UPDATE: Here is a statement from Matt and Trey:
“In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it.”
PREVIOUS: South Park creators defied death threats from a radical Muslim group by continuing their Prophet Muhammad-themed storyline. But the network, wisely, took precaution by censoring Muhammad’s image and name. It’s not clear if that would appease the New York-based group Revolution Muslim, which posted a message on its website after last week’s 200th episode claiming that producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone had insulted their prophet by briefly showing him in a bear costume (any physical representation of the prophet is considered blasphemous by Islam) and threatening that they will “probably wind up like [Dutch filmmaker] Theo Van Gogh” who was murdered by Muslim extremists. Last night, the Muhammad character’s face was covered by a black box and the mention of his name was bleeped.
Comedy Central did confirm that they asked Parker and Stone not to show Prophet Muhammad and that they added additional bleeps in the episode after it was delivered. The network wouldn’t comment whether security for Parker and Stone had been beefed up in light of the threats, or whether last night’s episode will ever be repeated. As of now, it’s still not available online.
Parker and Stone have built a brand of crossing all kinds of lines and being equal offenders to celebrities, politicians and religious leaders. But the Muhammad incident does raise the question about the limits of artistic freedom and free speech when it comes to religious content and simple self-preservation. Did they go too far?
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

The point they were making, especially by having Buddha do lines of coke, is that the only reason you can’t portray Muhammad is because Muslims will try to kill you. And they are absolutely correct.
Take all the “brave” Hollywood types who make all their “brave” comments when they take on conservatives or Christians or “corporations” and then congratulate themselves. You aren’t brave. These guys are.
Bravo, this is exactly how I feel.
Show ‘em how it’s done Trey and Matt!
V
“Wisely” my ass.
Among the entire worldwide media industry, Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to be the only voice of reason taking a stand for free speech in the face of violent fundamentalism.
I agree. Wisely, Nellie, really? It’s apparent that Nellie here takes for granted the very free speech that allows her to blog her opinions, however misguided they are.
I’ll reiterate the point made by South Park’s 2006 Muhammad episode, “Either it’s all okay or none of it is,” and I loathe the day when none of it is and thanks to Viacom, that day may come sooner than later.
By the way, Muhammad, Muhammad, MUHAMMAD! Well, still standing.
Not the only ones; the online comic strip “Jesus and Mo” has been running for quite some time now.
I agree with this, Muslims it seems are almost untouchable because people are AFRAID.
Sure there are some fringe insane Christians, but in the last 50 years the only violence you see from them are some random abortion bombings which of course is horrible but there are a few nuts everywhere. The problem is widespread with a certain “religion of peace”
It’s great to see so many people on this message board as angry as I am about the issue of censorship.
I encourage everyone to send a message to Comedy Central http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml and tell them to stand up for the 1st amendment and 2 of the best satirical writers in recent American history.
… And meanwhile, family guy still is a lame imitation. Kudos to Matt and Trey for everything they’ve done to make us laugh and to push boundaries and buttons.
Don’t generalize all muslims into that category because it’s not true. The issue comes from Islamic radical groups only.
No this is the teachings of islam. This isn’t a radical group. Its the ones that claim they aren’t violent that are outside the norm. I will quote the pope. “All islam has brought to religion is violence.” this is true to its core. In their homeland where islam is the primary teachings they opress their women. They beat their women for having a cup of coffee with a man in public. And they incite large scale violence any time their religion or their practices come into question. These people aren’t fighting for their religion. They are fighting for an excuse to enrage their masses aganst western culture.
The pope isn’t an authority on Islam or any other religion, he’s a narrowed minded twit who has only slowed down the retribution of victimized children and false scapegoats to the Catholic faith. If you had it his way you would also be crucifying homosexuals and stumping total equality.
Nowhere in the Qur’an does it justify such nonsensical violence. The threats were made by radicals and that is all. Whether it is the IRA, the KKK or Hutu extremists, you cannot allow these people to represent the nation as a whole. That is close minded and openly ignorant.
Muslism are a hospitable and kind people by tradition, you cannot underline the wars in their countries as a demonstration of their religion it is purely about Political unrest.
Trey Parker & Matt Stone weren’t attacking their religion, they were attacking the extremists. Why are so many Americans so prepared to attack these people when Christianity has more than its share of blood shed to apologize for?
