6:20 PM UPDATE: Now I hear NBC will decide on 3 possible futures for Heroes, perhaps as soon as tomorrow. The most unlikely is a 13-episode order for midseason. (Creator Tim Kring is hoping for this scenario, of course.) A real possibility is that NBC cancels it altogether. But I’m told odds are best that NBC announces ”some kind of climactic finale” for Heroes lasting 2- or even 4-episodes (back to back, over one- or two-nights) to air in midseason.
Even though Heroes‘ ratings are weak, it is a profitable show for NBC. It brings in the highest international sales of any of NBC’s primetime series. It’s the No. 1 most downloaded show overseas. Plus, it’s a huge DVD seller both domestic and internationally. “What it’s up against is that NBC’s new team is trying to rebrand the network and give it a fresh look with new shows from J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David E Kelley,” an insider tells me. “Heroes doesn’t fit in with that. But Heroes is a big brand by itself.” If no decision is made tomorrow, then it’s possible NBC may wait to decide the show’s future after upfronts.
5 PM: I’m hearing that NBC might give Heroes a short order of 6 to just finish up the storyline of the series next fall. Or else it’s a goner. (My sources are betting on the latter.) In any case, there’s zero chance of a 22-episode pickup.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
WTF! Bad rubbish! Didn’t you just read what was up there???

So there in your wise ass face losssseeeerrr
Heroes being profitable doesnt mean the show/storylines itself is not rubbish.
wtf heroes was the best show on!! your one of those people huuuh well it it heroes should still be around it was great im one of those people who loved it thats all that matters
eat it! heroes was the best!!!!!!!! get off the site!!!!!
Six-episode wrapup might be best for “Heroes.”
Another series that seems as if it would benefit from a quicker resolution would be ABC’s “V” because it’s just stretching things out too much to keep it going. Otherwise it’s like an interminable soap opera that moves mutliple storylines at a glacial pace.
I don’t see how they can keep what’s left of audience interest.
Should have been put out of its misery long ago. It’s been dead to me for at least a season and a half, maybe longer.
Sigh. It was a GREAT show, or, at least it could have been. Alas they repeated their storylines way too many times and never really let any of their characters go anywhere. Tis a shame.
Six more sounds about right. That’d be a good amount for a wrap-up. Better if it were 13, but this way they can make fast work of the final story arc, and then perhaps move it to another medium. Perhaps it’ll become an ongoing Comic Book series.
so L&O is denied a proper send-off, but heroes gets one? bizarre
my thoughts exactly. This is bullshit. Way to go NBC.
L&O has been on the air for 20 years! What kind of wrap up do they need. Another big case to solve?
I hope that NBC gives Heroes at least that much, though I’m secretly going to keep holding out for the 13-episode pickup. I think there’s still so much potential in this show, and I’d hate to see it all rushed into a 6 episode series finale. They tried to rush it when the writer’s strike botched up season 2, and that’s where their problems started.
Whatever they do, I just hope they show respect to the fans who still want the show to continue. We’ve waited this long for any news at all, and if they end up simply canceling it after we’ve all held out for a hint in any direction I am going to be severely angry.
I agree with you 100%.
I absolutely love Heroes! I watch it on TV and watch it on my laptop. I was soo pissed when they announced they would cancel it. Get rid of all the shows that just copy off each other but use a different name. I wish they keep it.
Yeah well, NBC, recent displayers of being a group able to screw their cash cows (like Conan on “The Tonight Show”) have held a long tradition of heads up & locked, the primo example being the original Star Trek. While Neilsen’s were not optimal, the regular advertisers were 101% happy with having reached their exact target audience(s) and it showed in their sales. But the dopes at NBC cancelled it anyway and the rest as they say, is history.
Just put it out of its misery! Let the writers/actors move on — a short order with the current team kind of benches everyone when they could be out generating new business.
Another option for NBC that could appeal to both (the few remaining) US fans and their international partners is to cancel and “reboot” in a season or two — new writers, new “heroes” same basic premise, clean slate execution.
Remember, nearly 20 million people watched this show at its peak — those people could theoretically come back to the brand if something dramatic and decisive was done to revive the premise. Three and a half years ago this felt like a new franchise with Star Trek potential.
The Star Trek movies didn’t really start taking off until they took Gene Roddenberry out of the equation.
Thry need to do some sort of wrap up to give it long term value in syndication.
I really hope they at least give it 6 eps.
Come on NBC, if it is making a bunch of money then why would you cancel it just because it doesnt fit into your new marketing plan?
As into comics and sci-fi as I am, I’ve still never seen an episode.
Since LOST is ending, I’ll ask. Is this show worth watching?
“is this show worth watching?” – well, maybe in the first season although I didn’t watch it then (one mythology show – LOST- was enough for me). I tried to warm up for it returning at the start of season two (dull), season three (better but why is that guy slicing everyone’s head open?) and season four (once I understood that so and so was dead but looked like such and such, I said buh bye).
