While the website Hitfix reported today that Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman was the clear first choice and “almost 100% locked” into becoming the next Peter Parker in the rebirth of the Spider-Man franchise, insiders at Sony say that the young actor is not getting the role. In fact, these sources were very definitive in denying the story, and were sure that Lerman was 100% not going to be Spidey and that he is not on the list of candidates being seriously considered. for the new film that will be directed by (500) Days of Summer helmer Marc Webb. On the other hand, Drew McWeeny is often right about stuff–he was first to accurately note that Fox was eyeing other directors for the X-Men: First Class spinoff film because Bryan Singer had committed to direct Jack The Giant Killer.

RYAN KELLEY!!! Perfect Peter Parker look, extremely talented yet mostly under the radar young actor. Amazing opposite Sigourney Weaver in “Prayers for Bobby”, won an Independent Spirit Award for “Mean Creek” and did the animated super hero thing quite effectively as Ben in “Ben 10: Alien Swarm”. He is who I keep picturing and seems to fit all the rumored criteria. If casting actually does their job, this guy should be very high on any list.
Everyone at Sony are a bunch of idiots. They should just make the spiderman 4 giving Raimi as much time as he needs and forget about this stupid idea of starting over. If they can’t go back to spiderman 4 please don’t remake it until at least ten years from now.
How is Ken Baumann not already cast? Have you seen this guy on “Secret Life of the American Teen”? He basically is Peter Parker, just waiting to get bitten by a spider. If he’s not on the list, get him on it and fast!
was on board with a Lerman casting. Kid has acting range to pull off the role just don’t reference PJO as it was a mediocre kid’s movie which wasn’t true to the series’ spirit. Earlier work like 310 to yuma, my one and only,jack & bobby, meet bill shows he could do comedy, drama and action. he’s the right age and is not young hllywood like Zefron etc.
sony statements i always take with a grain of salt, same with agents. wouldn’t be too surprised if it all comes back to lerman a few weeks from now.

Logan has potential to be an even better peter parker than maguire. Did sony vet this properly and do they visit sites like superherohype or comic book movies where he’s the fans top choice over yelchin, aaron johnson, angarano, hirsch and Zac Efron? so back to the drawing board unless this casting drama is all just being dragged out
Sony better reconsider your “definitive” position on the Lerman casting, the kid starting to get a following and while Percy wasn’t a great movie by any stretch, Lerman has onscreen charisma and likeability. He could be a good Spiderman/Peter Parker. Is the production team on board on this or is it just the suits talking again?
agree with you, he’s tops in the fan polls for the SM reboot but like someone said, that’s why he probably won’t get the part, look at the chris evans casting
It should be Lerman. Most fansites have him as their overwhelming favorite. Would love to see this list that people are talking about.

now the new name is Josh Hutcherson. Not really new as he’s also on those comic book fan casting polls where he can’t even generate votes in the double-digits while Lerman is a top choice at 40% and getting more votes after the Sony denial.
Josh is an ok teen actor in Terabithia, the awful Journey to the Center of the Earth and even more terrible Cirque de Freak but he plays troubled teens and doesn’t strike me as someone who can be a good nerd onscreen. And parker is supposed to be even a near genius esp in the ultimate universe.
Sony, just reconsider Lerman or someone like Yelchin.
Hutcherson getting negative vibes in fan posts like comic vine. nothing special about him and for some reason, he doesn’t come across as a having charisma. Maybe because his roles are mostly as bullies or crybabies like in Cirque du Freak. He’s also a tad short to play Parker though he could be Flash or Eddie Brock if he were taller
