I hear that hot CW pilot Nikita has gotten permission to start making “if come” deals with writers, allowing the show to staff up in anticipation of a series order. The La Femme Nikita update from writer Craig Silverstein, director Danny Cannon and producer McG has been an early standout at the network and considered a shoo-in for a spot on the CW’s schedule.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Ug. How many remakes of this terrific French movie do there have to be? An American series has already been done, AND an American movie.
Completely agree. The original film was perfection, and it seems like each remake is typical American tripe. At least Luc Besson is raking in the royalties.
And a Hong Kong version, BLACK CAT, which some believe is better than the original (it even spawned a sequel).
And the other HK classic… THE NAKED KILLER by Clarence Fok
The television series with Peta Wilson was Canadian, filmed in Toronto.
LFN- That was the Best! Not interested and will not tune into new yuppy version. Not new spin- just different people in a more Hollywood style instead of intense, incredible scripting!
CW will remain last in the Rating System, which itself is an outdated measurement of popularity.
Another remake? I am so tired of remakes and spin offs. I am sorry but I am not interested at all. I prefer new things.
Another complaint about remakes? They’re becoming more annoying than remakes themselves.
An Asian on TV!!! YIPPPEEEEEEEE!
Is TV finally turning color?!?!
Actually, two television remakes were produced. La Femme Nikita with the incomparable Peta Wilson. And then Alias with Jennifer Garner. They were both hugely successful and lots of fun. So, why not another but different LFN.
It Takes A Thief the movie, was remade into It Takes A Thief the tv series with the Robert Wagner, so charismatic that he could woo the whiskers off a cat. And now we have the very successful White Collar, which is It Takes A Thief with more emphasis on the buddy relationship and a unique wife/husband emphasis makes for three times the ingenuity.
Apparently, the “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” adage is as much of a good luck charm for TV in addition to marriages. Probably better, given the escalating divorce rate.
I thoroughly enjoyed Alias in addition to LFN. Unlike the LFN I immediately tuned into ABC’s Alias, probably because their advertising is constant and suspenseful. I only later discovered LFN and am still watching online to this day. That is enough times to “replay or revamp” this idea. They will have to wait decades for the bratty, brainless generation.
Nice to hear this news!
No wonder THR & Variety are dying. Nellie Andreeva manages to scoop them on literally every story lately. Keep up the good work!
Silverstein is gonna regret not having first position on his Terra Nova project instead of this one.
However, Nikita will tie in nicely with reruns of Silk Stalkings.
This remake is a Stupid Idea in capital letters. I’m not opposed to remakes, Roy Huggins reworked “the Outsider” with Darren McGavin according to legend with Steven Cannell into the Rockford Files. And shows that “just missed” because of casting issues, or timing, or writer’s strikes, deserve remakes.
I thought the remake of Cupid was a good move, even though it failed. The original was a nice try: a fast talking funny con men who appealed to men leading into a subject women care about: romance and relationships.
I’d like to see Vengeance Unlimited redone. I’d like to see JJ Starbuck redone. I’d like to see Big Apple (with Ed O’Neil) redone. All shows that had promise that just could not hang on, for a variety of reasons. Reasons that are fixable, and promise something a bit new instead of copies of stuff that ran years ago (but may not be right for the current time).
Not the least of which is a lack of guts to portray the real, not fantasy villains, of our age. The guy who allegedly parked the SUV filled with home-made bomb materials outside Viacom in Times Square is a Pakistani who has fled the nation. Alias and La Femme portrayed the bad guys as rival intelligence operatives who were too ruthless and brutal. The reality in front of everyone’s eyes is that current Western intelligence suffers from PC and Diversity Overdosing, with the real brutal and ruthless folks Muslim Jihadis. Not “Operations” or Level 9 or what have you.
I don’t see the fantasy that all the bad guys are boring White guys in suits in Executive Suites (maybe that works for Malibu Millionaires fighting amongst themselves) sustainable when the guys who are trying to blow ordinary Americans up are all Muslim jihadis. Willing to blow us up over … Santa in a bear suit, it would seem.
Toronto continues to deliver the goods, with the original “Nikita” series and now the new pilot.
Clearly none of you read the exciting, amazing, wow-inducing pilot script. I can’t wait.
Wow inducing? Really? It was the retarded love child of Melrose Place and… Steven Segal’s cop show.
The Canadian Nikita was great. Good characters, mystery, and until they cut the budget to threads in the last season, very well produced. Cohesive scripting. Sadly, may be Peta Wilson’s one hit wonder. Saw her in a Aussie Shark terror movie, which was sad on many levels.
I’m sure that given the typical arc of an American series, it will shortly have a “catch phrase” and cute sidekicks….
Don’t disturb my Nikita/Michael fantasy, please. Section One has eyes everywhere.
Why not a spin off of La Femme Nikita? Look at the success of Law and Order and all of the spin off series it has produced? Not to mention CSI and it’s spin off shows. I say good luck and I can’t wait to see the new Nikita.
Revy
Seems great!!!
I don’t understand why people are very connected to the characters / actors of the previous series. Why not give an opportunity for new actors, maybe the TV show will be more successful than the last.
I don’t understand why a series upgrading / renewal can not be good. If there is a talented screenwriter, with innovative ideas that create an engaging and original story, no drop in copies or repetitions of what has been done in the TV-Show past, I bet it will be a success.
I hope with all my heart that ‘Nikita’ go forward and leading.
I’m not saying that the old actors were bad, but as I am part of Shane West’s generation. Certainly I’ll like to see more Shane West and Maggie Q, than the old actors. Because honestly we can not cling to a stereotype image based on the past. Things have to be adapted to the present.
I am a diehard Nikita fan, and in answer to the connection we feel…(yeah I sent everything I could find to get the 5th season and campaigned like crazy for the DVDs, have the music which was way before its time, have the books etc.) Nikita was a show that drew you in because it never turned out how you expected. Michael was a stone killer, Roy Dupuis fit him so well, very subtle, seldom betraying any emotion, who fell for the emotionally connected Nikita (Peta Wilson) who fought the good fight and tried to bring Section some bit of humanity. The rest of the cast fit exactly with the theme, who was good versus who was evil. It was a kick ass show and there has never been one since that could hold my attention. A new Nikita? Mighty big shoes to fill…..I’ve watched every thriller since then, after the first show, I dont bother to tune in again. The great thing about Nikita was the total ruthlessness…..for the greater good…or so we thought. And that blood tear by Michael…..we’ll never see that again. So yeah I guess I’m connected….if it would be shown in prime time now my money would be on LFN,it was way before its time. That’s why we stay with Nikita. It was light versus dark…and we do so love the dark.