Thank you so much i couldn’t have said it better
Even Mecca wouldn’t fall for Mohammed’s new religion until he threatened to destroy it and everyone in it. This is how that message of peace has been spread from the beginning.
I don’t think you are understanding it. I believe you are right in your assertion that these crazy extremists do not paint a picture of the whole Muslim community, as I would assume most level-headed people would. I think what everyone is getting at is there does not seem to be any other religion that produces such extreme-leaning followers en masse. That while others who are devout in their religion can take criticism or satire of it by ignoring or disagreeing, there is a much larger faction of that religion that doesn’t practice tolerance and jumps to murder and mayhem. This is obviously just a veiled attempt at legitimizing murder based on Western hatred in the name of religion. What is annoying is when people say “Hey we aren’t all like that, the majority of us don’t agree with those crazies”, which is obviously true, yet there doesn’t seem to be much of a fight being put up by that “majority” against those extremists giving them a bad name. Until your “majority” fights back along with the rest of us, this will perpetuate ad infinitum.
Now don’t go redirecting the focus here, which isn’t the generally violent disposition of Islam or historical Christianity. It’s about the fact that the KORAN simply labels any others that follow a differing religion or credo as “INFIDELS”. As such, that book of ‘faith’ advocates elimination by any means of said infidels. The issue is not Christianity’s history of likely being the bloodiest cause in conscious human history, granted it may be. The issue is the vehement attacks of both physical & verbal violence that MOSLIMS condone, either by action or by lack of action. Nowhere can it be seen that ANY follower of the ‘prophet’ MOHAMMED has publicly and steadfastedly opposed the obvious violence perpetrated in the name of that religion/’holy’ figure or even as much as lifted an ounce of effort to rid said “religion of peace” of such “extremists”, which there are millions.
The point that you are trying to refute is that MOSLIMS physically & verbally abuse their women & continue to engage in acts of domestic homicide/etc. in an age where basic human rights are realized or engaged in efforts to be realized in every single nation on this planet…except for those nations HIJACKED BY THE FOLLOWERS OF MOHAMMED, PROPHET OF MOSLIMS – AND ADVOCATE FOR GENOCIDE.
Period.
What, pray-tell, is your defense for these despicable realities rampant in that ‘peaceful faith’? (Somehow I expect your logic to be this: kill all the dissenters & beat women into silence & submission. Then, peace will reign) *Chuckles thoroughly* As I view the hilarious picture of “MO”, the mighty ‘prophet’, on the Internet as I write this!)
Do you personally know the Pope? No, then your remarks are just plain stupid. The protestant church is responsible for more bloodshed than the Catholic church by far. And secular society has sexually abused children at a rate at least 5 times higher than the Catholic Church. Does this excuse sexual abuse of children in the Catholic Church? NO! Jesus said scandals would come, but whoa to the person(s)through whom they come. The guilty persons should be punished here and later by God. Islam is about bloodshed. It always has been. Since the 7th century Islam has been responsible for more bloodshed than anything else in the history of the world. Islam is a lie and a phony religion.
That ‘s not what the Quran is about any more than the Bible condoning young boys getting the high hard one from Father O’Mally!
Look, it’s all ridiculous anyway. If a cartoon incites you to killing, you’re an idiot! If you think killing a doctor that performs abortion is justified, you’re an idiot.
It takes all kinds to make an insane asylum.
In the Regensburg lecture to which you refer (9-12-06), Pope Benedict XVI was quoting 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaiologos, who said: “Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”
Well..it would seem quite strange that they point the finger at the muslim faith for spreading itself by the sword..
..crusades anyone?
I am in korea and I find it appalling that there are more churches than buddhist temples.
Seriously now, “dude”.
I have a lot of muslim friends and they think it is equally ridiculous.
It’s about time the blame stops being directed at the people that are seemingly the focal point of a continuing hate campaign (muslims) -for more wars (iran etc)
…and lets not for get that other one about 10 years ago..mixed opinions I know, but something fishy happened there, one way or another…still, as Matt and Trey pointed out, we may never know exactly what happened on 911. All I know is, it aint how we have been told it Happened. (IF ANYTHING – look at the pilot episode of “the lone gunmen” x-files spin-off, and then at the date it was produced and aired..and subsequently cancelled)
Aaanyways, If there is any condolence, I thought the episode was great..anyone with half a brain got the point (although the speech would have been nice)…and the over the top bleeping drove th epoint in so deep…it was still a success…if not artistically, it still made its point.
