Flight of the Conchords stars Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie declined to return for a 3rd season of the HBO series, but they have been touring around the world and selling out most venues. Which bodes well for Jermaine now that he’s tuning up to play the villainous Yaz in Men in Black III, the sequel that is being fast-tracked by Columbia Pictures. Will Smith stars with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, and Barry Sonnenfeld directs. Clement will next be seen co-starring with Steve Carell in Dinner For Schmucks, the Jay Roach-directed DreamWorks comedy that Paramount distributes July 23. Both films are produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who saw what work Clement was doing on Schmucks and lobbied for him to join MIB3.

the idea seemed fresher when it was Clement and Cohen starring.
I hope this means this movie won’t suck. I love Jemaine, but Men in Black II sucked, so hopefully this one will do Jemaine’s talent justice.
PS: HBO did renew the show, but the guys chose not to do another season.
Lauren,
The biggest villain should be the screenwriter. We didn’t need II we certainly don’t need III. Yes, we all know they chose not to do the show. Jemaine is awesome. This is a payday for him. Nothing more. If you want these movies not to be made, don’t see them. That’s how you can make a real change.
Thank you.
That’s ridiculously insulting to Jemaine. You’re basically saying that because you have no interest in seeing the movie, he’s going to be mailing in his performance. Based on some of those clunky “Flight of the Conchords” scripts (the show has moments of greatness, but some real moments of awful), I’d say that he’s not going to mail in anything. To say it’s “just a paycheck” demeans his effort based solely on your taste. The world doesn’t revolve around you.
anhonestanswer.com,
You and that other tool “Furious D” REALLY need to go away.
Thank you.
You can’t pretend to know the motivations of Jemaine. Saying it’s just a paycheck is an assumption. You don’t know what you are talking about, shut the hell up.
Just FYI: HBO did offer them another series but they decided not to do another one.
Thanks for this great news!
Um, HBO didn’t renew their series because Jemaine and Bret didn’t WANT to do the series any more! I’m pretty sure HBO would have been glad to have them back for a third season.
Good confirmation. First rumored back in March: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/19388
he was super awesome in gentlmen broncos which was a bit of a dud overall.
I’m glad for Jemaine. He was the only bright spot of Gentlemen Broncos, and hopefully MiB3 is funnier than 2.
Wow, this is an interesting turn. Love Jemaine almost inappropriately.
Wondering if they’ll try to work in a Goldblum cameo, considering the resemblance (and his Will-connection).
Talented dude, but this sounds like a weakass, tired threequel that nobody actually asked for. I dunno, are there hordes of people out there who have such fond memories of the last one that they’re counting down the days until the next Men in Black movie?
Men In Black: Budget = $90 million, Worldwide gross = $589,390,539
Men In Black 2: Budget = $140 million,Worldwide gross = $441,818,803
I think those totals mean a 3rd is justified.
Oh Jemaine, no…please, say it’s a lie…
The Men In Black movies were great fun. It’s nice to see that they are
doing another.
Love it!
Thank you.
Will Smith is the only actor who could work for the next 20 years just on sequels to his hit films. If the new Karate Kid takes off, that’s one less kid he has to provide for. Go Will.
Genius Move. That is what movie making is all about in pre production. Great producers pulling together material and then casting great actors. The relationship with Mr. Sonnenfeld and PM goes way back. You may not have liked 2 as much as 1, but 3 with these film makers I am sure will be great Will Smith took alot of time making up his mind to do it again. He is no fool. Barry will bring the pieces together combined with the talents of Bo Welch this will be one fun ride….can”t wait.
Great news! Heres a great premise for a MIB film. Full scale world invasion by UFO’s, then after the battle is over, how to Neuralize the world population. Will it be a death-star type secret weapon that flashes the world or something hidden in every 3D TV set.
…
People get payed for this sort of thinking. Giz a job hollywood!
As long as he’s not deadpan the ENTIRE time. Hey pony, let’s see a new trick!
Re : those box office numbers posted above. I see there that the second MIB cost $50 mil more than the first one, and earned about $150 mil less. Is that really an indication of big demand for a third one? And nine years after the last one? (Let me guess, it’s going to be in 3D too, so they can charge more!)
Whatever you think of both movies they were made in the great State of California. MIB3 goes to NY for the tax incentive. Sad that the studio thinks in those terms. Considering that the overall $ amount is really miniscule to the bottom line, and the 7 fold turnaround of a dollar spent in California goes along way for the schools, mortgages, health care, for employees not just making the movie, but those that work or did work at Sony before being fired. Who actually makes that decision to go? Is it a guy without kids, a studio prez with ice water in her veins? Does Steven really need that much more or is Will oblivious before he signs the dotted line. We have a city falling apart laying off employees
furloughing teachers and stopping services. Sony is part of a community and they dont all live in Culver City. Amy Pascal has made a nice life for herself. I dont think Sir Howard would give a shit where they made the movie really. Think of the value in saying we decided to stay in California and due are fair share to help,
This movie is clearly going to suck but I’m glad Germaine’s in it.
