UPDATE MONDAY 6:30AM Never underestimate the power of the Tom Selleck/CBS combo. I hear the family cop show Blue Bloods aka Reagan’s Law starring Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg tested through the roof and now appears likely to get a series pickup. Now Selleck will have a series and a movie franchise (Jesse Stone) on the network. BTW, the network is now starting to make its pickup calls I hear. Stay tuned.
UPDATE SUNDAY 8:30PM: I also hear Mad Love is in contention for midseason. One thing that is holding things up I hear is Lizzy Caplan, who was billed as guest star in the pilot and is yet to commit to stay on as a regular. I also hear that Gary Unmarried‘s renewal chances don’t look good. Meanwhile Ghost Whisperer is looking promising to return for another season, possibly paired again with Medium, whose pickup is pretty much wrapped up.
PREVIOUS SUNDAY 4PM: As usual, it’s radio silence out of CBS, which is expected to start picking up its new series tomorrow morning. But on the comedy side, Bleep My Dad Says is pretty much assured a series order, joining the recently picked up new Chuck Lorre comedy Mike & Molly. I hear another comedy pilot, Mad Love aka True Love, also remains in contention. I also hear Team Spitz is dead, and Livin’ on a Prayer is no longer a serious contender, at least for fall. The network’s final comedy scheduling plans hinge on the outcome of the New Adventures of Old Christine renewal negotiations with Warner Bros, which are still going on. But Warner Bros is also talking to ABC about moving the series. (Another veteran, the Sony-produced Rules of Engagement, still looks very good to return for its first full season in years.)
Drama-wise, Hawaii Five-O and Defenders’ orders seem a sure thing. Legal drama Defenders has already been making deals with writers, with former Without A Trace co-showrunner Greg Walker on board as showrunner. Remaining in contention are Chaos and the Criminal Minds spinoff I hear, with the John Wells-produced medical drama also a possibility, probably for midseason.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Any news on ATF/The Line?
I’d rather have Gary Unmarried than Old Christine but it looks like both it and Accidentally on Purpose are done.
Will be interesting to see how many comedies CBS has and where they put them all.
I think that Gary Unmarried should not be cancelled. It is very entertaining.
Thank you
Why is ‘New Adventures of Old Christine’ taking so long (or is it long) to negotiate?
Living on a Prayer turned out great, and the copy I saw was fuzzy. I can’t believe that won’t end up on the CBS schedule.
Nikki, why do you continue to overlooking Reagan’s Law? Tom Selleck police drama certainly feels more CBS than anything else you keep mentioning.
Nikki isn’t doing the posts. Why don’t you ask Nellie?
is “Mad Love” the show that was formerly called “True Love”? If so, I would love to see that show picked up because I love Minka Kelly.
yes same show. and it’s really good.
love her too, would love to see this show picked up
“I hear another comedy pilot, Mad Love aka True Love, also remains in contention.”
I’m rooting for Chaos – Criminal Minds spin-off was aptly named – Criminal.
CBS should renew Cold Case and give it at least 13 episodes.
Take all of this with a huge grain of salt. CBS is on complete lockdown until tomorrow.
What about the one Kristin Kreuk got bounced from – Hitched – w/ Sharon Lawrence?
Don’t tell me OPEN BOOKS shat the bed!
It’ll probably be “Stuff My Dad Says”; I’m interested in tomorrow because if CBS picks up True Love, then that’ll probably be the final nail in the coffin for any chance of a Party Down season 3 – that’s the one Lizzy Caplan’s a part of.
they’re not necessarily on the same shooting schedule. she could conceivably do both. lizzy caplan and Tyler Labine were both funny as hell in True Love.
I know they’re recasting/reshooting but Bleep My Father Says or whatever they’re calling it was terminally unfunny. Shatner’s delivery works on his cd’s, not on a sitcom. It was half as entertaining as Two and a Half Men. Seriously. Such a disappointment.
After the horrible demos Jesse Stone posted, I can’t image that Reagan’s Law would be picked up. (CC averaged almost twice the demo even with it’s bouncing between 10 and 9; the TR lead-in and football pushback.) TS is just not the draw.
Maybe not the demo, but it beat everything else in total viewers that night, including Desperate Housewives. Wahlberg will bring in the young crowd…Selleck the older group. Should be a great match.
Believe me, I’m not a fan of demo obsession, but isn’t that what advertisers pay for? My point is that CC is getting canned because of low demos, not total audience (aka WAT), I’m all for multigenerational hits — aka NCIS. Guess it looks like, it will get picked up.
Why have all postings about the CW completely disappeared? Is their lockdown even more impenetrable than CBS’?
HEY CBS……. COLD CASE ( Hello) KEEP IT ON THE AIR…… AT LEAST WRAP UP THE SERIES….. DON”T BE NBC…… do you really need a Criminal Minds spin – off — did you watch the pilot ?,,, SUCKED !!! Stop with the friggin spin offs….
what about gary unmarried? it’s not mentioned at all in the post…thanks!
Meduim or Ghoast Wisper?
I hear “Team Spitz” is definitely still in contention.
Has anyone heard anything about the status of THE ODDS?
The John Welles medical from WB is terrible. Great subject matter and terrible execution. CBS can’t tell a good medical from a bad.
You are so right. The Wells concept is horrible. Moonves picks one idiotic medical show after another. Wouldn’t know a good one if he saw it. And BTW, HMS at the CW is a fantastic show with a great young cast that could be the next Grey’s Anatomy. It’s tested through the roof. If he greenlights the Wells one and doesn’t green light that one, he has thrown away gold for dross.
Really? I loved that script. And the cast sounded really promising. I’m truly sad to hear it didn’t turn out well. I didn’t think the concept was horrible at all. HMS I thought was totally hokey. Ah well.
CBS should be renamed TBN: The Polident Network.
Where have you been? CBS has the second highest ratings in the 18-49 demo. Get a clue before commenting grandpa.
Livin on a Prayer was great stuff. Polished and ready. Shocked it’s not in the running still. Glad to see Mad Love still going. Tyler and Lizzie are phenom against each other.
Here’s to hoping Chaos is picked up. It seems like it has a strong cast (Freddy Rodriguez! Whoo-hoo!) and it sounds pretty interesting. Go Chaos!
I read the John Wells script, didn’t see it, but man was the script bad. Not even Sissy Spacek can save that awful mess.
I agree. It’s think it’s gonna suck.
Here’s to hoping we all have the pleasure of watching Forest Whitaker on network TV. Pilot aside, the potential is out of sight for an Academy Awarding winning actor on a spin off hit TV show.