23A dude, 23-A
keep on trucking…
FU THIS ISN’T TRUE
Well things would be helped a great deal if the non-radical Muslim clerics would speak out strongly and regularly against the violent nutters in their religion. But they don’t. Silence = approval.
When a McVeigh commits a terrorist act, Christians everywhere decry it as totally contrary to their faith. But when a Muslim terrorist acts, many Muslims express agreement while we hear very little disagreement from the “peaceful” Muslims. And that, sadly, tends to incriminate all Muslims. If they really objected they would find countless friendly press outlets to air their outrage, yet don’t.
Not all Muslims are terrorists BUT all terrorists are Muslim. Kinda creepy.
Someone is going to mention McVeigh or the IRA so let me rephrase: “Not all Muslims are terrorists BUT all terrorists who kill in the name of Allah, or any other deity are Muslim.”
Well of course that’s true. But still, don’t they see that what they’re doing is downright annoying. South Park showed Buddha snorting crack and Jesus watching porn in that same episode. Being Catholic I was offended, but I’m not going to bomb Comedy Central considering they have made fun of everything known to man and the only thing immune to ridicule by them is Muhammed. Once it gets to a point when you have to do that much censoring and it’s still not ok something is terribly wrong. They bleeped out almost a whole minute long speech that was about courage and had nothing to do with Muhammed, AND THAT STILL WASN’T ENOUGH FOR THOSE !@#$%*s. Radicals are really pushing it overboard right now and I’m going to have each one of them put in place before they start violating AMERICA’S freedom of speech.
bullshit! yes there are many Muslims who are decent people, but it DESPITE their religion, not BECAUSE of it. Do a little research before you spout off. Islam is a religion that demands violence from its adherents! It calls for total war against any who do not accept Islam. It subjugates women to a position of slavery! Which is not an exaggeration, because under sharia, women are basically owned by men. It is a religion that teaches that it is alright to deceive and cheat and steal from any who are not Muslim. Pardon my language, but F**k the Islamic Religion! It should be wiped of the face of the Earth, and any who practice it should be expelled from our country! The first Amendment doesn’t apply, because these people are not just speaking unpopular views (what the 1st Amendment is designed to protect), these people are breaking the law by inciting violence!
You sound like a total idiot who doesn’t know how to read. Maybe you should have someone do some reading and research for you before you decide to use ridiculous language against any religion. Every religion is peaceful in their core teachings but there are people like you who make religions look and seem violent. It is a shame that someone like you is even allowed to express such arrogant opinions that do no good to anyone but spread hate among people.
VERY, VERY well put.
I’m amazed that Comedy Central will air an episode that says shit nonstop, but be afraid of this.
As Cartman would say, “Super weak”
What a travesty. Every soldier who has died in the service of this country would say, “What was the purpose of my early death. It was a total waste.” Sickening. By the way, how many Christian churches are in Saudi Arabia? Was that ZERO (#!%)? Is that what you said (I’m speaking to all Muslims now)? Your silence during this and so many similar incidents is deafening! We Must, Absolutely Must, begin publishing photos of Mohammed on a large scale basis! My religion is frequently ridiculed, what makes you so better. Oh, I forgot, I’m an Infidel. I know it is an old saying, but if mass publishing pictures of Mohammed so offends you, you are quite free to leave.
liverandonions – I’d love to know where you expect people to get photographs of Mohammed. The Prophet died more than a thousand years before the invention of photography. Any image of him would have to be purely imaginary, like an image of Jesus, Moses or the Buddha.
I wish Parker and Stone would release the “uncensored” version of this episode to YouTube. It would probably reach more people. At least, before YouTube took it down in response to the usual death threats.
Well said, Geoff, Well said.
They did not go too far. South Park makes fun of everyone so why should one group be offended when they have insulted so many others as well? Its not like Parker and Stone were singling them out.
Here they are making fun of ALL ideologies and you only have a problem because they’re referencing Muhammad?
