The newly picked up ABC legal drama The Whole Truth has lost its lead. Joely Richardson has departed the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama, written by Tom Donaghy. Sources close to producing studio WBTV said that the former Nip/Tuck star asked to be released so she can spend more time with her family. The studio already moved production on the project from Los Angeles to New York to accommodate Richardson. The Whole Truth, which has Rob Morrow as the male lead, employs an alternating narrative structure, which shows both the defense and prosecution sides.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Before the inevitable rush to judgment, remember that she’s lost both her sister and her aunt in the space of a year.
Warner Bros moves an entire production to NY leaving jobs here in LA so the actress cab quit and go home by town car and not an airplane. There is no shame no moral backbone no nothing in this town that says conduct business on some reasonable grounds of fairness. As far as the actress is concerned, I hope she is ok and her reasons for leaving are justified. And they arent for something like, I just changed my mind. Sony greenlights MIB 3 with the stipulation it films in NY because of the tax incentive. Will Smith with all his good guy bravado and down to earth home boy image can’t say split the difference and let’s all stay home with our families. How much in the overall “pot of gold” MIB has been that Sony, SpielbergSmith, Jones, producers and directors just can’t sleep at night and make the movie here and split the money the studio should get.
Amy Pascal has had a pretty good life in the film business in LA.
Can’t they just stop take a breath and say u know what that is not right-do it here. Two years of production gone to NY because they are willing to burden the taxpayers of NY with a tax incentive while their state goes in the red.
the whole truth did not shoot in NY moron
You tell ‘em ‘Hey!
Warner Bros. and Bruckheimer try to accommodate some wack-job actress, and California has to lay-off 3 teachers, 1 firefighter, 5 cops + your psychiatrist because of it.
There oughta be a law forbidding such mercenary business practices (and Will Smith movies).
Where’s the petition??????
I loved this show… when it was called Raising the Bar.
then why’d she sign up for a pilot? unbelievable
She did not know she would suffer these kind of losses. Come on.
I think you mean “alternating” narrative structure i.e. the POV switches from the prosecution to the defense. Not much “alternative” about it.
Not just her sister & aunt, but also her uncle.
“then why’d she sign up for a pilot? unbelievable”
Corin and Lynn Redgrave passed away recently (April & May), ie. after she signed up.
Lynn didn’t miss-a-beat when here niece died (check her IMdB for ’09). Natasha’s death, though sad, was hardly a tragedy. Dying for a hobby is kinda, well, silly.
Wow, you’re an idiot.
It’s not a tragedy to get killed after a minor fall on the bunny slope? It’s not a tragedy for a loving wife and mother of two young boys to get killed during a fun vacation? It’s not a tragedy for someone who is beloved by her friends and peers to get killed in the middle of her life?
What kind of heartless world do you live in?
Sad, not a tragedy. Next, you’ll be calling her a “hero”.
You sound more foolish with each post. Spare us.
“…bunny slope… …killed… …fun vacation?”
Who’s foolish…?
“The Whole Truth” pilot was filmed in LA. When Joely came on board it was with the proviso that if it got picked up it would film in NYC. Now that she has departed the series, the location will likely depend on the home base of the actor who replaces her.
On the other hand, the pilot of “Justified” was shot in Pittsburgh and Miami. The series is shooting in Los Angeles because when Tim Olyphant came on board it was with the proviso it shoot in Los Angeles — his home. Do you hear the Pittsburgh production community whining?
No one wants to live/work in Pittsburgh or Miami — no matter how Justified it may be.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh was just rated the most livable city in the country. It’s also got a killer theater scene and amazing possibilities for studio space.
I’d be looking at the possibilities.
I’ll pass. But I strongly encourage everyone to reroute from Los Angeles [The City of, being ten times the land area and eleven times the population of P'burgh] and getcha a piece of that “Most Livable City” asap!
We’ll check back after a few years of mass-migration to see how things are coming along…
Well now they can move production back to L.A.
Does it really matter? it will wind up like “The Forgotten”
good i don’t want to see rob morrow and joely richardson get it on anyway. Rob Morrow is pretty good in whatever he does and i like the fact that she was age appropriate for the male lead, but these two look weird together to me.
Actors and Actresses quit shows all the times due to wanting to do other projects or having something come up with family . for at least Joely was nice enough to inform warner brothers so they had the time to find a replacement she could have stayed on the show and then quit without telling any one and caused warner brothers to have to scramble with a replacement. at least she let them know right away.
How about you don’t take or audition for a job when you aren’t able to commit to it, emotionally or otherwise? What’s going to happen to the pilot now? All those people who worked their asses off on it and now it wont make it to air? She should have made that decision to take time off after she lost her sister, not now, after she goes out and books this job when people’s livelihood’s are depending on this.
Anonymous- Pilots recast lead actors ALL THE TIME. Sometimes networks don’t like how an actor works out, sometimes the actor’s previous series gets picked up and then they have to reshoot the scenes with another actor. It’s called LIFE… things happen and people change their minds. Definitely a class move on her part to make this decision NOW… and not say at the end of the summer after 9-12 episodes in.
I was looking forward to seeing her too. Oh, well, I had the same thought others did. She’s last her sister, uncle and aunt in the course of 14 months. That must be hard on her mother, she probably wants to make sure she’s there for her.
Find someone else to play her part! The show premise & the male conterpart is terrific!
