UPDATE: I hear pilot Changelings (aka Betwixt) is dead. Amy Sherman Palladino’s pilot had been out of contention for a long time. And I hear HMS and Nomads have “minimal life” in them as the network has not made its midseason pickup decisions yet.
PREVIOUS: CW just picked up two new series, Nikita and Hellcats, and renewed both of its bubble series, One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected, while formally axing Melrose Place, which had had zero chance of returning. Nikita had been a frontrunner from the start and started making if-come deals with writers two weeks ago. As for Life Unexpected and One Tree Hill, Life Unexpected had a very soft launch in midseason but the network brass love the show creatively and see a growth potential in it. Meanwhile, veteran One Tree Hill has been very strong in the ratings lately, boosting its chances for renewal. Additionally, producing studio Warner Bros. TV secured an “if come” deal with creator/showrunner Mark Schwahn, now based at CBS Studios, which also helped the renewal decision.
NIKITA stars international action-film star and martial arts expert Maggie Q (“Mission Impossible III”) in the title role as a spy and assassin for a top secret U.S. government agency, who rebels against the system that created her and will stop at nothing to bring their powerful operation to an end. NIKITA is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers Craig Silverstein (“Bones,” “K-Ville”), Danny Cannon (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Chuck”), McG (“Supernatural,” “Chuck,” “The O.C.,” “Charlie’s Angels”), and Peter Johnson (“Supernatural,” “Chuck”). The pilot was directed by Danny Cannon. Co-starring are: Lyndsy Fonseca (“Desperate Housewives”), Shane West, Aaron Stanford, Ashton Holmes (“Boston Legal”), Tiffany Hines (“Bones”), Melinda Clarke (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Xander Berkeley (“24”)
HELLCATS is a coming-of-age drama about a you pre-law student (Aly Michalka, “Bandslam”) whose world is turned upside-down when she loses her scholarship and has to join the college’s competitive cheerleading squad. This fun, energetic series is a behind-the-scenes look at the drama, politics and pressure surrounding the high school football program at a Southern university. HELLCATS is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Tom Welling Productions, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Murphy (“Desperate Housewives”), Tom Welling (“Smallville”) and Allan Arkush (“Heroes”). The pilot was directed by Allan Arkush. Co-starring are: Ashley Tisdale (“High School Musical”), Heather Hemmens (“CSI: Miami”), Robbie Jones (“One Tree Hill“), Matt Barr (“Harper’s Island”), Sharon Leal (“Private Practice”) and Gail O’Grady (“NYPD Blue”)

So does this mean that all the other CW pilots are dead or will there be more picked up later this week?
any idea what’s up with Betwixt / Changelings
It would be a smart move for them to pick up Betwixt/Changelings. Seeing they didn’t mention
anything else and they were expected to pick up three…….Hopefully it will still happen. It’s obvious
everyone wants it to follow VD.
Awesome on Nikita! If it’s as good as Human Target, I’ll be happy.
No doubt though, there will be haters. It’s McG – there are always haters.
Lame haters.
Two shows, seven EPs–all male, no female.
Whatevs — 90210 is run by Rebecca Kirshner and Jenny Snyder, Life Unexpected is run by its creator, Liz Tigelaar, Vampire Diaries is co-run by co-creator Julie Plec, Gossip Girl is run by Stephanie Savage … whatever else you say about the CW, accusing it of chauvinism in its EP/showrunner choices ain’t a valid argument.
Yay Hellcats! I am so happy for Ashley Tisdale.
CW, Please pick up Betwixt / Changelings! There are so many viewers excited about this. Please
don’t disappoint us.
I don’t get how its a “look at the drama, politics and pressure surrounding the high school football program at a Southern university” How is it a high school football program at at southern unversity. that seems like an error.
But maybe I don’t get it since my college didn’t have football.
Thanks for the Betwixt / Changelings update!
sucks that it is dead tho
LA Times is reporting that The Damn Thorpes is dead, and Kristin from E! is reporting that HMS is dead.
All I want is for Nomads to get picked up. Come on, CW.
HMS is not dead. Betwixt, Nomads and Wyoming Project have all been dead for several weeks.
Then Kristin is an idiot.
Any news on if “Nashville” is also dead?
CW is in 11th place. And they’re just picking up two new shows. Cause that’ll make the difference???