What gives? Did you get this upset when they had Jesus running around like a super-hero? Apparently not…
Such a religion of peace
Not all Muslims are Terrorist, but all Terrorists are Muslim.
Fuck the Muslims!
Because shooting a doctor in his church, or bombing the Olympics in Atlanta, or bombing the Feds in Oklahoma City, or mailing bombs to people, isn’t terrorism.
Otherwise Scott Roeder, Eric Rudolph, Timothy McVeigh, and Ted Kaczynski would all have to be Muslim, right?
there is a difference between the lone nut who spends his time living in his moms basement jerking off and reading KKK web sites and an WORLD WIDE organized religion where the LEADERS of that religion who tell their followers to kill…name a religion that does that again please! How many abortion doctors have been killed in the last ten years…2….3 maybe…by single nut jobs.
how many people have been killed for depicting Muhammad of late? Van Gogh seems like the only one to make the news, so the protesting and threats aren’t that different than abortion doctors receive.
Again with the “moral equivalency” crap! I’m sick and tired of comments like this that try to compare and therefore mitigate radical Islam to acts of other religions (usually Christianity) that are at MOST anomalies.
Yes, the Church has sanctioned some terrible things in the past (as in DISTANT PAST…like, a THOUSAND years past) but as for our modern society, there is absolutely NO comparison between a few isolated nut jobs who claim to be Christians (and if you actually knew what Christianity stands for, then you would see just how intellectually lacking the argument is) and the psychos who carry out “jihad” or “fatwas”.
Simply put (I know! Here comes the “hateful” “bigoted” “hurtful” rhetoric!) Islam preaches hate and violence of other religions and peoples. And, unfortunately, a large segment of Islam embraces these concepts and they truly believe that they must act on them.
Before you or anyone tries to compare the body count between modern day Christianity and modern day Islam, check out “thereligionofpeace.com”. It breaks down the Koran and the actual texts that these wingnuts are following. And, more importantly, the site keeps a daily (that’s right…DAILY!) count of people from all over the world who are injured, maimed and butchered in the name of Allah and Muhammad!
I’m on the verge of vomiting over the gutless pandering of the political class and those who claim to “know what’s best” for the sake of “diversity”, political correctness or just plain cowardice. SCREW THEM and those NUTJOBS who THREATEN TO KILL AND ACTUALLY CARRY THE THREAT OUT just because THEIR FREAKING RELIGION WAS INSULTED!! SCREW THEM AND THEIR PATHETIC “prophet”!
Tell the people of Northern Ireland that all terrorists are Muslim, or the Spanish/French people dealing with Basque extremists. Don’t be so ignorant and insulting. Open up your eyes to the rest of the world before you make such brash comments.
People have every right to be insulted by this episode but of course any threats or violence which result are unacceptable. The South Park creators weren’t really mocking The Prophet. They’re making a statement about the reasons people don’t tackle this issue, which are for fear and not out of respect. Wouldn’t it be nicer if it was respect and understanding which made people treat Him with reverence? If you believe that this depiction is a grave sin then leave G-d to judge them, and just take comfort in yout own faith and convictions. Leading by example is always more powerful than fear.
you dont know shit about northern ireland, or the reasons why the troubles began.
Take the Fogleman Challenge. Everytime a Christian terrorist kills an innocent, I send you $100; everytime a Muslim terrorist kills an innocent, you send me $10. If you have the money, I can retire.
Really??!?!
I hope you have a lot of money…
unless, you dont count polluting the water supply, contaminating food, witholding life saving substances and dispensing substances that drag out the effects of ilness etc, as the patients need to continue taking them to try and survive, lets also count the crusades of th epast, i think the christians covered more ground than the muslims have, so…
(of course that is unless you also say it has to be after your statement..in which case its like punching a bunch of people and saying “whoever i hit now i will owe for, and now whoever hits me you owe for”..they probably see it as retaliation for the bull in the past and, well, the iraq wars, the covert ops, the torture etc…and the fact that ALL EXTREMISTS that push their faith, “christian”, “muslim”..feckin “druid”..whatever, they are ALL dangerous terrorists that constanly attack a way of life, that is not perfect but has a chance to grow and evolve if people took a step back and looked at things relatively…
..maaan, I miss the Chappelle show…bloody oprah.
the extremists are everywhere, even at the top….never forgeth that..i mean look at the last president! I thought the constitution separated religion and state, seemed to me there were a few too many mentions of GOD there.
