Producer Miriam Segal will finally begin filming her The Great Ghost Rescue on Monday. She has been planning this adaptation of Eva Ibbotson’s children’s book for a long time. Production will take place over eight weeks in the UK and Hungary. Affinity International – the new name for Odd Lot International — will start international sales at the Cannes film market. CAA and Affinity are handling North American rights together. Yann Samuell is directing and the family adventure stars Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Kevin McKidd (Percy Jackson & The Olympians) and Emma Fielding (The Other Man). Gap financier Silver Reel has come on board, as has Los Angeles-based mezzanine financier Newbridge Film Capital and London post-production house Lip Sync Productions.

I have never heard of this book. Is it popular? A one-off, or a series of books?
Author Eva Ibbotson has written a few children’s books (grades 3-7) in the “Dial a Ghost” series about ghosts and their comical misadventures. Here’s the plot for this particular story (courtesy of a synopsis at Amazon): “Cast out when their spooky castle gets modernized into a holiday camp, Humphrey and his ghost family search for a new home. They meet a friendly schoolboy named Rick who decides they should start a ghost sanctuary, since human expansion has ruined so many ghoulish spots in England. When the sanctuary turns out to be a trap meant to exorcise all of the ghosts, Rick and Humphrey must save the day.”
Sounds great!! Cant wait.
