UPDATE 3:20 PM: The Matthew Broderick starrer Beach Lane pilot is now dead.
PREVIOUS 3 PM: NBC picked up romantic comedy Perfect Couples to series. It hails from UMS and writers Jon Pollack and Scott Silveri. Andy Ackerman directed the pilot. The pilot started making firm offers to writers yesterday. “Jon and Scott are hugely talented writer-producers and they’ve really delivered with Perfect Couples,” NBC’s scripted chief Angela Bromstad said. Perfect Couples chronicles the relationships of three couples.
It stars Kyle Howard, Christine Woods, Dave Walton, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Hayes MacArthur and Olivia Munn. Perfect Couples joins recently picked up new NBC series Chase, Undercovers, The Event, Love Bites, and Outsourced. With two new comedy series, Outsourced, and Perfect Couples, already ordered, NBC, which has renewed its entire two-hour Thursday comedy block, will certainly try to open a second block on Wednesday next season.

I’ve read some horrible things about Prfect Couples.
So you read the script. This 9th generation copy of Friends makes Romantically Challenged seem fresh.
There is nothing that makes Romantically Challenged anything beyond horribly challenging. Kyle B can do so much better as we saw last season in Worst Week. He is a comedy GOD! Damn right! I said it!
Comments like this one are the reason I hate comments sections in general. How about naming the source where you read this. What publication? What website? Who was the writer? And God forbid you provide a link to the “horrible things” you read about the show. And by the way it’s Perfect Couples, not Prfect Couples.
Where are the people of color? and dont you dare say Olivia Munn!!
The cast of Outsourced, and Undercovers.
NBC’s strong development season is reminding me of ABC back in 20004. Doing an anthology and a show where the majority of the cast are people of color is extremely bold.
“people of color”? people still say that?

So this means Friends with Benefits stands next to no chance now, right? Young people and their love lives, they already have Love Bites and now this. Dang. I LOVED 500 Days of Summer and was so excited when I heard they had written a pilot.
I’m happy for Christine Woods, though. She’s been one of the best parts of the crapfest that is Flashforward and I hope that gets cancelled so she can get out of there. And I’m sure someone will retort with a “Why do you bother watching it then?” but I seriously cannot quit a show. I just can hope it will get cancelled (ie Heroes).
OK, so the suits at NBC are pretty damn stupid, as reflected in recent late-night happenings. But even THEY are not stupid enough to let a series slip by that has the latest “it” girl–Olivia Munn. I hope the series is good enough to not fall flat on its face.
What is the status of ‘This Little Piggy’?
I’m curious too. I like this script.
Fantastic! This sounds like a great cast. I’ve heard it’s somewhat of a ‘Friends’ type show, so I’m excited. Congratulations to Olivia Munn!
seems to me nbc is throwing spaghetti at the wall and hopes it sticks.
I can’t wait for Perfect Couples!
could there ever be a worse casting than olivia munn? she is just awful in everything she does.
worse than your Mom?
AJ’s mom is rather good at…several things.
(Haha, how did your comment get approved?!)
the thing is she’s not the focus of the show. christine wood and kyle howard are the main couple. munn to me is not a good actress she’s a good host of a tv show. she apparently said today that she will do both shows.
Could someone please tell me how well the testing for Perfect Couples went and how good is the show?
Olivia Munn….that’s all
She was a good actress in Date Night.
Having cringed through a test screening of Beach Lane, with not a single laugh in the audience, I can’t say I’m surprised it was dropped. It was like a corny script from the 90s that someone dug up.
Having attended the pilot’s filming and enjoyed it a great deal, I’m very disappointed. In my opinion, “Beach Lane” was a welcome throwback, reminiscent of Paul Simms’ own “NewsRadio.” A few of the jokes didn’t quite connect, but the studio audience’s response was quite positive overall.
No offense to Ms. Munn, but she is severely lacking in acting talent. Her roles in features are cameos at best and cutting room removals at worst.
She is the “it” girl of today but if 2nd fiddle on a third rate production is all she can warrant…she should continue pandering to the nerds and hope for the best.
As for me, I’ll continue criticizing people in comment sections.
I will be dissappointed if Kindreds isn’t picked up. DEK always has enjoyable shows and Kathy Bates has been getting buzz for her role in it.
Hosting is acting, in most senses. If anyone knows Olivia Munn from Attack of the Show, they know she can can do very well in a comic role.
munn does well for unscripted comedy and this scripted. it will be interesting to see what she can do with it. like someone said christine woods and kyle howard are the central focus not munn’s couple. i see this going on wednesday and not thursday it’s obvious their thursday night lineup is set unless nbc really wants to throw curve balls.
Kyle Howard and Christine Woods are the central couple, but I’ll bet money that it’s Mary Elizabeth Ellis and David Walton who steal this show.
Sort of like how John Noble steals the show in Fringe as Dr. Walter Bishop.
mary elizabeth ellis is funny. i dont know alot about dave walton. wasn’t he cast in 100 questions that never aired?
I will watch this show because Olivia is in it. I only hope she is half as entertaining as she is on aots. It seems a shame us g4 nerds have kept her a secret for 3 years.
Why in the world would NBC open up a comedy night on WED? Is ABC and CBS not enough — that every sitcom has to be on WEDS???? They have to shake up their Thursday schedule because if they keep it the way it is — it’s just bad.
Wow, I cannot believe they passed on Beach Lane. I thought it had a lot going for it. I was at the taping of the pilot and it seemed to click very well.
Like it or not, Perfect Couples is the comedy NBC should be doing. Why? It appeals to a bigger audience than 30 Rock. It’s like people complain about 2 1/2 Men and Friends but they do well in the ratings because they appeal to a mass audience.
Friends did appeal to a mass audience but also live in day where people have ADD. that wasn’t the case with Friends. They’re are dvr and things like that that don’t count in the ratings. It will depend on the night it’s placed. I think it could work on Wednesday at 8pm that lineup on abc while it does fair in the ratings shows like this could give it compeition
If they passed on a show for fall season, could they still consider it as a mid-season replacement?
Is Kyle Howard still going to be in this show if My Boys isn’t cancelled? Who will replace him if TBS doesn’t let him out of his contract?
Awful Awful show that is messing up a good lineup
Olivia Munn is a terrible actress. She was awful on AOTS and now she’s awful on this. The show is not that bad but could be better with a stronger female cast.
Olivia Munn is good at ad libbing and improvising but I’ve yet to see her capable of handling scripted material (Date night, sketches on AOTS, Broken Lizard Movies, etc.) Just as some bad writers can’t write in someone else’s voice, she can’t deliver lines someone else has written. She needed to have spent more time learning her craft, and less time working on getting famous.
