UPDATE 2:40 PM: Summit has just confirmed that Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, and Nikki Reed will all return as members of the Cullen Family in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN. These cast members join Billy Burke as Charlie Swan.
9:40 AM: Really, my eyes glazed over at the recent ruckus that those secondary actors were demanding as much as $4 million each to do the 4th and 5th installments of the Twilight Saga. (Summit Entertainment still hasn’t confirmed my scoop that Breaking Dawn will be split into two pics.) I’m all for higher pay for thesps, and Summit has tons of cash to spread around. But in this case Summit gave these actors their big break, and offered them 10 times what they’d made in the first movie, and could have replaced every one of them with hungry unknowns had it not been for the execs’ fears of offending fans. (Remember how that redhead got axed? And the Twi-hards got over it?) Anyway, I’ve learned that Kellen Lutz and Elizabeth Reaser and Nikki Reed have finally closed their deals. And I hear deals are about to be done with Jackson Rathbone and Ashley Greene. And I have no idea whom any of these actors are.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Wow … why the hostility?
These are a bunch of young actors in a successful franchise. They may well never have this kind of hit again (not a commentary on their talent level, but rather on the realities of the business).
Why does negotiating hard make them “brats” rather than people making the smart business decision to press hard when they perceive they have an advantage?
Maybe Summit didn’t have to blink first, maybe they could have pressed back harder, but why should anyone be so hostile towards actors for making the most of this opportunity?
(Not knowing who “any of these actors are”, ultimately, says more about you than about them. Reed and Lutz have pretty impressive resumes for actors of their ages. Reaser has had a longer career, but she’s certainly at the point where she couldn’t expect this kind of payday again.)
Nope, we aren’t over the fact that Rachelle was replaced.
And why are actors ‘brats’ for wanting a bigger paycheck?
Summit is making so much money off of this franchise. Good on these actors and their reps for getting these ridiculous amounts of money. Most of them aren’t very talented and likely won’t have much of a future beyond this franchise. Let them get paid now.
Sasha Baron Cohen is a genius for bilking Paramount out of tens of millions for a comedy that will probably do middling business (based on SBC’s non-Borat track record) but these kids are “brats” for demanding a bigger chunk of an all but guaranteed pie?
Not likely.
Baron Cohen had more than 4 lines though. Hes actually a movie star. The brats who asked for 4 mil dont. If you see the movies, theyre in 5-10 minutes and serve as props.
There was fury when Rachelle LeFevre was fired so they could put in Bryce Dallas Howard, and they’ve calmed down due to time passing, but if Bryce sucks in Eclipse, she’ll be raked across the coals.
And hey, if Twilight alum Anna Kendrick can get Oscar-nominated in a different movie, maybe none of this crew should be judged for Twilight until they can be showcased in other fare.
If Bryce sucks in Eclipse? What, Rachelle actually had a speaking role that shows acting range? How big was her part in NM, 2 minutes tops? Two jumps, one dive, one run, done and out. It was all about big red hair. Bryce`s got that so why worry?
The other girl will forever have the potential as she did not actively suck in the first two movies – maybe for the lack of opportunity, since these movies seem to suck any talent right out of actors in general. People will always believe that she would have not sucked in the third movie as well.
Potential always wins over reality, especially a bad one.
It’s more because the fans got attached to Rachelle than her actual performance. I don’t mean that to be taken offensively. In interviews Rachelle Lefevre actively created the impression that she was very passionate about the books which – unsurprisingly – made her more likeable to the fans. I know most Twilight fans would say that she is one of their favourite actors in the Twilight movies, purely for her personality and her love for the books. Of course, there’s always the exceptions and I don’t mean to generalise – this is just how I see it. Everyone wants to hear that the actor that has been cast in a film based on their favourite book is an ardent fan of it too who will want to do it right.
She also has attended many Twilight conventions/fan events in the past. She’s constantly reached out to the fans of the Twilight series and that has endeared her to many.
Bryce Dallas Howard is seen by many as your typical got big because of her family. (I’m not saying that I believe that; I just know that some people believe it) She was offered the part originally but she turned it down. After the Twilight saga blew up, she accepted the role. Many Twilight fans see the motivations behind this as a per “get rich quick” scheme. Others believe in a “conspiracy” – if Summit gets one Howard involved, it might attract the other, bigger one. Which I personally feel has a bit of truth in it – Summit wanted a Oscar winning director for Breaking Dawn. This has been proved by the recent announcement of Bill Condon being hired.
