TNT is plotting The Great Escape with producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. The
cable network has shot an action-adventure competition reality pilot produced by Imagine TV and Fox TV Studios. The show, which has a MacGyver-flavor to it, puts ordinary people in extraordinary movie-like situations challenging them to escape using only their everyday skills, team work and what they can find around them. Justin W. Hochberg is executive producing along with Imagine TV’s Grazer, Howard and David Nevins. The pilot is in consideration for a series pickup at TNT.
The action-adventure reality genre is hot, with another top filmmaker, Michael Bay, recently teaming with the Magical Elves for One Way Out, which is being shopped to the networks. Hochberg has three other projects in the works, The Lost Weekend with Brett Ratner for the CW, Crushed for the Style network and Going Commando for Cartoon Network. TNT had a slow start in the unscripted area with its first reality series, the Mark Burnett/DreamWorks TV series Wedding Day last summer.

I look at this and so many of the reality based genre and see a couple of shining lights. “The Amazing Race” is still good to watch, as it still casts someone besides 20 to 25 year olds in at least some of the roles. “Survivor” occasionally skews a little older for cast as well and seems to keep going.
Age and wisdom seem to have some weird power over teeth and hair in these endurance things. I hope the producers allow some of the cast to be over 30.
So this is different than the other cable action-adventure series One Way Out?
Ron!!! What are you thinking???? The Great Escape was a great movie with most of the actors over the age of 40. Now it gets the great “Bastardization” to reality. May those men, who are real people in time and history, rest in peace. What the hell are you two thinking??? Reality sucks and always will. It is the death knell or scripted televison shows and the demise of real crew people who have already lost so much due to this trash.
With the great products that have been created by your company you have to resort to this junk?? Opie, you need to re-think this action. I guess it really is all about the money and not the creative juices that made you two so powerful. My, my.
Will the last true crew member who has to move because he or she has lost their job because of the crap and can’t make a living please turn out the lights?
—WHAT is it with these clueless, trend-sycophantic,
depthless, clueless Boomer era Hollywood figures?

Finally! A reality show that might be worth watching. Thank you! I look forward to tuning in to see how it is. Though little confused as to why some articles are tying Donnie Walburg to it – how is he connected to it or are some articles just a little confused as to whose idea it was.
