After some initial good press, there were boos as well as applause for the only American movie In Competition at its first screening at Cannes. Critics here feel it’s too conventional to be a Palme d’Or winner. One reviewer expressed surprise it was even included. That said, there is no clear frontrunner so far for the top award. The two favourites are Mike Leigh’s Another Year and Xavier Beauvois’ Of Men and Gods.
The London Daily Telegraph says that Sean Penn and Naomi Watts turn in characteristically agonized performances as Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame, the CIA spy who was outed by the Bush administration. The Evening Standard says that director Doug Liman never seems to have a firm grip on the drama – or on Penn, who gives what the paper calls a “desk-bangingly” enthusiastic performance. The Irish Times says that the story fizzles out somewhat in the last reel: “Still, we can hardly chastise the writers of a film about the WMD deceit for refusing to sex-up their own dossier.”

Well, it seems Finke still peddles the liberal pedal to the metal. Oh, I forgot. Finke states she is proud to be a liberal and thus the misinformation one gets from such even if the whole fricking world knows it was Armitage who outed Plame.
Good things to read here. Do not you think?
One: Richard Armitage admitted to outing Plame. He says he did it inadvertantly, as he did not know she was a covert agent.
Two: He was, technically correct about this. She had been out of service long enough that “outing” her was not a crime.
Three: Armitage is, in fact, a Democrat, notwithstanding his work with Ronald Reagan (who had many Democrats in his administration).
Four: There is no evidence that Rove or anyone in the White House had anything to do with the “outing” of Plame. Rove’s (and others) confirmation of Plame’s role was not even illegal, as she had not been an active agent for well longer than the time limit imposed by law.
The way you Americans argue inside the mental beltway of the Dem/Rep
tweedle dee tweedle dum construct is not only both hilarious and
crying sad but also very dangerous for the world.
The policies of the US government are a linear narrative that
runs through Bush snr , Clinton, Bush jnr and now Obama. All the
leading democrats especially in the Senate voted Yes to invade Iraq and on almost everything Bush/Cheney asked for…check out H.Clinton
voting record as Senator she gave Bush/Cheney whatever they asked for. Almost every Bush policies was set-up and facilitated by the
Clinton admin. The only real difference was between Al Gore’s denial Dick Cheney’s overt boasting but regardless of the CNN versus FOX News difference and style their world view and actions
are as one.
Ah, paranoia from a foreign America-hating lefty. I’m sure to him, Al Queda was framed.
I can see November from my house.
This a remake of that Cindy Crawford movie with Billy Baldwin? Sure, it was horrible but the chick had a great outfit. Man, let’s see that Plame chick look that good in that tank top.
Sean Penn sucks richard
Currious how as soon as it was found out that it was Armitage and you could not have Rove/Cheney/Bush’s head on a plate, the story died; just like this movie will. I kind of feel sad for all you BDS types.
P.S. Which of the 3 “axis of evil” is not producing nuclear weapons, kidnapping hikers, nor sinking South Korean ships. Hint, it rhymes with A-Rack.
“…the CIA spy who was outed by the Bush administration…”
Um, right. Put another way:
“Richard Armitage? Gee, who’s that?”
Absurd movie gets absurd coverage, perpetuates disinformation.
And I love Hollywood people. They sunk the 8th largest economy in the world, destroyed their own local film economy, decimated their “unions” (which are just junky clubs), and keep making masturbatory exercises in perseveration that only make it in their own screening rooms. Stupid flunkies.
