UPDATE: I toldja there were 3 ways NBC was going to go, and we’d know as soon as today if series cancellation was the option chosen, and it’s now official. But NBC sources now tell me that the network is “working on a way to wrap up the show. That will be determined after the upfront.” Other insiders explain to me that NBC will soon commit to that 2-hour or 4-hour special event in midseason to reward Heroes fans. Oh, wow, I love that show. Such imagination and creative writing and so much hard work. NBC what is wrong, why are you cancelling it?
I guess NBC assumes they will need a night or two of programming sometime midseason to fill in for whichever new series tank so horribly that even wretched numbers like Heroes brought in will seem like an improvement.
…actually, that’s a fair assumption on their part. Good luck to them.
Don’t get your hopes up, “Heroes” fan(s). HBO said “Deadwood” would be getting a wrapup TV movie after its cancellation. I’ve finished holding my breath.
To us Hero Fans. We’ll miss this series tremendously. Made my Mondays. You know a series is good when you look forward to coming home to sitting in front of your tube to see what happens next.
Most series on TV is getting cancelled. All I see being air’d now is Reality Shows. All a bunch of crap. Why do people watch reality shows. Why watch reality, get off your couch and walk outside.. Thats reality for you. You watch television to get away from reality. Yet for some found dumb reason , Reality shows are the most watch show on Television. What has the world come to ????
While its true that the first season was the best, I still like the show. They would need to get new writers good storylines have left a lot to be disired. Many people stopped watching because it was looking like everybody was getting a super power. With HEROES gone there will only be two shows I will care to watch on network TV. SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL and I’ve been hearing that SMALLVILLE doesn’t have long before its canceled too. Boo to NBC for letting a good show turn to crap.
to piggy back on that, its treu the first seeason was the best was because Jeff Loeb scribed it. afterwards watever aholes took over ruined a good thing. I always say if it’s a comic book story let comic book story writers keep writing it i’ll miss heroes( moment of silence please ).
Well, though Heroes never lived up to expectations after season 1, which was absolutely a-m-a-z-i-n-g, it still was a good show.
lets face it Season 4 was shit and that ending was a bunch of crap also
For those of you questioning why NBC did this, it’s quite simple. NBC is having really serious financial problems. And their ratings are at a pretty serious low.
Heroes lost 10 *million* viewers over the course of its four year run (about 14 million to 4 million) and it was a horribly expensive show to produce. That’s a 70% drop in viewership. It could have been the best written show NBC had (it wasn’t even close) and they still would have pulled the plug because it was hemorrhaging money and viewers. This was a no brainer and for once was a smart move by NBC.
Heroes fans not to worry NBC has let the scifi channel play espisodes in the past. So now scifi can add another epic failure to its repertior. Not so sorry to see heroes go. The first two chapters were incredible, but you can’t change a story line four or five times and expect to keep your fan base. The producers should have kept the original writters happy, if they did we wouldn’t commenting on this now.
I don’t see why they should waste time or money on a ‘wrap-up’.
With bad decisions like bringing back Mrs. Parkman (can’t remember her name, she’s that boring), Ali Larter still being on the show, the pointless twins, the stupid ‘Claire-at-college’ and carnival storylines, Hiro’s aimless wandering about in ancient Japan…with all THOSE bad decisions, does anyone honestly think they would be able to choose the right things to say and do in a ‘wrap-up’? We’d probably end up with two hours explaining how Mr and Mrs Parkman lived happily ever after (and listing the groceries they bought for a bit of added drama) with special guest appearance by that fan-favourite, Maya. Oh, and another clone for Ali Larter to play.
If (big if, says another bitter DEADWOOD fan) they do a finale event, it better include bringing Nathan Petrelli back to life. That was some bull right there, killing him.
Course, since that’s the only thing I want out of a series finale, I’m sure Tim Kring would make sure not to, as is typical of him. Hey Tim, maybe try not killing your most popular characters on your next show. Just a thought, pal.
You have to remember it is not always the creator/writer’s fault that a charactor gets AX’ed. I might be wrong on this but I think Pasdar wanted to leave.