So the whole “my daddy is Ron Howard” + the fact that she’s replacing a very much loved actress (and has a history of doing so in other movies) + the taboo of recasting parts in series + the knowledge that she had originally declined the role = very angry, suspicious Twilight fans. It’s your typical “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”.
A lot of Twilight fans are going to be very critical about her performance in Eclipse. And that is why, Addison, the Twilight fans reacted so strongly to the recasting of a character who’s part in NM was “2 minutes tops” and “she’ll be raked across the coals” if she doesn’t deliver a perfect performance a la Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight.
Yeah, Rachelle didn’t have any lines in NM. Because her character isn’t even in that book. She is talked about and there is a visible flash of red hair, but no actual scenes with Victoria. So the fact that Summit brought her in only to replace her in what is her character’s biggest film is ridiculous
come on Nikki, your petty and selective hatreds are showing; who on this earth thinks you deserved all that scratch for this site? WhoTF are you?
They’re brats? How many people ask for more money? Some do for shows when they are *ONLY* a guest star. What’s that then? And I don’t think fans would be happy if they replaced the WHOLE family so giving them a deal is the right thing to do. Lots of the fans like the movies for the cast and if it weren’t those people, it could be a different story.
And you don’t know who they are? The only one I didn’t know was Ashley Greene and she is the 4th lead, third really cus she had a bigger role than Taylor Lautner to begin with. Maybe you need to pay more attention to people cus they actually are known.
And they *can* act. Believe it or not. Especially when you see them in other roles, the press eats their words.
Im in love with Ashley Greene
Amazing. Actors are getting sh*t on enough right now but a few unknowns are playing a rightful game of hardball and we have to hear this “I don’t know any of these people” line.
They may be marginal talents, but why should we expect them to be less greedy than everyone else in this town. Are all the 8 figure stars extraordinary-gifted actors or mostly reasonably talented actors who got extraordinarily lucky?
They ARE brats because they literally only have 3-4 lines. Ive seen the movies. THese actors suck. Kristen Stewart carries them and she has a MUCH more impressive resume than nikki reed. SHe worked with Jodie Foster, Sean Penn, even played Deniros daughter, and many more in indies.
Reed can only get jobs that Catherine Hardwicke is directing because she dated her father. Reed didnt write Thirteen. It was about her life but I bet HArdwicke wrote it and Reed suggested a word here or there. HAve you seen her interviews? Shes dumb. The fans hate her because Rosalie was supposed to be different. She didnt match the physical description and looks ridiculous as a blond with pale makeup. Ashley and Kellan are horrible too. ugh. At least after they get their money they will dissapear. The main three Kristen, Rob, and Taylor are the only irreplacable ones
So what if twi-hards don’t like Reed? She doesn’t sound dumb at all, and how do you know she didn’t really co-write Thirteen? You ‘bet’? Based on what?
And if Reed and the rest have only 3-4 lines, how does that make them brats? And how would Stewart be carrying them?
Reed dared to say the truth such as that R-Pattz is feminine. So fangirls are reeling. of course they know that he is but don`t like to hear it because the same was said about Lance and Rickey, etc. So that`s forboding right there. Also, Ted Casablancas gossipped that Reed committed an unspeakable crime of once dating R-Pattz! Edward actually dated someone else than Bella! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That cannot happen! Lets hate on Reed for raping R-Pattz who really didn`t want to but was duped into drinking Viagra-filled scotch and tied to the bed.
Who wants to bet that Robsten will be over as soon as Breaking Dawn part 2 opens? Now that`s a stunt couple if there was ever one.
Kristen Stewart can’t act her way out of a paperbag without biting her lips, running her hand through her hair and blinking a lot. Which could be tolerable if she hadn’t one of the most monotone voices and line readings in the entire business. She should be doing silent movies.
I still don’t understand how they think they can get two movies out of that book. They’re going to need to add a lot of filler because there was hardly enough substance for one movie, let alone two.