(I believe in a creator, but we are arrogant to assume we know who or what it is and to say we know with absolute certainty what they are about or that they speak to us in a way that we can completely understand and thus put into a book for other, who MUST follow it TO THE LETTER…personally, i think ALL religions seem to revolve areound the same thing, and make reference to a division of understanding-four corners of the earth- that means WE MUST ALL UNITE and work together to grow and evolve..philosophically, spiritually, scientifically…all of it needs to come together if we want to go forward…
…but thats just MY opinion, and I respect you whatever you believe, or whatever concepts you “maybe” entertain)
R.I.P. Robert Anton Wilson/George Carlin/Bill Hicks/..South Park
Tim McVeigh was NOT a Christian. He believed that the universe was guided by natural law, energized by some universal higher power that showed each person right from wrong if they paid attention to what was going on inside of them. McVeigh would tell friends, “Science is my religion.” That is NOT Christianity. Yes he did get the last rites when he was going to be executed but that probably was either done for his parents benefit or to “cover the bases” just in case.
Ted Kaczynski was an atheist jew so another person that was not a “christian”.
Scott Roeder was a nutjob that belonged to a fringe psudo-christian church and Eric Rudolph belonged to christian identity (another fringe psudo-Christian church).
All those people you mentioned were OUTSIDE the mainstream. Christians have condemned their actions as immoral and evil. So why try the “Christians are the same as Muslims” when it comes to terrorism?
It is not the same.
BTW this is an example of the latest attack on someone who “insulted” the prophet.
On 1 January 2010, Danish police shot and wounded a man at the home of Kurt Westergaard in Aarhus. Westergaard drew the best known of the cartoons, which depicted the prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.
The man was described as a 28-year-old Somali linked to the radical Islamist al-Shabab militia. He reportedly shouted in broken English that he wanted to kill Westergaard, who alerted police after locking himself into a panic room in the house, which was a specially fortified bathroom.
A spokesman for al-Shabab, Sheikh Ali Muhamud Rage, commented: “We appreciate the incident in which a Muslim Somali boy attacked the devil who abused our prophet Mohammed and we call upon all Muslims around the world to target the people like him.”
So while Christians CONDEMN terrorist acts muslims cheer them on. Of course people like apparently hate christians so much that you ignore these little facts.
I can only hope that you’re being sarcastic, otherwise your ignorance and bigotry astounds.
FYI – Timothy McVeigh, a terrorist who wasn’t muslim.
Every time somebody wants to point out Christian terrorists, they bring up McVeigh. And only McVeigh. He’s the only one they can ever come up with, while Muslim suicide bombers happen every day. Maybe McVeigh was just one lone messed-up dude and it’s not a world-wide Christian problem like it is with the Muslims.
The IRA?
And the UVF! Thats two in the same place, except that the UVF isn’t evil, as it targets the IRA.
The IRA wasn’t targeting all non-catholics, thwy where (in there mind at least) fighting against an illegal occupation of their country by Britain.
Thomas, you’re an idiot. Don’t you see that your alarmist rant about Muslims is exactly the type of stuff Muslims are saying about other religions too? In other words, you’re doing the same thing they are. People with your mindset – which includes terrorists, Muslim and otherwise – are why we’re where we are today. Thanks.
Really? Please name me one current organized religion that preaches death to westerners: man, woman or child? Timothy McViegh-ism? IRA-ism? I’m-a-backwoods-wackjob-and-wanna-blow-shit-up-ism?
I’m shocked to see the ignorance on this board defending “Muslims”. NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS. But is all terrorists are not Muslim, then it has to be in the high 90s percentile, don’t ya think?
You and some other people here are the reason another plane is going to fall out of the sky. You want the blond-haired soccer mom with three kids to be searched so that Akhbar Muhammad Abdul Youssef with his Koran and ticking “birthday present” can board without being profiled.
Are you going to wake up to the fact that it is 2010 and not all of these people “just need a hug” or do some of YOUR loved ones need to die first?
