Doug Liman is formally set to direct The Three Musketeers at Warner Bros, a project that’s being fast tracked for a fall start. Lionel Wigram is producing, and the modern period style will be similar to the one he brought to Sherlock Holmes. Its script was written by Michael Robert Johnson, Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor. It’s one of several pics percolating–one has Paul W.S. Anderson directing–that are based on the Alexandre Dumas novel that is in the public domain. Meanwhile, Liman’s Fair Game premieres in competition at Cannes, and Summit has signed on as distributor.

This is such a great story and the last adaptation was not good. Let’s see what he can do. But Jonathan Rhys Meyers must, must, must be in this
Why another adaptation of the three musketeers it’s beyond my understanding!
Because I need to rid my brain of the memory of the Chris O’Donnell version!
Pretty hard to beat the Richard Lester version w/ Michael York, Oliver Reed, Faye Dunaway etc.
For those of you hating on Doug, remember that the proof is in the results… this guy launched the BOURNE franchise, as well as directing MR & MRS SMITH, SWINGERS and the hugely under-rated GO. While he was at it, he set the tone by directing (and producing) the first few seasons of “The OC” (in other words, the good seasons). If Doug is taking this on, it will kick ass. Period.
A little sensitive here no? No one has hated on Doug in any of the above posts.
Who exactly is hating on Doug here? You’re a mite defensive me thinks.
How can anybody not like Doug? He’s so money. And Go was great… especially on a tiny budget. I heard Doug say that one of his lawyer dad’s clients financed Swingers for about $750,000. That’s a happy man.
thanks for that, doug liman’s mom…
Dear Doug is my BOY:
Sounds like Doug is your BOSS
No one ever mentions Liman’s REAL first film — “Getting In,” a dark comedy about being on the waiting list for medical school, and killing people ahead of you to “get in”. Kristy Swanson starred and it went straight to video.
If anyone wants to hate Doug, they has no further to look than MR & MRS SMITH (he couldn’t even finish shooting it before he was kicked off) and JUMPER (one movie he wasn’t kicked off of and it shows). Warners execs best have plenty of patience otherwise this will be just another disaster.
those of you worshipping Doug have clearly never seen him on set. the guy is a wreck with little to no ability to make a wise creative choice on his own. whatever you enjoy about “his” movies, credit Simon Crane (his 2nd ad) and Lucas Foster (his producer/wrangler) for always making him look good. without those two, Doug would be directing proactive infomercials now.
Has anyone else had a car torched in (social-democratic welfare state) France? It is literally their “disaffected” youth’s past time. National disintegration burns over 40,000 autos a year, over 100 a night. (And these stats are for targeted vehicles not including those adjacent cars that catch fire too.) I can’t imagine this movie will have much appeal in the land of it’s birth, let alone a world struggling with radical terrorism and youth recruiting anarchy groups. However, I like to rent chic lit and period costumes so good luck.
