UPDATE: Another new NBC series, comedy Friends With Benefits, will recast two roles, replacing Fran Kranz and Ian Reed Kesler. Kranz tweeted the news: “NBC picked up Friends with Benefits but not me. I was fired. Too big. I kept saying I was huge but people told me it was great. Guess not.”
PREVIOUS: Recasting on the newly picked up series is starting fast and furious this year with a third show losing a main lead in the past 12 hours. (CBS To Pick Up ‘Bleep My Dad Says’ But With New Lead & Joely Richardson Off ABC’s ‘Whole Truth’) I hear David E. Kelley’s new legal drama series for NBC Harry’s Law will be replacing Ben Chaplin. The project stars Chaplin, Kathy Bates, and Aml Ameen, but Harry’s Law is mostly about Bates. And her engaging performance in the pilot was a big reason for the series pickup. As for Chaplin, the change was chalked up to not a good fit between a character and an actor.

What was thec problem with his performance?
That’s a drag. A really fine actor who’s had a long run of bad luck lately.
Why did they replace Fran?
Fran is a great talent. He will land somewhere better.
Two sides to every coin.
Kranz is a bad luck charm and particularly asset as a talent. Everything he’s been on has been a bust. He’s a reasonably good comic actor without much range and an annoying presence. The show is better off having fired him, all other things being equal.
BUT… the Friends with Benefits pilot was awful. It’s hard to imagine this being a hit. (Though who knows, Two and a Half Men is.) There are no laughs in it. Kranz himself may be better off having been fired, all other things being equal.
Really? No range? I completely beg to differ. He showed a tremendous amount of range in Dollhouse, though it wasn’t necessarily comedic. He’s got a future ahead of him, for sure. Friends with Benefits? I’m not so sure about that.
Fran Kranz is a fantastic actor and you know obviously know nothing about acting if you think he has no range.
Wondering if they might be doing the same thing with their other comedies. Seems like the Love Bites promo photos are only of Becki Newton ( not Jordana Spiro ). Same goes for Perfect Couples. No photos sent out with Kyle Howard in them. Maybe TBS is going to have a last minute change of heart with My Boys? I believe both Jordana and Kyle are still first position on My Boys???

Oh, good! Fran Kranz is a stinky actor. He drags down everything he is in. How he keeps getting work… he must be a really nice guy. He looks like one. But his acting just plain sucks.

Obviously a letdown for Fran but how many times has one door closed and another opened. Fran may be going through the window at this point, but somehow I doubt that’ll be a problem for him. Besides, he is starring alongside Thor in Cabin in the Woods. He’ll be fine.
Fran Kranz, or Frank Ranz as I call him, is a genius, virtuoso actor. Go see him in a play, dinguses. He should just do movies now. Television can suck my balls.

It would seem to me that whatever side of the coin you shave your back on, the blame does not lie with Mr. Kranz, but rather with the ineffectual pilot seasons he dominates year after year.

Fran Kranz is beyond creepy. Everytime his character came on the screen on the stupid “Dollhouse”, it made my skin crawl.