Ummm… The Oklahoma City bombing? They were White American Terrorists smarty pants. And, oh hey! So was George Washington! And all our founding fathers. And the Protestant Pilgrims before them. And so on and so on. Although any major religion that splits the entire global population into ‘Those that submit to the will of Allah’ and ‘Those we war with’ is a whole bunch of trouble waiting to happen – Dar al-Harb represent!
And don’t forget the Irgun which included the father of Obama’s Rahm and Hollywood’s Ari Emanuel. They were jewish terrorists that murdered over 250 antagonizers alone in their first decade of existence.
Comedy central is pathetic, These Muslim jack bags need a swift kick in the ass. I’ll give comedy central some credit at least there not complete cowards like the ABC CBS NBC. Call it as it is! Islam is a religon of extreme violence, fear, intimidation and opression, it’s a peaceful as a sledgehammer to the skull. The only way we can make these jerks happy is for all of us to die. You know what I think all of these muslim jerks should die.
Parker and Stone are without a doubt two of the bravest social commentators currently working in Hollywood (or anywhere in my opinion). They pull their punches for nobody, and they are consistently spot on with their satire. I’m glad they are still on the air, and hope they are for many years to come. In this age of spin they are a refreshing voice of truth.
I couldn’t agree with you more. “South Park” has been a mainstay of international “poke fun” television since the get go.
So they make fun of Jesus, other Jews, Canadians, you name it. My favorite is their episode where they poked fun at two ambivalent dads “whacking off” in a swimming pool (being a gay man, I roared with laughter) So why not go ahead and make fun of Mohammed? Who the hell cares except the aforementioned New York sect which is so bundled up they need a laxative to rid themselves of their poor, poor stacked up condition.
My God, what the hell has this world come to and why do we allow it to happen? Extra security for “my guys”? For their sake – yes. Sounds like the precautions taken after 9/11.
For our sake – bullshit. If Muslims don’t like us poking fun at Mohammed, then f@#$ em, honey; let them go back to the Middle East and knock off their own. Then let them do an act of contrition in front of Mohammed. I bet he would kick some ass.
After reading all the comments, may i advise that,if the learned were to understand Islam and Muslims at all, they would realise that it is not only blasphemous to depict not only our beloved prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) but any other prophets AT ALL. In muslim countries, if a story involves portraying the Messenger,it is done as a voice or in shadow. If you would read the Quran you would understand we cannot depict any living thing in our decorations in our mosques, thus the geometric designs..for fear of worshiping the “living”.THAT is the reason we cannot depict the prophets..for fear that we might bow to their portrait,as such.
So please understand the religion first, before you make comments.
O.K. Siti, I will accept that you speak for Islam and Muslims. If it is o.k. for the Messenger to be depicted in voice or shadow, then South Park was right on by putting him in a U-Haul, making his voice very faint, and putting him in a bear suit. It was done correctly and still your people threatened death. Furthermore, no one from your religion stood up and denounced the New York terrorists for threatening Stone and Parker and the First Amendment. Your silence is telling. And by it we can only conclude that your entire religion sanctions the violence and death threats, and that you all take delight in the death of any non Muslim by the hands of any Muslim. You are complicit by your inaction.
Of course they haven’t gone too far. South Park has been such a hit for so long because of their lack of limits. Honestly who hasn’t received death threats from extremists in this day in age?
If they’d have gotten death threats for making fun of Jesus, you’d be the first to condemn the haters and stand up for South Park. But when it comes to Mohammed… well, Comedy Central is acting “wisely.” Admit it — you’re afraid.
Congratulations: they win, the rest of us lose.
So if we put up a website and threaten Parker and Stone if they don’t show us the original, does that mean we can get our way? It seems it’s as simple as that.
amen.
I just hope the 2nd half is as funny as the first. Comedy Central needs to get a backbone instead of cowering, bravo to Stone and Parker.
“…wisely, took precaution by censoring Muhammad’s image and name”
wisely is not the adverb that belongs here.
http://thesaurus.com/browse/cowardly
Is a better place to find the proper word choice.
“Wise” are you kidding?! South Park did not go far enough. We should be standing up for Matt/Trey. It’s complete bullshit that they have to be censored because some moronic group of violent assholes want to live like it’s 1000 years ago in complete and utter oppression.
