Last time we saw Paul Dano on the rough frontier, his whiny preacher character was being clubbed to death with a bowling pin in There Will Be Blood. Dano is back in period mode, this time armed, playing a cowboy who takes on extraterrestrials in Cowboys & Aliens, the Jon Favreau-directed DreamWorks pic. Dano is set, and Keith Carradine is aboard to play the town sheriff, with Clancy Brown also a cowboy. The film stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell and Noah Ringer. Production starts June in New Mexico for a July 29, 2011 release. At this point, a 2D shoot is planned.

There will be blood still reigns as one of my favorite movies ever. Ive been wondering where Dano has been, and Cowboys and Aliens is shaping up to be really good.

With a cast like this, why on earth (or off it) will this be 2D?
Thank god they are planning to go 2D with this. I hope that they stick to this plan. 3D is so over-hyped right now it makes me sick.

Couldn’t disagree with you more. He was brilliant. The physical aspect of his performance is a huge part of its whole intent. And its success. He is supposed to appear strange and fake as Bryan said.

Also there was so press about that ending “I’ll drink your milkshake” when the movie was out and during the awards season.
Paul Dano is great casting. But don’t make the dumb mistake that’s in THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Dano first appears in 1911 and returns at the end (in 1927)….looking Exactly like he did earlier. I felt like screaming, “Makeup!! Slap a little gray in that actor’s hair! Age him a bit, for christ’s sake!”
Cowboys and Aliens has a LONG history in Hollywood. Interesting to see so many OLD projects (Tooth Fairy, etc.)coming to life now. When the economy sinks, projects crawl out of development hell.

I loved the set up for “There Will Be Blood”, and the characters were great, but I just think it fell apart in the last act. I just couldn’t buy into the ending and found it frankly, unbelievable. My two cents worth.
This film is looking cooler by the day. I’m actually getting quite enthusiastic about it!
I agree with a few of the others – I am SICK TO DEATH of 3D.
1 – It’s a pretty crap gimmick.
2 – The ticket prices are stupidly high.
