After some encouraging early signs out of ABC following CBS’ cancellation of Ghost Whisperer last week, I hear the financial aspect of ABC picking up the veteran drama starring Jennifer Love Hewitt ultimately could not be worked out. (The show is owned 50/50 by ABC Studios and CBS Studios.) Ghost Whisperer executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander just issued the following statement:
“After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
Ghost Whisperer is one of two cancelled CBS series that has been looking for a new life on ABC, along with comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine. I hear the chances of Old Christine don’t look good either but the producers are expected to make one last effort to make a deal with the network.

this is a very big dissapointment!!!! Alot of people loved this series. very mad at cbs….. There are alot of different shows that are not as great as this one but yet they keep them on the air!!!!

Ghost Whisperer is a great family show, me, my son, and all my 4 sisters watch every week, and it is a topic of conversation all the time! It brings us together, it is so great, please please work it out that it is still produced, and on the air and continues, or millions will go lost without it !
I think for Ghost Whisperer to be gone and Medium to still be is so said. If any show should have been canceled it should have been Medium. I am very sad to see the show end.
I agree. I too will be very sad to see Ghost Whisperer leave. I agree with another fan who states that there is no family programing (under 14) for kids to watch past 17. In addition, violence in the law, cop, and mystery shows is always disappointing! I am scared for the next generation who watches all the violence now and believes that violence is “just a part of life”
I too am very sad that CBS took Ghost Wisperer what is there to watch for the young people that like that show all the networks are showing to the young people how to comit crimes and how to get away with it that is not a good excample theat the networks are showing our young peopl my grandchildren love to come to my house on fridays and what ghost whisper

I can’t say ABC you lost a viewer, because I stopped watching ABC a long time ago and if it wasn’t for NCIS and NCIS LA I wouldn’t be watching CBS at all. I could understand GHOST WHISPERER being cancelled if there was a lot more BETTER QUALITY programming coming our way, but the replacement shows absolutely suck. It is the same old stuff or worse and nothing is positive and something kids can see. There are a few shows like NCIS that deserve to be left on, but we basically have cops shows, lawyer shows, reality tv shows, doctor shows and really bad comedy shows that needs a laugh track to remind people to laugh. Nothing really for children and young adults. In other words-the programing decisions SUCK!!! So some idiots decided to cancel two shows that does have good ratings (GHOST WHISPERER and OLD CHRISTINA) and I am not a fan of OLD CHRISTINA. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!! I am investing in a NETFLIX cable box and downloading shows and movies from NETFLIXs.
I totally agree. I never watched Old Christine but for ABC & CBS to totally screw up & let Ghost Whisper slip through their fingers, well, all I can say is the two networks are insane.
Ghost Whisper was one of 3 or 4 shows we always watched and dvr’d weekly. Even on vacation, we would turn it on when we could. With the popularity of ghost topics being high (i.e. ghost hunter etc), i believe the networks are making a mistake. I am holding on for a ghost whisper miracle. Please keep Ghost Whisper. I totally agree old Christine never watched that show. Ghost Whisperer that was one of the very best shows ever…I love Ghost Whisperer….. Yeah They are right all the shows on tv are about the same cops, drs.,private investigators, watch one and you know about them all. Ghost whisperer was unique(different) something that was great to watch. Ya’ll have really messed up CBS and ABC but you can bet that ya’ll will go on. You couldn’t have listened to many people cause there is alot trying to keep the show on….
Ghosts whisperer is a show that would upgrade ABC’s ratings, its a great show. Why would they take a show off if it helps them? Not only that but the show promotes peace, unity, love and shows how violence and hate leads to a dead end. Now there are more violent shows on ABC, maybe that’s no accident. Ghosts whisperer was a rare show, an unbiased show. They didn’t promote women being weak like shows usually do and the husband for a change was a smart, devoted, good man. The show gets a 5 out5 and ABC really needs to LISTEN to their fans. Give the show another season. Keeping the same cast. Aiden would be older of course
Why is it when you get a decent show it gets cancelled – Ghost Whisper was/is a great show. I hope ABC changes its mind this is a wonderful show, and should be given the opportunity to continue. I am very disappointed with CBS, and I will not be watching it in the future. I know that Ghost Whispers is on ION TV in reruns, I’d rather watch the reruns, then what whatever new CBS has this fall. My TV watching of of CBS will be limited, if at all.

I am so disappointed! I would have actually started watching ABC again if they had picked up Ghost Whisperer. My family and I have loved Ghost Whisperer and all lined up to watch it every week. We haven’t watched ABC in nearly a decade which is sad because it was once our favorite network. Their not picking up Ghost Whisperer only reinforces my belief that they still wouldn’t know good programming if it bit them. I will continue to stay away!

Ghost Whisperer is/was the only show I watch(ed), even reruns. This is the show that I got my e-mail address from because I love this show!!!!! To cancel it is the dumbest thing that a network could possibly do. It is the only show that my older children and I watch(ed) as a family. I believe in “earthbound spirits” and this show helped me to coop with my beliefs. More people will start going towards the cable stations and the regular networks will start losing more viewers and it will be their own dang fault!!!!

This sucks so bad. Every sunday night i watch the Ghost Whisperer in the Netherlands. I’m so very sad they are pulling the plug. Think again!! There are a lot more series not so good as this one!! i can’t beleiev they weren’t able to make room for GW, but they are basically replacing it with lame and worn out vampire/werewolf and other pointless and mind-numbing shows. Ghost Whisperer was the only show i would watch on CBS, i guess i can find something “better” to watch on fridays.
Don’t give up on Ghost Whisperer! Everyone needs to bombard CBS and ABC with emails supporting the show. Let them see the fan base this show has. Hit the website constantly so they see increased activity for the Ghost Whisperer page.

