EXCLUSIVE: 30 Rock executive producer/co-showrunner Robert Carlock is staying on at the famous jow-carlock-largeNew York address. Carlock has inked a new rich multi-year overall deal with Universal Media Studios, which produces the Emmy-winning NBC comedy with Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video and Tina Fey’s Little Stranger. His focus under the new pact will continue to be on 30 Rock.

Carlock has been at NBC for 14 years. He started off as a writer on Saturday Night Live where he worked with 30 Rock creator Fey, the first woman to become head writer at the venerable late-night sketch comedy. Carlock left SNL in 2001 to segue into primetime comedy series with stints on NBC’s hit Friends and its spinoff Joey. In 2006, when Joey was ending its run, Fey invited Carlock to join her on her new series 30 Rock. “When Tina sent me her pilot over four years ago, I never thought I’d be lucky enough to work with her for this long,” Carlock said. “I’m very fortunate to have people like Angela (Bromstad) and Jeff (Gaspin) suppporting me. Also, I love GE and/or Comcast.”

WME-repped Carlock has shared three best comedy series Emmy Awards with Fey and the rest of the show’s producing team. He also has earned three Emmy writing nominations for his work on the show. “Robert is Tina’s right arm and the soul of that brilliant writers room,” NBC and UMS’ EVP comedy programming Jeff Ingold said. “From SNL to Friends to 30 Rock, he is one of the great voices of NBC comedy.”

Carlock’s path to TV started the way it has for many successful comedy writers, as the editor of the Harvard Lampoon. His first TV writing job was on ABC’s The Dana Carvey Show, which led to the gig on SNL.
