Is a match-up between action icons Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel in the works for the next installment of The Fast and the Furious? Sources tell me it’s not a done deal but that Johnson is eyeing a starring role in Fast & Furious 5. He’s already in driving mode on the CBS Films revenge drama Faster, and here, it appears Johnson’s character will be on the right side of the law. Fast & Furious 4 reinvigorated the franchise with a $155M domestic haul.

WHAT. THE. HELL. What kind of a LAME A** move is this? Wow, Universal, sunk to a whole new low. Don’t get me wrong Johnson has his place, as does Diesel, but together? Maybe in another project, but NOT the Fast & Furious franchise. This franchise is the ONE good thing Universal has going for it right now and they’re going to ruin it with some ridiculously silly nonsense like throwing two guys with similar looks and competing careers in a franchise that already has an established fan base who care more about seeing the ORIGINAL cast (including, and especially, the supposedly deceased Michelle Rodriguez character) than seeing some pathetic gimmick.
Wake up Universal. Make a 5th film with Diesel, Rodriguez, Walker, and Brewster. Give the people want they want. Don’t be stupid. Don’t let go of what works and fill it with gimmicks. Good grief. Don’t you WANT to make MONEY?!

I’m not sure what there really is too complain about in regards to this series, since outside of the average first film the rest have been straight car porn with absolutely terrible writing. I will admit hiring Rock hints at Universal being desperate to bank all they can squeeze out of audiences
You CAN NOT use dwane johnson as a replacement for Vin Deisel it just doesnt work that way its been four movies and the rock cant be thrown into it unless vin is in it too!!!!

with Mr. Johnson have some limitatations on immediate future rolls once Faster was completed. It would have been strange to see Al Pacino blast away a dirty cop and mobster in one movie, turn around, and be a cop so soon. It is not corporate censorship it corporate protection…just stupid
I HOPE this is a joke. No offense to Dwyane but COME ON. The fans want the ORIGINAL CAST BACK, original meaning Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster. Why do you think the previous film was so successful? Again, I hope this is a joke. Come ON Universal, get it together!

I would like to see a F&F with Johnson. Also, as much as I like Michelle Rodriguez and wish she hadn’t died in the last movie, I hope they don’t bring her back in the next one. 95% of the time they bring back a dead character from a previous movie I hate it.
The Rock’s number one priority should be getting together with Shane Black for that DOC SAVAGE movie.Seriously.They NEED each other for this; Johnson’s charm would humanise the larger-than-life character, and the proto-INDIANA JONES globetrotting adventure would (in the hands of a sharp guy like Black) be ideal summer blockbuster material.

This franchise is so last decade. They tried to breathe life into it, but the last F&F was lame, which is too bad because the original F&F was pretty good.
@MacGuffin – oh yes, it’s so lame that it earned 155 mil. just in the US, 320 mil. altogether and over 40 mil. on DVD with 85 mil. budget. Pft, yeah, lame chicken *snorts*
And of course they need to add a new character – Dom and Brian will be on the run, they have to have someone on their heels. Running from cops in general would be pretty lame, there needs to be someone leading them.
I think that Dwayne will be great. Someone who won’t look tiny next to the muscle-bound Vin Diesel.

Am I the only one who kind of liked SOUTHLAND TALES. Not great, don’t get me wrong, but I liked the big ideas Kelly was going for and I thought Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson worked in that film in the same way Mark Wahlberg works in BOOGIE NIGHTS (which is of course a much better film).
Can’t wait to see him and Vin Diesel face off.
And…. wait for it…. wait for it… it’ll be in 3D!

The Rock is a solid actor. He is undeniably charming. He has a gift for comedy and self-effacing humor (as evidenced by his SNL appearances). That said, the dude doesn’t sell tickets like a movie star. The Rock does make FF5 more interesting though, but the joke is clearly on CBS films for thinking FASTER has any box office potential.
I don’t care who they add to the cast. Short and sweet: If Jordana Brewster isn’t in the fifth film, I’m not seeing it. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Killing Michelle was the biggest mistake they made. As much as I would love to see Letty again, there’s no way to do it without being just plain…lame. So, no Brewster, no movie.
HELL NO! hope universal was smart enough to give the rock a scale plus ten offer as he needs a JOB!!!!
