While the website Hitfix reported today that Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman was the clear first choice and “almost 100% locked” into becoming the next Peter Parker in the rebirth of the Spider-Man franchise, insiders at Sony say that the young actor is not getting the role. In fact, these sources were very definitive in denying the story, and were sure that Lerman was 100% not going to be Spidey and that he is not on the list of candidates being seriously considered. for the new film that will be directed by (500) Days of Summer helmer Marc Webb. On the other hand, Drew McWeeny is often right about stuff–he was first to accurately note that Fox was eyeing other directors for the X-Men: First Class spinoff film because Bryan Singer had committed to direct Jack The Giant Killer.

Interesting. they also said that spider-man 4 was on “holiday hiatus” last December.
how unforunate… he is such an excellent actor with powerful range, and a nice kid, too.
Ah well
(
Johnny Simmons is the clear front runner. He’s the only young American who can actually act and still look like he’s in high school. Mark my words, it’s Johnny Simmons.
Just get Justin Bieber
Good. Seriously. How “incestuous” is the industry that the kid from the PERCY JACKSON franchise is suddenly the hot pick for the new SPIDER-MAN franchise. Is there NOBODY else out there? Do casting directors still work for a living? Go and find someone NEW for crying out loud.
Amen!!
Yawn… is there really that much interest in this casting?
Sad when a once storied franchise has come to this.
Remember when Hitfix reported that Bradley Cooper was “totally almost 100%” about to be cast as Green Lantern. That didn’t happen.
I’m for Johnny Simmons.
The Harry Potter guy should be spidey.
Such a relief.
I loves logan, but I don’t want a spidey reboot
It’s good idea in theory, because Peter Parker IS supposed to just be a kid.
But if they’re doing a re-boot, they’re going to have to wait at least a decade.
Eh, I kinda liked the idea of him as Peter Parker.
They’re idiots. Logan would be perfect and if they don’t realize how great he’d be it shows just how screwed up they are. They should have gone ahead with Tobey but without Raimi, Ratner would’ve done an ok job and he’s always eager to please. I hope this reboot kills the franchise for them they don’t deserve to own Spider-Man they don’t know what to do with it nor do they understand what the audience wants. We don’t want to see another origin story we already saw it done to perfection in 2002. Nobody wants to see Peter Parker in high school again. Screw Sony they’re already trying to wreck Ghostbusters by trying to get rid of Reitman and here’s another pefect example of just how inept they really are.
I can’t wait for Spiderboy to hit theaters.
Mark my words: For all the nerds who pissed and moaned abut SPIDERMAN 3, when you see this new franchise which will look like something the CARTOON NETWORK made, you’ll learn to appreciate SPIDERMAN 3 Much more, flaws and all cause the thought of rebooting a successful franchise like what we had is absurd and this will come to haunt SONY in the end when people say fuck this and they will.. There were so many future storylines they could’ve went with and hell: We never even got to see Mary Jane Watson marry Peter Parker for crying out loud!!! So many villains shot down the toilet in favor of ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN, CARTOON NETWORK Style..
Silly Crybaby Dancing Spidey 3 was a mess and pathetic. I doubt Sony can ever top that one again. Period
Johnny Simmons? Ok, did ANYONE see Jennifer’s Body?
Well don’t.
Unless he’s got a scheduling conflict he can’t get out of, or he’s already turned the role down, he should be on the list.
Sony, do the american people a favor. Forget a lame ass reboot. Just keep the franchise as it is. Going back to high school is the worst thing you can do with the spiderman franchise. Just bring in The Lizard and Kraven The Hunter as villains and The Black Cat as spidey’s backup and you have a bonafide boxoffice smash!!! Think about it!!!!
Chris Massoglia!!
Lorgan Lerman would be the perfect pick for Peter Parker. He looks the part, is the right age, and of course has the talent to pull off this role. I am seriously disappointed in Sony if this report is indeed true and they have overlooked the talent of Lerman.
Thanx God. I really really LOVE’S it, when Sony denies Logan to be Spidey. Because I never hope he will be Spidey. But I hope he will play more of Percy Jackson’s Sequels.
Logan Lerman wouldd make an absolutely perfect Spiderman which probably means he wont be and we will get someone totally unsuitable.
I’m glad he’s not getting the role. He’s got a really arrogant personality, judging from how much he praised himself and talked down other actors during the Percy Jackson publicity. They need someone they can work with who’s not going to let it go to his head, not a diva.
i like the idea of Lerman as Parker. Yelchin obviously can’t do it anymore as he’s doing this Fright Night remake (why, god only knows?), Simmons–did anyone see Jennifer’s Body??!!!, Emile Hirsch just signed for Darkest Hour.
Is this just an elaborate casting drama thing? Sony has the worst track record when it comes to news about their projects. They denied SM4 was in trouble and then did a 360 only a few weeks later. Lerman may still have a shot though if I were him, i’d seriously consider other projects
yelchin would be a pretty good idea. why couldn’t sony wait. it’s not like they’ve even got a script yet. he’d given a bit a juice for worldwide marketing since he’s already known from star trek and the last terminator movie.
They’d be crazy if they didn’t go with Lerman. He has so much charisma you can’t take your eyes off of him. See 3:10 to Yuma and you will agree. Also, he is actually 18, as opposed to some of the early 20′s names floating around.
I think this denial by Sony is publicity to keep talk going and Logan is in serious consideration for if not already Spider-Man.
I can tell you with all certainty, having seen the list, Logan is not on it. Neither is Aaron Johnson, Jamie Bell, or Andy Garfield.
