I hear NBC has ordered 6 episodes of Next, the Paul Reiser-written pilot that honcho Jeff Gaspin liked so much and that was considered an early frontrunner. (Having 7 backup scripts was an advantage too.) Reiser also stars in and executive produces. The last time Paul Reiser created a sitcom that was picked up by NBC, it was the major hit Mad About You and ran from 1992 all the way to 1999 on the network. So he’s back where he belongs.

NEXT? Hey, I have three shows called NEXT, if anybody wants to buy them!
who’s the showrunner?
what’s happening with larry charles’ “our show?”
has there been any word as to whether or not ‘our show’ has been picked up?
I thought this was dropped? Great for Reiser. I’m a huge fan. But only 6 episodes? Why not just do 13 and burn them off in the summer if it doesn’t perform? Then they’d still have dvd sales.
It must be a really good comedy then.
If it’s on NBC, it’s gotta be good! ew, I just threw up in my mouth a litte
That went well.
i heard this show is really funny…. it was good casting too…
Yay for Binghamton University (State University of New York) – both Gaspin and Reiser are two of the famous alums from the school. Glad to see public school grads helping each other out and for some state school success stories. Take note Obama and Supreme Court!
Hallelujah!!
(happy dance!)
rock on! excited to see it. from early frontrunner, to dark horse, to mini-pickup…. hope it works out well. congrats.
Next is a horrible title. I can only imagine the announcer saying, “Next coming up next,” or, “next Tuesday on Next.”
They need to change the title if only to differentiate from the trashy MTV dating show of the same name. If they want younger viewers to watch it, they will think 9/10 times of the MTV show.
This show is horrible – NBC – what were you thinking???
A. how do you know that its horrible?
B. Its not horrible…
Really? That’s not what other people say. Besides it’s being compared to Curb Your Enthusiasm. it tested really well.
this show is gonna make it big… the casting for this show was fantastic… especially the kids….
If 2 1/2 Men can do well, then this show can too!
Must be like going back to your high school only to find it was the victim of an atomic bombing. Good luck, Paul.
Good luck Paul. As a side note, you are barred from using the word “sweetie” ever again in anything you or Danny Jacobson writes or creates. You guys exhausted your lifetime limit the last time you were on TV.
I think this has the potential to be a big hit. This and Outsourced could be this years Modern Family.
Really “drew”? I’m curious where did you see it to make such a comment?
Great talent, good guy. Knows the business of making a series. Right move by Gaspin and his team.
I was in charge of the crew that handled bringing in the audiences at MAD ABOUT YOU tapings. Paul, hope this turns ut to be just as big a hit!
I saw the clips for this on NBC. It doesn’t look good. I didn’t laugh once. I didn’t smile once. I found him annoying. I like the man. I liked Mad about You. I don’t think the casting is very good. His friends and his wife seem dull. If he’s the straight man in the show, the people around him should be interesting.
