worry less about salary and more about quality.
I just watched last week’s episode on cbs.com, since I missed seeing it on Tuesday night; and I noticed that Ziva is wearing a gold Star of David necklace.
You aren’t the only one who has noticed, though they tossed Bellisario a few years back. I don’t know if I’ve ever thought about it as anti-Israeli, but you’re correct about everything else. Even on the NCIS list on yahoo, fans have been censored when they complained about what seems like an attempt to wreck the series, by Shane Brennan, who wants to focus on his loser spin off. They certainly have been using newish writers who have reduced the characters to mere caricatures of their former selves.
Loser spin off is right. Drop the piece of crap, concentrate on the quality of the original series, keep the same cast and pay them they’re worth it,less make up on Gibbs he’s starting to look like Tammy Faye Baker or Bozo the Clown, stop the homo writers from killing off and or torturing all the women of the cast. Talk about woman haters. Just because they like smoking pole is no need to kill off or peril all the good looking women: Kate, Director Shepard, Agent Lee, Ziva framed and tortured, Abby put in peril. Go back and write for that Brown eye for the queer guy show. and McGee you hardly carry the show and will not harm viewer ratings if you go. Be thankful Uncle got you the job and if you are smart take what they give you. You just aren’t that entertaining and getting another job somewhere that your relatives don’t own or produce might prove very difficult.
Just cause the women have been the ones being killed off doesn’t mean the writers are homosexual! This is what I say, if you’re gonna diss the show SHUT UP AND DON’T WATCH IT! The rest of us like it and I think the changes that have taken place over the seasons are for the better. The character changes are perfectly fine and if anyone hadn’t noticed, the time space from episode to episode in the show is about a week, so just because Tony has a new girlfriend every other episode, or Gibbs happens to be attracted to a marine’s widow one episode and a lawyer the next does not mean that they are lusting after every broad. Again, if you’re gonna diss the show, don’t watch it, and don’t call someone gay to be insulting, if they are, that’s good for them and there’s nothing wrong with that. If they’re not, that’s fine to. That was TOTALLY rude and extremely offensive.
I believe the young man in the picture is Ziva’s dead lover Michael. Tony killed him in the struggle in her apartment.
According to what somebody told me that when they went to Fanfest. The producers said that in the picture was Ziva, Tali, & Ari.
Ziva is wearing a Star of David and has been wearing it since the beginning of the second part of the season 7.
Talk about someone who woke up one the wrong side of the bed as well as deaf, dumb and blind. All of the information is in the episodes if you listen and watch. If you need it spoon fed to you try Sesame Street. I hear Bert and Ernie have a new detective skit they do. It’ll keep you guessing for years.
It’s a tv show not a comment on humanity. Stop Trying to make more if it.
You have the best ensemble cast on TV. I love each and every one of your characters. They all add a dimension to the show that makes it exciting and fun each week. My sister who is a shut-in watches the new shows and all the reruns, even though she may have seen them many times. We would be absolutely crushed if they all did not come back next year. I don’t understand people who are so critical of your creative writing and the people who bring us such great entertainment each week. You are the best show on TV. Get our kids all back and make us happy.
All of these characters have a place in the show – but – it is getting on, and the anti-israli, pro palestinian (islam) flavor is showing through! Enough that I am almost ready to let it all go. It is their show and they can do what they want, just as we can . . . I’ll miss the people, but not the changing flavor of the show.
The original NCIS scripts reflected elements of real-world news, and that made it a hit show.
In the real world, however, the Mossad has infiltrated the US government and corrupted our Congress in addition to stealing our military secrets, resulting in losses to US taxpayers of many billions of dollars. Most Mossad spies are simply caught and released, as shown on NCIS. A few spies, such as Pollard, have been caught and imprisoned, but the majority of them remain hidden within our government.
Ziva’s purpose, in the real world, would be to keep the Mossad informed of official investigations, particularly investigations related to other Mossad agents as one NCIS episode portrayed.
The point is, as long as NCIS “keeps it real”, it will keep its audience. If it becomes a parody of Bond movies (as NCIS-L.A. has unfortunately done), it probably will not interest many viewers.
Nobody could make up the crazy news we read every day in America – a government gone mad with power preparing to fine and throw Americans into jail for not buying “health” insurance, the few Congressmen who speak out against federal oppression are sent to prison on fake charges, unconstitutional “laws” approving indefinite detention of American citizens, unconstitutional domestic wiretaps, pointless foreign occupations, an America that nearly bankrupts itself supporting failed banks in Europe and nearly a thousand military bases around the world.
Great scripts are in the news all the time. How about an NCIS script about why VP Cheney had NORAD transfer control of USAF intercepters to him on 9/11, or why WTC building 7 collapsed without being hit by aircraft, fire, or debris, or why a majority of 9/11 commissioners said their report was a coverup?
Keep NCIS real – with real-world scenarios – and the audience will grow. As the network is making tons of money from advertising on this show, spread some money around to the cast and crew. Their pay should reflect their skills and the show’s success. The audience loves them.
