UPDATE 6:10 PM: All six pilots, comedies Happy Endings, Better Together and Mr. Sunshine and dramas The Whole Truth, Detroit 187 and Generation Y are now confirmed.
UPDATE 5:15: Comedies Happy Endings, Better Together (formerly Unt. Shana Goldberg-Meehan) and Mr. Sunshine officially picked up so far. The trio, which had already been meeting with writers, join drama No Ordinary Family, which was picked by ABC yesterday.
According to multiple sources, dramas Detroit 187, The Whole Truth and Generation Y also have been picked up but those orders have not been confirmed by the network yet. I also hear the Debra Messing-starring comedy Wright vs. Wrong, which is looking for a showrunner, is still in contention. In addition to Wright vs. Wrong, other high-profile ABC pilots that didn’t get the nod today include the Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama Off the Map and the Dana Delany-starring procedural Body of Evidence. Refresh for latest…
PREVIOUS 4:55: Comedies Happy Endings and Better Together picked up at ABC.
Here is more info on the newly-picked up ABC series.
Written by David Caspe, Happy Endings, from Sony TV, revolves around a couple who breaks up at the altar and their group of friends who have to figure out how to maintain their relationships after the split. Jamie Tarses and Jonathan Goff are exec producing with Anthony Russo & Joe Russo who directed the pilot. Caspe is co-exec producing the show, whose cast includes Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, Damon Wayans, Jr., whose dad was a fixture on ABC with My Wife and Kids, and Casey Wilson.
Mr. Sunshine, also from Sony TV, was written by Matthew Perry, Alex Barnow & Mark Firek and stars Perry as a sports stadium manager who realizes on his 40th birthday that he cannot get by on his charming, funny, non-committal ways anymore. Having Perry as a lead of a series was obviously a huge draw (You can already see ABC’s marketing slogans: “ex-Friends Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox reunited on ABC”), but I hear Alison Janney is incredibly funny and has become the show’s scene stealer. Perry is executive producing with Thomas Schlamme, who directed the pilot, Barnow, Firek and Jamie Tarses. The cast of the show also includes Andrea Anders, James Lesure, Nate Torrence and Portia Doubleday.
Better Together, from Warner Bros. TV, written and exec produced by Goldberg-Meehan, is a romantic comedy about two couples, one in a very slow moving relationship, the other in a fast one. JoAnna Garcia, Jennifer Finnigan, Josh Cooke and Jake Lacy star in the series, whose pilot was directed by James Burrows, with Kurt Fuller and Debra Jo Rupp co-starring.
It’s been a happy last two days in the Goldberg-Meehan/Scott Silveri household. Yesterday, Goldberg-Meehan’s husband, Silveri got his comedy pilot with Jon Pollack Perfect Couples picked up to series by NBC. See more about the power couple of this pilots season.
Speaking of power couples, the Russo brothers also have landed two series orders in two days. The order for Happy Endings follows the series pickup by Fox yesterday of Running Wilde, which the two also directed. They also exec produce NBC’s Community after directing the pilot last year.

what about it takes a village?
i hear it’s getting picked up tomorrow and they’re passing on wright vs wrong
I was the property master on the pilot for ABC “It Takes A Villiage”. I noticed in the comments, Scoop says he heard it will be on the fall scheduele in place of Wright vs. Wrong. Any information would be so much appreciated. Thank you, Steven M Levine—
are these only the Fall pick-ups? there must be more coming for mid-season.
Shall I continue to assume that Happy Endings must be set in a massage parlor?
More Shana Goldberg-mediocre.
I hope Wright vs. Wrong will be picked up too.
I guess will pair Mr. Sunshine and Cougar Town on another night (maybe Tuesday?) and put the two new sitcoms on Wednesday.
ABC must be waiting to pick up all the good stuff tomorrow –
?what about the Dana Delaney pilot Body of proof?
Who in their right mind would cast show-killer Josh Cooke (“Committed,” “Four Kings,” “Big Day”) in ANOTHER show??? Unbelievable.
Well with Josh Cook in the cast, Better Together is already canceled. He’s a show killer…the new Christopher Gorahm/Paula Marshall.
I found “Off the map” interesting and a very good cast. I hope ABC picks up them.
I’m excited to see Matt Perry back on network TV. The script is funny, even though it’s pure Chandler. Allison Janey is great. Nice to see her back as well.
THe comedies were from other studios outside of ABC. The network has it’s own studio right? Aren’t all their comedies from outside studios? I think their two best comedies Modern Family and THe Middle are from Warnerbros.
ABC has ABC studios who are supposed to be working together. The two respective comedy heads don’t like each other so they won’t ever really work like NBC and NBCU or CBS and CBSP. Just my take, but they are both a bit ego driven and it will hurt both…studio more than network.
No word on Boston’s Finest? No news isn’t good news?
Hated Generation Y.
What’s the story with Awkward Situations For Men? Dead or Alive?
I was thinking along the same lines as previous comment – Mr. Sunshine and Cougar Town (with new show title?) on another night – my thinking, Thursday at 8 and 8:30 as lead in to Grey’s Anatomy. ABC needs something in that hour – comedy may do better in that slot (ie. Ugly Betty) than Sci-Fi (Flash Forward) or drama. Who better than ‘Friends’ alumni to try out some comedy on Thursday for ABC?
Hey, what news of Matadors on ABC? It was so hi-profile with David Strathairn and Avatar’s Stephen Lang no less. I can’t believe this show didn’t have a chance.
abc better pick up georgetown!