I don’t understand why NBC was expecting the number of viewers to remain the same each season… because Heroes is one of those shows that if you miss one or two episodes you’re completely lost. so of course the number of viewers would go down, simply because once people would miss something, it’s hard to catch up again. And I disagree with everyone who says the writing of Heroes is bad. I loved the show, it was epic, and you never knew what to expect next. I thought it was amazing, and I’m disappointed that they canceled the show.
I wanted Heroes to succeed. Season 1 was awesome, but, like Veronica Mars, the creator and writers were lost. Heroes was about heroes, not fugitives on the run. It should have been more X-Men and less the Incredible Hulk. What a waste of talent and time. The possibilities were endless, but the reality was pedestrian.
Such Bittersweet news. I am SO glad this show is FINALLY cancelled. But having to deal with a possible 2 or 4 hour unnecessary wrap up (which they will screw up no less) is just unbearable. This show and my unfortunate need to watch it is like a bad, bad abusive relationship that you just can’t leave. Can this please be over and down with do i can burn the DVDs I wasted my money on already?
Actually I agree, them bringing Nathan/Pasdar back *is* the only way I would watch.
Not surprised by the cancellation news.
Ha, totally agree about them needing to bring Nathan back for this finale. Because ex-fan here, but having Pasdar back on there *would* get me watching a finale event and probably buying the damn DVD, and there’s no point pretending it wouldn’t.
Not surprised by the cancellation news. NBC? Next time it comes down to decision between keeping Bryan Fuller or Tim Kring? CHOOSE DIFFERENTLY.
everyone who wants heroes to stay on get a twitter account and start tweeting they listen to that the more they see its still wanted they will not cancel it im @frankbernardo
I LOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEDDDDDDDD Heroes when for the first season. However it started to spiral downward from Season 2 and thereafter. I still LOVE it but it doesn’t have the pizzaz it had in it’s first season.
Remember the same thing happened for Dark Angel and a great many other TV shows.
I will miss Heroes but remember “All Good Things Must Come To An End”. May it go to that Great Studio in the Skies. :”"”(
I LOVED the first season of Heroes, but I really didn’t mind the other seasons too badly, up until this last one.
I have no idea what they were thinking when they added this whole carnival thing into the plot. I’ve always been a huge fan, and I watched the show without missing an episode UNTIL this last season. I couldn’t bring myself a lot of times to watch it, and I probably haven’t seen an episode in a month or two, if not longer.
Killing off Nathan was a dumb executive move on their part, as he was a major player in the plot, and they never really expanded from the story without adding unless fluff. I hated that main characters weren’t getting much screen time, and I was shocked that they had Hiro running around doing nothing. When you have a 4th year running show, you should add new characters sure, but you also need to be sure to keep your original characters into the mix plenty. That is who we tune in to see!
I agree.. this season was kinda “eh”.. Once Silar got wimpy it kinda lost it for me.
Jim
Perhaps they just ran out of powers to give to Sylar.
4 Word Protest Idea:Send waffles to NBC.
i hope that days of our lives won’t leave nbc at all either and i love that show on the daytime soaps on channel 5 the nbc…
It amazes me how Nbc produces a show that is a complete hit and thousands of people wait anxiously to watch every Monday evening. They then cancel it??? Why so another stupid reality show can take it’s place… Wow complete outrage. NBC you suck!!!
… Don’t forget the incredible “Minute to Win it” ugh..
I guess they are trying to save money AND get ratings.. I don’t think the two go together anymore reality TV is kinda winding down besides the “Big Ones” (Survivor, Dancing, Idol, Amazing Race )and even they all are lower in ratings than before.
My Monday nights are gone from my DVR burning up from recording 4 shows 2 hours on 2 channels( for me it was Chuck, Heroes and House and 24 )
Jim
Save heroes save the world
The first season was one of the best series in my viewing history. But..a Big BUT.. after that it quickly became just one more run-of-the-mill teen angst crapola…Good Riddance!!
They should’ve kept Journeyman, and cancelled Heroes….