Whoa–reading some of these comments, shows that people have the right to be stupid, but some abuse that privilege. Heads up, wackos! Reality Check! NCIS is a television show–which means, scripted drama, which means fiction. None of these characters are breathing people–so, when certain people start blathering about not wearing certain jewelry to evil anti-plots to keeping NCIS “real”. Uhh, what part of “fiction” screams real to you?
I’m glad David McCallum is still among the cast–and I hope the others follow. (But honestly, after reading some of these comments–close your set and post some guards the crazies are approaching the gates.)
IS CBS OUT OF THEIR MIND, THEY BETTER SIGN THEM ALL. It is the best show on TV. The cast is pure magic, a drama with a little bit of comedy. It does not get any better than that.
Most of these comments are crazy. I say too, sign them all up, they are what makes the show fun. I must say I don’t buy the storyline that Ziva was sent her to kill Ari by their father.
Er, I was about to say: TV shows – as opposed to ‘news’ = Entertainment = NOT the ‘real world’ but Andy [May 2] said it better. I cite West Wing as a show that kept close to ‘reality’ but was waaay more entertaining. Who didn’t want to see that team in the White House?
I hope they all [NCIS actors] return. We need Tony. I did originally scream nepotism when Sean Murray first appeared but I think he has more than proven his worth. There was an earlier tendency to focus on an individual character for a set of episodes – Ziva’s family & lovelife, Tony and the Frog’s daughter, Abby and the vertically challenged chap – which I think could be usefully revived, Ducky, Abby & McGee particularly. Gibbs has been pretty much done to death – sad past, previous partner, sniping skills, dad, mothers-in-law etc. – and I’d much rather see him in bed with his female counterpart from ‘Jurisdiction’ than that weasel-shaped attorney:) Finally, I agree with djt [is that a cute American version of the evocative Irish 'eejit'?] about Director Vance. We were promised so much more. Oh, and the terrorist mob? Saleem & co? That were torturing OUR people? Gibbs killed ‘em all! Because he could!:)
Come On Guys
I know there has to be some kind of drama to keep us guessing but please this show is the best out there.
Give the actors what they want, they happen to be the #1 show around, where would the show be without Abby,Mcgee,Denoso? We want them around and that’s how you’ll stay high in the ratings.Hope it work’s out for the best.
NCIS would not be the same without Tony ,Mcgee and Abbie. Give them what they want the viewing figures must say it all.
I didn’t realise that there was a ‘comment’ page like this and enjoyed reading the comments. I just wanted to find out when the next series would be starting as we have become addicts since discovering it by chance 2/3 months ago. So, I would just like to add my thoughts.I agree with the comments regarding DeNoso, I think he overplays the part and can be quite annoying and would be someone I would avoid like the plague, BUT he is an integral part of the show. I think Gibbs, Abbie and Ducky are the mainstay of the show and I would be devastated if any of them were to go. I had no idea that McGee was related to the producer until I read these comments, but think that he is just the balance that is needed against DeNoso and very quietly puts him in his place from time to time, so whoever his relatives are is immaterial. He plays the role. As for the ladies of the show, I was really upset when Kate was shot but think that Ziva managed to replace her – eventually. I never did understand the Israeli connection – is she/isn’t she some sort of double agent and if I remember rightly she was brought in by Director Jenny Sheppard and more or less dumped into the team, but think she is an acceptable part of the team now. I really love the Abbie character and would hate to see her go, but do wish that sometimes she would speak a little slower! AJC/UK
If any of the actors of NCIS do not return, I for one will no longer watch the show. I don’t think I will be the only person not returning as a viewer.
JC
Sean Murray is TOO THIN. It is hard to watch him on the show. His collars hang around his neck. Even his voice sounds different. I’m not sure what is going on with him, but I hope he isn’t sick. Gain some weight back!
Regarding who the other child was in the picture with Ziva and her father: could it be her half-brother she had to kill to save Gibbs’ life?
Regarding Sean Murray’s weight : I agree that he looks ill. As a nurse, and as a fan of other stars who have lost weight to this extent, I’m wondering if he has A.I.D.S. It would break my heart to lose Timmy!
Regarding the new writers or producers, whoever made the changes: the changes are not good. Being anti-Christian and anti-Jew is a sure way to lose a lot of long-time viewers of the show who have enjoyed it since it came on. Starring characters are not as interesting as they were.
absolutely love gibbs mark harmon is the best
Please tell McGee to gain some weight back! Tell Tony to leave him alone, stop picking on him!!
He said in a Tweet that he was going on a no sugar/ no alcohol diet. Personally, I think he looks better skinny and I am glad he’s going healthy. I’ll admit, he looks a little skinnier than he should, but props to him for losing weight. Good luck, Timmy, glad you’re not sick.
WHY IS THE CHARACTER MCGEE LOSING WEIGHT—HE LOOKED SO MUCH BETTER
IN PREVIOUS EPISODES?
How coulD U have NCIS without the intelligent gentlemanly Dr. Mallard? He is the Heart of NCis
