I hear CBS may break away from its tradition of picking up all of its new series on the Monday of upfront week this year and greenlight the Chuck Lorre-produced new comedy Mike & Molly later this week. It’s not that a series pickup for the pilot would shock anyone. The comedy about an overweight couple and their friends written by Mark Roberts and directed by James Burrows has been the clear frontrunner at the network through table read, filming, testing and screenings. CBS is said to have a very short window to pick up the comedy or release it so producer Warner Bros. can shop it elsewhere. It’s safe to say the latter won’t happen.

Unless massive rewrites have happened since I read the shooting script (highly possible), this saddens me… not because I’m against this series, but (much like with Hitched) I’m not sure the series is worth a darn. Comedies are supposed to be funny, folks, and no matter whose names are attached this script was more Blah than wow. Just my two cents.
Lovely! Another series for Chuck Lorre—the angriest, nastiest, most vindictive man working it television today.
I heard Chuck is fighting with CBS for them to put his name on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER so that he can finally have an entire Monday night line-up. None of which he’s actually written.
With all that success and validation he remains thin skinned and insecure about his talent.

Great, another hit from the brilliant minds behind “geeks trying to f a hot chick” and “crass old men talking about sex in front of a kid.” really looking forward to “bitter fat people.”
Saw the taping of “Mike and Molley” Funny,Sweet and Touching but most of all Funny. Not at all what you might think.
This could be the biggest hit of the year. OK, I just couldn’t help myself.
Glad you liked it Charles cause we had a great time working on the pilot….and since you were part of that wonderful audience who gave us great energy and appplause that evening at Warner Bros…Thank you. We knew it was funny…but it’s great to hear an audience enjoy the show. It just helps to reaffirm what one already knows.
I had a good friend who got a callback for her audition for Molly, and she seemed to enjoy the pacing of the revised pilot script. There’s no doubt this will be picked up, but at this point they should just wait until next week to announce it. What would less than 7 days do if they announced it now?
Are Travis Doss and Charles Gadda still attached, TVguy?
hey tv guy, suck it. The only comedy that deserves an early pickup is Keep Hope Alive over at Fox. So yeah! Oh and Bleep My Dad Says and Friends With Benefits. I want to see all those go forward. Turned out great.
Anyone who has seen Melissa McCarthy at the Groundlings knows she is a brilliant comedic actress… So excited she’s finally getting her due.
So, let me understand this; Mike and Molly is different from every other sitcom with an overweight guy, because this time they made the wife overweight, too? You mean she isn’t some skinny hot perfect wife? You mean they look more like Roseanne and Dan? Oh, wow, can’t wait for this revolutionary concept. [/sarcasm]
Well, she’s not his wife…yet. It’ll be about their journey, I suppose. The script I read was mediocre; definitely not on par with the greatness of Big Bang Theory. I can’t stomach Two and a Half Men, so I can’t really compare…
if only so i could get three of his production vanity cards a night, please give the man a third show. his last night was brilliant
Does anyone honestly believe CBS wouldn’t pick this up? It’s produced by Chuck Lorre – the man who saved Comedy on CBS!
Great, another Chuck Lorre show. Just what America needs. Another tired, mediocre show with no story and lame dick jokes.
I was in on a punch up on this — It’s very good. They’re really going for funny, character-driven moments. All of the characters are very likeable and grounded and funny. No jokes for joke-sake. The kinda thing I like, but that’s me.
2 words about why this show should be picked up – Billy Gardell! Billy was funny as hell in the short lived but amazing series “Lucky” on FX and I know will kill it as “Mike.” Have seen Billy do his stand-up many times and think he’s truly one of the REAL funny people out there. very Gleason-esque and I do not say that lightly. Hope it gets picked up immediately… GO BILLY!
“I have made so many tragically boneheaded mistakes, and most come from fear – fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of not being well regarded, fear of being foolish…the infinite variations of fear that cause poor thinking and even worse behavior – I’ve been guilty of them all….All I can do is recognize that and try to be a better person.” Chuck Lorre
Yeah, juxtapose that with every self-important, self-indulgent, whiny, bitchy, condescending vanity card he takes the time to write for every POS show he produces.
Come on, hasn’t Lorre ruined TV enough?
Billy Gardell (Mike) is a very funny comedic actor. I loved him in that show Lucky. He made the pilot script funny…
Does anyone have access to a script? Would love to read.