As a fan of the Twilight books & films, I did not want to see the on-screen Cullen family broken up and the supporting cast deserves to be paid well considering that this franchise is raking in the dough and the Cullens are a huge part of the franchise. I love Ashley as Alice and Kellan as Emmett, who are two of my fave characters from the books, and Alice is a crucial character in Breaking Dawn (NOT Nikki Reed’s character, Rosalie). None of the Twifans really cared that Rachelle Lefevre was replaced as Victoria, but trust me, we do care about our Cullens. Oh, and who cares if “some” of them “used” to be unknowns, they are NOT unknown now and if you look at any of the gossip rags, Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz are all over their pages, right behind Robsten & Taylor Lautner. For the record, Peter Facinelli and Elizabeth Reaser have been around for a long time and I knew who both were when they first were signed on to the film and if you think that they can’t act then you should check out Peter in Nurse Jackie and Elizabeth when she was in Grey’s Anatomy – both brilliant. And Summit if you are listening, please make Breaking Dawn into two films – that would be fantasic.
When did this blog become invaded by the Nikki Reed fan club. The girl is a forgettable bore. Give em all something to live off of before their careers are over.
Only last week, Nikki went through the roof frothing in fury because a producer in Cannes wasn’t paying money owed to actors back here in Hollywood. Only a month ago Nikki was snarling about how the industry wasn’t paying money owed to actors in terms of residuals, etc.
Yet now Nikki does an 180 degree turn and snarls at actors having the nerve to ask to be paid? I don’t get it. For three films, these actors have labored at minimal wage, all the while watching their hard work generate a block buster of profit that rivals the Harry Potter films. So their last chance to share in even a tiny bit of that profit suddenly has Nikki snarling and calling them names? I don’t get it. First Nikki is on the side of the actors getting paid – then she’s snarling at their nerve for asking to be paid. What’s going on here?
Personally, I am proud of these actors for standing their ground and getting a bigger paycheck. The cruel reality of Hollywood is that each acting job could literally be your last – so kudos to these Twilight actors for taking care of themselves in case that happens.
15 minutes of fame AND $4 million. That’s ridiculous man! They should have been pumped and dumped for the pretty (useless) fucks that they are.
The entire industries just become a barrel of shit. And what’s the bets that every single one of those little pieces of shit is related to somebody in Hollywood – while real actors and actresses don’t even get a look in.
Ashley Greene is actually great as the role of Alice. I don’t really like Twilight, but I guess they deserve money, but not $4 Million, Summit won’t even raise New Moon’s budget by more than $10M, It’s impossible that they got that much!
What Scummit really needed to do was pay to get another screenwriter. Rosenberg ruined New Moon and better not do the same with Eclipse.Since the first film came out its been the Taylor/Jacob show.Even though New Moon was mainly about Bella and Jacob, she short changed Bella and Edward’s reunion. The minor characters played by Lutz and Greene have bigger parts in the books. Stephanie Meyer should have written the dam scripts herself.
They are not getting $4 million. The number is $1.25 million a film. That’s excellent for Lutz considering he has so few parts. Not so good for Ashley who has more parts in the first one, but she’s gone in the most of the second one anyway. To whomever said their wife told them Rosalie (Nikki Reed) becomes a major character only after Robert and Kristen, she was lying. Breaking Dawn ends up being all Bella, the half human-half vampire baby, and Jacob. A whole third of the book is Jacob’s POV.
The people making the real money off of this series are Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. They get salaries plus backend deals and reportedly a percentage of the merchandise, as they should.
Nikki Reed is generally hated by most Twi-hards and not only because her character, but I won’t go into that mess. Also, Nikki F., it’s stupid of you to claim not to know any of these actors when there are a million Twilight and Summit related stories on the site. The whole world knows about this saga. It’s that popular.
The saga make a lot of money. It’s only fair that Summit shares the wealth with the actors. After all, it’s their movie as well. I’m sure that “Eclipse” will make close to 900 mil. 4 mill each is nothing compare to that…. and they’re not brats.
ashley greene is hot. I support her.
Good for them! They deserve every penny.
24 million-for being in two movies that will gross in excess of 1.4 billion dollars in box office alone doesn’t seem all that unreasonable.
Twilight sucks LONG LIVE VAMPIRE DIARIES & TRUE BLOOD
They did the same thing with Twilight that they did with Avatar – they inflated audience numbers, and built the cost of buying out theaters into their ridiculous budgets.
Then they claimed all sorts of rebates against taxes.
This whole industry is such a joke now. Nothing is real anymore.