Blocking the images only give these fucking idiot cowards power. Other religions can take criticism why can’t they?
“…wisely, took precaution by censoring Muhammad’s image and name”
Wisely is not the adverb that belongs here.

I am ashamed that I ever watched that network. Kudos to Matt and Trey for standing up for what they believe in. Shame on Comedy Central for being such cowards. At some point people need wake up and realize Islam isn’t the peaceful religion they claim to be. No other group portrayed in that episode has made any types of threats. It does say a lot.
What I want to know is where is that section of the Muslim community that is crying out that a group like this doesn’t represent the religion? A bunch of knuckleheads who have no place in a civilized society. Cowards on both sides. Those who threaten and those who cave in to those threats. I hope we see an episode where there is a battle of the religious prophets, like a battle of the bands.
I second that.
Is Nellie Andreeva Muslim? If so, all credibility for her reporting here just went out the window. The questions she raises are moronic. The comments about if it was Jesus or some other “idol” which South Park has had a go at in the past are spot on. Where was she then?
You honestly think Comedy Central acted “wisely” by capitulating to the demands of Islamic fundamentalist criminals? You might want to scan the second sentence of your post for the word “appease,” and then check into the unfortunate 20th Century history of the term.
Comedy Central had no problem showing Muhammad a few years ago in the “Super Best-Friends” episode of South Park.
Good for Trey and Matt once again calling out their network and the extremists who are all hypocrites and fear-mongers.
it’s comedy central. lighten up.
Freedom of speech!
(unless under threat from Muslim extremists)
Matt and Trey are grown men and can think for themselves. They are fully aware that they are putting themselves in danger by making fun of muhammad, yet they do it anyway because they beleive, as i do, that the first amendment is inviolate. It’s the first amendment for a reason. Shame on comedy central for their cowardice. Matt and Trey should leave comedy central for a network brave enough to stand up for the right to speak freely. And if there isn’t a network brave enough, post the episodes online.
they didn’t repeat the episode at midnight as they usually do i’m assuming the network pulled it…
Wasn’t it at the end of the Cartoon Wars episode that Trey and Matt put a message on-screen that they’d quit if Comedy Central ever censored them again?
to be honest, if it means dealing with death threats and Muslim extremists, Trey and Matt needed to rethink it. I can see the young and single Matt and Trey doing it, but now, don’t they have families? There’s always a certain limit.
{SARCASM ON}
Islam isn’t the problem… everyone else on Earth is!
{SARCASM OFF}
Considering that the two-part episode was a satirical condemnation the act of self-censorship as a response to violent threats, the network’s decision is a poignant reminder of the need for such satire.
Heh. I’d like to see them add Muhammad as a 5th friend and have his censored rectangle and bleeped name in every damn scene from here out.
I’m sorry, but it’s hard to take seriously adults who watch cartoons.
The smartest writing on television for years has been in animation. Digger, we’re not watching The Flintstones here. Obviously, you don’t watch Southpark. Turn off “two and a half men” and check it out sometime.
South Park is. I can’t think of any other well-written animated show. Family Guy is moronic. Simpsons and King of the Hill had about three good seasons each. Am I missing a secret channel for smart animation somewhere?
Oh, God, Digger,
Another idiot who proselytizes about peoples’ personalities and what they watch. I bet you take your telescope and watch from your 5th Ave. apartment the folks who must “go” in Central Park sans being able to get to the johns first. Save your rhetorich for those who give two squats (pardon the pun).
I just love ding-bats.
You’re foolish.
What is your definition of a cartoon? What about political cartoons in every major newspaper in the country, those must be for the children…
Precisely what I was thinking. (tossing in the 1954 film release of ‘Animal Farm’, etc)
Are you serious? Not only is it one of the most intelligent pieces of modern satire currently available, but it is also one of the last bastions of take-no-prisoners truth one can find. To any and all who decry South Park as “just a cartoon,” I encourage you to watch episodes 200 and 201 once more, a little more closely than you obviously did the first time.
Evidently cartoons are serious enough to warrant death threats.
Yeah digger, you’re a dipshit. Watch Persepolis, Grave of the Fireflies, or the Ghost in the Shell films and say cartoons are only for kids. Also, some of the earlier WWII-era serials were war propaganda aimed at adult moviegoers.
