After some encouraging early signs out of ABC following CBS’ cancellation of Ghost Whisperer last week, I hear the financial aspect of ABC picking up the veteran drama starring Jennifer Love Hewitt ultimately could not be worked out. (The show is owned 50/50 by ABC Studios and CBS Studios.) Ghost Whisperer executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander just issued the following statement:
“After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
Ghost Whisperer is one of two cancelled CBS series that has been looking for a new life on ABC, along with comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine. I hear the chances of Old Christine don’t look good either but the producers are expected to make one last effort to make a deal with the network.

Are you kidding me? I have been watching that show since the first episode. I have grown up with Jenifer Love Hewitt. I didn’t enjoy it when you killed Jim off, but I still watched it, they had a bond that could not be denied. They where great together.
I will miss those two..Every week I could look forward to seeing, while my wife watched for the sappy story, to seeing my favorite pair on television.
This is far worse than her starting to wear turtlenecks or something and denying me this visual, she and her breasts won’t be on each week now

Please do not try to cancel it by all means try to deliver a sixth season, I do not understand how they can cancel a series that is leading a hearing on Friday in the U.S., if you see social networks, you will see that there was a stir in both facebook and other networks to save this fantastic series.

I agree with everyone who’s saying that the ratings stunt of killing Jim and then just forgetting about it was a major blow to this series. Wish TV creators would understand that a short term bump in ratings does not help a show in the long term – especially when it’s killing off a major character. Daytime dramas do this all the time and wonder why they’ve lost their audience. I think it’s as simple as: if we as viewers can’t trust you as a storyteller, I’ll go to another storyteller. Simple as that.
And I know we creative types are supposed be out on the town on Friday night whooping it up but frankly I love being home on a Friday night and leaving the carousing to the amateurs. I was thrilled when GW, Medium and Betty were all on Friday night – but I also recognize that I’m in the minority (ratings prove this!). Still, it’s better than what I used to be doing on a Friday night – catching up on all my shows from the previous week.

The first two seasons were the best, it was downhill after that IMHO. Should be easy to start another ghost show – or just watch Medium.
There goes my Friday night. I used to love it. Ghost Whisperer, then I even started getting into Medium – they always struggled with that middle show – and then cap it off with Numb3rs. What a disappointment. Guess I’ll have to find a new network line up. Whatever CBS pairs with Medium won’t be enough of a draw. They’ve probably killed that show too.
I’m so freaking upset! Fist CBS goes brain-dead and cancelled the best show they have on Friday nights…my beloved Ghost Whisperer. Then, we get the encouraging news that ABC is “smarter” than CBS and they are going to pick up the show. Now, we discover that ABC is just as ridiculous as CBS and is not picking up the show. I give up! I might as well cancel my cable T.V.
There are other networks out there. Maybe some network with half a brain will pick up Ghost Whisperer! Surely there is a shred of an intelligent network that wants to increase their viewing audience. Apparently ABC and CBS lost their minds!
Nielsen boxes? Please! As if you can judge a show based on stupid Nielsen boxes. Unless every single television viewer in the world has one of those freaking infamous boxes, how do you know how many people are watching? I don’t have a Nielsen box. I am a faithful viewer of Ghost Whisperer. I have many friends who also don’t have those stupid boxes and watch Ghost Whisperer. How unjustifiable to cancel a show based on Nielsen boxes!
I give up on ABC and CBS. Unless another network is smart enough to give Ghost Whisperer a slot..then I’m going to increase my business at Red Box and Netflix. I’ll just watch movies and give up network TV. (Well, except for Supernatural…which I’ve heard conflicting accounts on whether it’s been picked up for another season also).
Can’t the Sci Fi channel pick up Ghost Whisperer? It would be perfect and they could get rid of those constant and annoying reptile movies! Also some of the stargate ones as well!

Sci fi already shows the reruns along with the we channle and ion witch is the best i have all the episodes recorded on my tv.
Ghost Whisperer was must-see in our household the first couple of seasons. We lost some enthusiasm when Andrea died, loved her character. The Jim/Sam storyline lost me. I quit then. My hubs hung in until Eli and the kid took over, then he bailed, too. No surprise to us at all that it’s gone.
why don’t they move it to new mexico or Louisiana and get the tax incentives from those states? That would save money

I am really upset that ABC will not be picking up Ghost Whisperer. The show was a wonderful show and I am so upset that it was not given more respect. ABC I can say, honestly, you have let a LOT of people down.
i think the hard part is that when you watch your favorite shows, they become kind of like your friends. it is the same reason i like series books that have the same character. each book is like a visit with a friend. so it is with my favorite tv shows and i think that’s how a lot of people feel. i love ghost whisper and i am going to really miss my weekly visit with those people. yes, the story line went south, but they’re still my “friends.” i have a penchant for liking quirky tv shows, so i have to deal with them getting canceled. i really make an effort to watch the popular ones so i won’t have to worry about them getting canceled (maybe).
If ABC couldn’t make the numbers work there’s no way a cable channel can make it work! Just look at what John Wells is going through with Southland at TNT…

I barely started watchin the freakin show and i fall in love wit jim and watchin all the seasons and find out it got cancelled cbs is …. And abc u should knw u would get profit from the following gw is the best show ever dvr every show and my fiance watches it wit me come on!!!!!! The show must go on

Wow! I feel in love with the show a few months back. I recently discovered that they have been showing repeats of this great show on ION Television I have watched the beginning and followed it up until the last episode.
This breaks my heart. I loved the show. Please someone pick it up, and bring this show back to life.

Ghost Whisperer was better than Medium. Even if the GW stories were not as good as prior seasons, at least Melinda’s body is not being taken over in nearly every episode by ‘evil dead ones’. I am sick of Medium and the only reason I watched it was because it came after Ghost Whisperer. Since GW has been canceled, I won’t bother to watch Medium anymore and I think CBS will find that a lot of other people feel the same. CBS enjoy your ratings going into the tank!
I think an awful lot of so-called Ghost Whisperer fans didn’t understand anything at season 4 : the writers took a BIG risk and it paid off. More than 10 million viewers followed the whole Jim/Sam storyline. It doesn’t make sense ?! Please !! If anything, it only stayed faithfull to the heart of the show : Melinda & Jim’s love for each other ! How can one pretend being fan of a show one episode and then passionately hating it the following one ? CBS and ABC will both lose on fridays next season : Medium (way too dark and violent for the 8 p.m. time slot) will fall apart and drag the whole night down ; and Body of Proof, with its “wonderful” lead-in, will be D.O.A. I know it’s too late, our beloved show is dead now, but I truly hope CBS and ABC will remember the day they let it die for years to come.
CBS must have some really stupid executives! If they were smart, they would never have given a thought to canceling Ghost Whisperer. If it weren’t for The Mentalist, I would rarely watch CBS. I don’t know why they thought it was a smart move to cancel the show. It seems like they keep on making stupid moves all the time. I just hope that CBS doesn’t make any more stupid moves like that. To CBS Executives: You have to be some of the dumbest people I know!