How can this network survive? Hour-longs are expensive to produce. No one watches.
Will someone put Dawn Ostoff out of OUR misery soon?
Amy and Dan’s script was probably the best I read this pilot season. A phenomenal, witty, unexpected, layered piece of writing. Of course it didn’t get picked up.
No Betwixt/Changelings? Major, major fail, CW. Complete failure to capitalize on the resurgence / popularity of genre shows, like Vampire Diaries. CW *really* needed a breakout genre show THIS year, with SV and SN aging.
You know what this means, don’t ya? Top Model repeats on Fridays again. Some things never change.
Wow. I can’t tell you what a disappointment this pilot season is for all of us who were hoping The CW would ride the crest of momentum. Instead, we get a spy remake and a cheerleader show. Guess Dawn really is still in control.
Has the FALL 2010/2011 Scedule been revelead yet for the CW??..im curious to see where they schedule all the new and picked up series.
Of all the 6 pilots made, Betwixt is the only one I really want to see. I hope it gets picked up.
No!!! I thought Betwixt was going to be paired with The Vampire Diaries.
What a shame!
And it has a female EP…as do basically all the pilots whose deaths are announced in this post.
Betwixt is not Amy Sherman Palladino’s pilot, if that’s what you were saying about “out of contention for a long time”.
Um, Melrose anyone? Any word? They have a press release for the upcoming season and NO word on if MP will return? Really!
Melrose Place has been canceled.
NOOOOOO! Say it aint so,jes, say it aint so!
I found the following on KSiteTV:
“The latest title KSiteTV has heard is “Wyoming Story.”
Some TV journlists have been reporting the pilot, starring Sean Faris, would not be going to series; however, given this new title, perhaps it is a possibility for midseason? We’ll all know on Thursday when The CW makes their scheduling announcements…”
Maybe there’s still hope for the Palladino’s??? (Please!!!!!)
I’m worried that Nikita will be another Boronic Woman or Dullhouse and that they will hire people who worked on those clunkers to work on this one and ruin it.
Radge,
You’re not alone.
Yes Bionic Woman was bad, but Dollhouse was an awesome and brilliant show. The only bad thing about Dollhouse was that allot of the action was in the talking. This made it very difficult for stupid people to grasp the concept.
And trust me if anyone ruins Nikita, it would be McG. The guy who screwed up Charlie’s Angels and the Terminator franchise.
@Cam
The only stupid peps involved in Dollhouse were those who continued to tune in each week. Yes Joss Whedon is talented — but more often than not he makes a stinker.
@Cam and Motorbreath
You people need to grow up! Dollhouse was a show that pondered countless different psychological concepts. And it’s safe to say that not a lot of people are not into that. Which is perfectly fine, but it’s immature and pointless to call people stupid for liking it and vise a versa.
But I must admit, even though I really didn’t like it ether, it was better then anything CW is currently airing.
Betwixt and the Wyoming project tested horribly. The highest numbers were Nikita and HMS.
Really, where did you hear that from?
I have a hard time believing shows like The Beautiful Life, Melrose Place, and High Society project tested well. So???
The more I hear of Hellcats, the more I can’t wait to see it. Admittedly, I thought it would suck at first, but I was completely wrong. Everybody associated with it can’t speak highly enough of the idea and Tom Welling sounds like a great guy too.
Looking forward to watching it.
Gee, insync and esmerelda,
I really hope HMS gets picked up for your sake(s).
Otherwise I afraid your head(s) might explode.
Kristin is an idiot ? How old are you ?
I’m a little biased about Amy, since I worked with her in the late 80′s. TV is a bit boring without a Sherman or a Palladino, or a Sherma-Palladino. CW is moronic if they don’t pick up the show. Oh, wait, they didn’t. Morons.
So two more flops for the CW right? Nikita sounds like all those shows that filed on Fox. Isn’t Maggie Q too old for their audience anyway? It will be surprising if it makes it past five episodes. Hellcats sounds like Bring it On set in the South with some girl no one has heard of. The only thing the CW has going for them is Vampire Diaries, which caters to viewers until the next Twilight movie comes out. If these were the best pilots they could find, I shudder to think of what they were shown.
Here you are again Jenn with the same comments as tvbythenumbers, etc. You didn’t even bother to change your screen name.
Aww. Your show didn’t make it.
Cry more.
