Writer/director Adam McKay has just twittered that the studio turned down a proposal for a sequel to the comedy, even after McKay had confirmed that Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd would take paycuts. Plans had been underway to start production in February.
Here is McKay’s Twitter: “So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.”

This is such a shock. The first movie really is Will Ferrell’s best. Very funny. And still quotable. Aside from Star Trek 2, Paramount doesn’t have anything interesting officially in the development pipeline for the next few years. I imagine they’ll have Iron Man 3, which is a good thing. But yeah, I really wish they’d stop making those really bad Transformers/GI Joe-type of craptaculars. What’s going on over there?
You stay CLASSY Paramount!
Looks like another suit will be shown the door at Paramount, now that their stupid decision has become public. Dumb and dumber at the Peak.
Ya think maybe someone’s still punishing Spielberg?
Better him than me!
Hello?!! Adam!! Take the project over to New Line!! They’ll do it!!! Ring-a-ring-ring!
Really? This thing needs a sequel? It was funny is spots, sure, but can’t we all just watch it again? Doesn’t need to be done again.
It’s a shame. Anchorman is a classic! I want more!
You must be joking. I know its a late comment but seriously? I love Anchorman, even though its old i re watch it and me and my friends always talk about it. This is pathetic. They have just spoiled a really good movie.
