The oddsmakers might want to reconsider the Cannes Film Festival competition after the jury just added Ken Loach’s Route Irish to the roster: a lot of Cannes Festival prizes have been routed to the filmmaker. He has been nominated for the Golden Palm nine times, and won in 2006 for The Wind That Shakes the Barley. He has won 10 other Cannes awards during his career, including two Jury Prizes–for Raining Stones and Hidden Agenda–and one for his body of work. His latest film focuses on two former soldiers, in love with the same woman, who hire on as contractors in Iraq. The title refers to a strip of highway that is a supply route from the Baghdad Airport.

I did see “Looking for Eric” and I must say one of Loach’s best films yet! It simply blew me away. I really grew with Eric as he transformed from a down-trodden postman to a completed man all from the help of soccer star Eric Cantona. It was hilarious yet sentimental, and I recommend it to all. And hey, according to the “Connecticut Post’s” David Germain, “By the time the film winds down, you will have found some solid new mates in Eric and his buddies!”
Yes, I did! And it was absolutely terrific. I cannot wait for Ken Loach’s next film. “Looking for Eric” has a perfect blend of humor and drama. It encompasses a meaningful message of familial struggles along with aloneness, love, and the fanatical world of soccer (which is so appropriately opportune with the World Cup). As a foreign film, it truly takes you overseas because of the strong cultural British ties, however it is the presence of Youtube, the love of soccer, and American rap and hiphop music that’ll bring you back to reality of our microscopic world. I’ve read many great reviews, and actually, it has been compared to Woody Allen’s “Play It Again, Sam”. So if you’re interested in watching a refreshing film, you won’t go wrong with “Looking for Eric”. It’s a must watch.
I just saw “Looking For Eric” and it was amazing. I’m so happy I got the opportunity to see this film. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see this film because I’m not the biggest soccer fan, but I am a Ken Loach fan. I really enjoyed his films “Bread and Roses” and “Riff-Raff,” so I had faith that this would be a good film too. And it was!