I agree. I’ve been watching this show from the beginning w/my two young daughters and they look so forward to this every Friday night. We love the show and know so many others that do too. Please bring it back. How can they leave a show like this just hanging out there when there are so many crappy shows on tv now, mostly all reality shows that are just stupid. Not many good shows left to watch on tv anymore. Please if there is any station that can pick up this show do so. It’s a wonderful and exciting show.

they didnt even ghost whisperer sometime like untill 2011 which iz now to pick up the ratings there are people dat didnt know anything bout ghost whisperer and juz started to wacht it like me i juz started to wacht it and i love it but i waz mad whne i found out dat i waz wachting episodes over and over again there so many other shows dat got worse rating then dis show but yet they still kept on line for lik a month or two im really mad….

Why are you gonna blame ABC when CBS is the one that cancelled in the first place? I heard that one episode costs 3 million — sounds a bit steep, but it definitely would have put abc back on the map on Fridays.
cbs did not cancel the show the network is owned 50/50 by cbs and abc .cbs tried to save it but abc being the Neanderthals they are obviously felt they could save more money by keeping low budget totally stupid programming on.

I’m so glad there is still hope for the adventures of old christine. I really wish this was a slam dunk. It’s like they tried to woo it for two years and now that is it available, they don’t want it anymore. It is one of the best comedies with so much more story to tell.
Sad. On the bright side, I look forward to seeing the actors in new projects. Hope that happens soon.

The writers are ultimately to blame for ruining the season with the stupid killing Jim/bringing him back as Sam/no it’s really Jim fugettaboutit disaster. Rating had dropped from highs of 10 mil+ to around 6 mil, and the storylines were crap this season for the most part. Prior to midway through season 4 I would have been upset, but now I say good riddance.

That reboot was stupid. And then they had a kid that looks like a miniature Brian Dunkleman, it was just weird.
I continued to watch, but it was never the same as the first two seasons.
All these “older” shows always seem to fail to get renewed because of the cost. Not being in the business, excuse my naivete, but would cast and crew taking a pay cut mean the show could still be on and they would still have jobs?
Although the prices for shows in their 5th or 6th seasons are higher, the costs of getting a new show off the ground and building up word of mouth are enormous. It would certainly seem that ABC would have a huge SAVINGS here, as CBS has already done the work for them. And with Old Christine they would pick up an annual and well deserved nomination for Julia.
This is why networks shouldn’t co-produce shows with each other. When one network cancels a show, it gives the fans false hope the other will pick it up!

It is almost unbelievable that they would canel Ghost Whisperer. It is such a great show. If ABC picked it up they would make lots of money. The new Christine show though is not on the same plain. It is stupid beyond belief. Wanda Sykes is the only saving grace.

Very sad. I looked forward to watching Ghost Whisperer every Friday nite. My daughter and I would paint our nails together and watch it. Im really tired of all the reality shows on Tv now. And to hear that The New Adventures of Old Christine is at risk to go off the air too. Not happy. Now I have nothing to watch on TV. I’m a big fan of LOST and that show is done. So now what? NO TV for me.

Here’s one figure 1.6 that’s the rating the show averaged last Friday night, here’s another figure 1.2 that’s the rating ABC averaged with much much cheaper reality Wife Swap. Network television isn’t a charity case, it’s still a business. When there isn’t enough viewers watching does it really make sense to continue a show? ABC could put cheap reality on Friday nights and get better ratings than Ghost Whisper was delivering.
If Ghost Whisper didn’t get picked up, and it’s half owned by ABC then there really isn’t much hope for Christine because that’s owned by Warner Bros.
Whether or not GW was making more than 2.0 in Nielsen ratings, it was still winning it’s time slot EVERY Friday night. Doesn’t matter if Jim was killed off or not. GW winning it’s slot should mean something and since CBS can’t tell when a show is good or not only means that maybe it’s days are numbered as well as the shows it has given the boot to.
Is anyone really shocked by the cancellation? I know alot of fans dropped the show when David Conrad’s character (Jim) was killed off. And then it got hokier when they brought him back as Sam. They made no sense from a storytelling perspective. IMO, it was a cheap ratings stunt that backfired.
Did any of you who are complaining turn on your Nielsen Boxes on Friday nights? If you saw the ratings, GW lost over 4M viewers this season and was under 2.0 in the demos. Cancellation was pretty much guaranteed.
whats all this nonsense about fans dropped when Jim character died etc. The Jim/Sam storyline was the BEST, the ratings went up from avg of 8.6 for season 3 to a whopping 10.6million for Jim/Sam season 4. The Jim/Sam eps even had rating over 11-12 million so don’t knock that season. I LOVED it and WISHED it ended there. This seasin lost viewers cos of the kid storyline etc. Anyway Abc are so stupid, it is so hard to build a new audience and this would have been perfect for Fridays. At least a 13 episode arc would have been a good run to see how it does. Abc, goodluck with the Alias reboot, as if that will work!
Why is it that networks need to “reboot” old series when they have perfectly good ones to take over? I completely agree on the Alias reboot. Has it even been 10 years yet? One would think a network would wait at least that long before trying to bring something out of the old vault. All the money ABC will be spending on that could have been put to good use casting a better “son” for Melinda and Jim and continuing a series that millions of fans have come to love.
