Fox’ Idol Gives Back ruled Wednesday night. The 2+ hour charity special/Idol result show drew a 5.7 rating/16 among adults 18-49 and 18.4 million viewers overall. That is 16% down in the demo from the most recent Idol Gives Back in 2008 but up 3% in total viewers. (Fox expects the numbers to rise in the final Nielsens).
The other networks stayed mostly out of the way with repeats. Only 3 bubble shows aired originals in the 8-9 PM hour on the Big Four nets, all hitting series low in the 18-49 demo: CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine (1.5/5) and Accidentally On Purpose (1.6/5) and NBC’s Mercy (1.2/4) . The CW’s America’s Next Top Model was up from last week and finished 2nd to Idol in adults 18-34.

I really don’t understand why these networks chose to air original episodes against Idol Gives Back – Old Christine is in repeats for the next two weeks; why CBS didn’t interchange one of those repeats and last night’s (excellent) episode is beyond me!
“Idol” is becoming worst produced show ever. Do these people own a clock? There is no reason for the show to always run over, but it does and last night was the worst yet. They went 20 minutes over the allotted two hours and then had to hurry to kick Tim off the show. It was disrespectful to Tim (but then what else is new) and it makes the show look amateurish and disorganized.
I would never give a dollar to a charity run by these people.
I could not have said it better myself. Spot on comment.
Yep, it went 25 minutes late actually, and the show was boring as hell. Didn’t need half of the crap performances they were showing. A lot of the Africa videos were good, but other than that…meh.
Even though AI viewership is down, they still ruled the ratings. All for a good cause.
Idol Gives Back is a good cause. Idol is slipping this year because the contestants are the most boring group in the show’s history. None in the top 12 have star quality in my opinion. A stark contrast to last year’s top 12 and especially the four finalists 2009.
