It does seem that NBC always keeps fumbling. So I’m not sure which is funnier this morning: that NBC didn’t have any security keeping journalists away from its tech rehearsal at a NYC Hilton hotel. Or that The Hollywood Reporter just revealed bits and pieces of NBC’s upfront presentation – from the 2010-2011 schedule (Deadline TV’s analysis here) to Alec Baldwin’s taped comic intro (as his 30 Rock character Jack Donaghy praising advertisers as “the bright shining sun in our money universe”), to Entertainment President Angela Bromstad’s strategy speech, to Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin acknowledging that the network has made some mistakes this season but is moving on with a stronger new slate, to even the pre-prepared jokes.
Both reporter James Hibberd and NBC have confirmed that he obtained this info by sneaking into the network’s upfront presentation rehearsal. No executives were there, but it didn’t matter: the run-through script was unveiled. Wrote Hibberd about what he heard: “Gaspin also jokes that having this year’s NBC upfront at a Hilton hotel instead of a posh theater allows him to gain some Hilton Honors rewards points. The downside to having an upfront at the Hilton is it makes it easier for a reporter to crash your upfront’s tech rehearsal.” The result is that a pissed-off NBC has banned THR from covering the network’s upfront or interviews or calls. (This is the 2nd time that NBC has iced THR recently.)
Meanwhile, insiders have confirmed to me that the following NBC schedule is accurate barring any last-minute changes before it’s officially released at 5 PM ET. It consists of an action-adventure Monday night, a crime drama Wednesday night, and an all-comedy Thursday night. The new sitcom Outsourced replaces Parks & Recreation which shifts to midseason along with new comedies. Despite expectations, NBC did not launch a new comedy block in addition to Thursday although Bromstad will say the network was tempted. ”But ultimately we decided [Thursday is] where our audience expects them.”

In addition to Parks & Rec having been renewed so was The Marriage Ref also not on the schedule unless it is coming back on Sundays.
What happened to “The Cape”?? It’s reported as being picked up for Fall, but it’s not on this schedule. Mid-season is not Fall….
at least NBC can still announce mideason, the new home of Parks & Recreation, along with a few of the new shows.
Parks and Rec people… Try reading the article before posting…
“The new sitcom Outsourced replaces Parks & Recreation which shifts to midseason along with new comedies.”
I’ll 5,546th that Parks and Rec thing.
You’re missing part of the story: NBC had agreed to give the schedule early to reporters, but under embargo. THR agreed to that embargo, but then went out of its way to break it. That’s gutsy, but that’s also screwing over a source you had a promise with.
NBC continues its dive.

Parks and Rec is returning mid-season. Bummer. I like that show.
So basically, NBC just pulled a Steve Jobs. Funny how people only get upset about Apple’s business practices when anyone other then Apple employs them.
Looking forward to see Jesse Metcalfe in an non-sexy Gardner type role but more of a rugged action type role that’s shirteless only every other week.
nbc simply has no confidence in their midseason comedies. i wouldn’t be surprised if they never showed those shows to begin with period. zucker, gaspin and bromstad should be fired.
This isn’t Watergate. If NBC asks you to embargo something you do it ( especially when you need them more than they need you ). Bush league move THR. Well unless it turns out Hibberd is using this piece to score a seat at the TMZ table.. then kudos
i love the Hollywood Reporter trying to get all Woodward And Bernstein and sneak into tech rehearsals etc. Hey if you want to be real thorough, please report who at NBC or Hilton Hotels got fired because of this security breach.
I dislike the execs at NBC as much as the next guy, but is it just me, or has The Hollywood Reporter gotten sleazy as of late? Between this and some of the opinion pieces they’ve run lately, I have lost the little bit of respect I had for the trade.
Hello people, you’re missing the REAL story here: Hibberd broke his employers (THR) promise to NBC to embargo the schedule until just before NBC’s Upfront. NBC (and other nets) does this as a favor to press so they can have time to write the story. Fellow journos should be pissed at Hibberd for making NBC and others less likely to trust or give early access.
Does it really matter that THR got banned? What’s to stop them now from picking up AdWeek or MediaWeek stories and posting them there. They all share content, so it’s really no loss for THR.
Where is Friday Night Lights — THE best show on TV, with Parenthood.
It still amazes me, as a professional and also as a viewer, that the networks have given up on original programming on Saturday and Sunday. No wonder viewership is down. No wonder Law & Order is gone. I always knew that if I missed the L&O the first time around I could catch it on Saturday night. What’s NBC going to do on Saturday nights now? Show reruns of Bonanza and Gunsmoke? Rebroadcast the original Rockford Files? The Best of Carson?