The problem with the show for me is that the characters never did anything particularly heroic, they just kind of fought each other a lot. There was WAY too much Sylar (and I love Zach Quinto to pieces but really, he was really overexposed on this show). And finally too much head slicing, character killing (one the reasons my adoration of LOST has faded) and convoluted stories to keep me interested (this one is dead, no they’re not.. well, that only works the first dozen times and then well, you’ve seen the ratings).
What is it about this generation of TV writers that think that the viewers want to see people sliced open again and again? Seriously, is there a head and body slicing demo I’m not aware of?
I totally agree that using ZQ so much ruined this show. TPTB wanted to capitalize on his Star Trek fame and have him, the villain, star in a show about heroes. I do like him, but Sylar overload was the reason this show tanked.
No. Not even the positives of season 1 (even that season is overhyped, good not AMAZING) can’t counteract the negatives of the other seasons.
Scott–the first season was the best and is definitely worth your time. It’s all convoluted unbelievable bad news after that…
This is great news to me. Love the show. I think the plot was really starting to build toward something that had the potential to be memorable. They have a chance to go out with bang. I hope they don’t waste it with soapy melodrama and go out in true comic book style.
Please, just let this flaming piece of stink just GO AWAY ALREADY. It doesn’t need 6 episodes to wrap up or even ONE. It sucks. There’s a reason 16 million people went running for the hills. I quit this show back in early season 2.
And what they do know in Europe anyway? The entire continent is in debt and they think David Hasselhoff is cool. Bunch of morons.
Way to bring location and race into this. Figures, since you’re so “elitist.”
I though Season 1 was awesome, 2 underwhelming, 3 was really bad, and 4 was actually interesting and good. So it should have SOME kind of proper ending. I’m hoping for a season instead of a movie.
“And what they do know in Europe anyway? The entire continent is in debt”
Gee I wonder who was responsible for that, certain country whos citizens spend a little to much time in McDonald’s comes to mind.
Anyway hope Heroes get a final event.
The original concept of Heroes was to have a different group of people develop powers each season with only 1 or 2 people carried over. I thought that would be great, they immediately changed that after the first season. We now have a lot of new people with powers with the storylines repeating.
Goodbye
Heroes has a great first season, but it was all downhill after that…the bullyshitty time travel really messed things up and took things from “comic-book believable” to “stupid” …some characters were completely forgotten about, and the ones that remained just meandered through the same meaningless boring scenarios episode after episode. The same characters are still whining to each other, backstabbing each other, I dunno …no one has become a HERO yet…they just interact w/ each other and it’s like a boring soap opera w/ X-Men powers. Kill it…there’s no story to conclude at this point.
Isn’t the reason why the ratings dropped so much was due to poor writing/storyline? So why are some of you blaming NBC?
I watched every episode live until the writer’s strike, many online after that, and back live again as this past season came to a close. The uncertainty of the strike back then DID mess with this show in a big way. I assume there WAS a plan to keep it fresh, but if you don’t know in advance if you have a full of half season (as it turned out), you can’t really have it both ways.
The last episode of last season did have sort of a resolved feel for some of the characters, but not for others. The door is open for a longer conclusion, and a continuation of the storyline Claire offered, but it’s not completely necessary. I’d watch if it were on, but I won’t hold by breath waiting for an answer. I only checked in today because after L&O was canceled, I wondered if a decision on Heroes was made yet.
if NBC does not allow a proper sendoff – I plan on boycotting NBC. Decisions like these are done to often.
As someone who watched every episode of Heroes as it aired(or a day or two later if i was unable to catch it), this sucks, but not that much. Knew it would happen sooner or later, but after that finale, hate it(unless we get a send off). Personally, i enjoyed it because i looked at it as a live action X-Men series(seriously, that’s pretty much what it was, Wolvie was just a female without claws instead).
But this is my thing, if the show is still bit of a cash cow for NBC, why doesn’t NBC/Universal say move it to summer programming? Or, here’s a crazy idea, to their own channel SciFi? They’ve had several marathons on SciFi. Kinda how i thought they should have handled Life, it deserved a send off to, should have moved it to USA, detective Crews would have been a perfect fit for their ‘Characters Welcome’ slogan.
I agree with Nate…. Life would’ve been PERFECT for USA (lietterally PERFECT). Great minds think alike!
Also, NBC are dickheads. They should’ve kept Journeyman running, and cancelled Heroes instead.
I don’t get you guys. If something really sucked, you wouldn’t be here wasting your time on this website sharing your views in hopes to get some one join you on your wild wagon of condemning a show that you obviously give a damn to comment.
As much as I love Heroes, the series is somewhat like a big jig saw puzzle, well, most series are. Like a puzzle, there are bound to be parts where people love and hate, ultimately all these parts comes together to form something that’s just awesome, just like Heroes.
To a show that entertained us.
Absolutely furious it was canceled, bottom line is what can you do about it? Don’t get me started on Flashforward.
It’s funny how I came to like the show. I didn’t particularly like the pilot. Sometime in the 3rd season I got bored and watched it (when everyone was tuning out). I’m not crazy about the head cutting and gore either, but I liked it otherwise. I went back and bought the first two seasons. I liked them. I think the first season is held up so high because they kept the characters as real as they could, but they had direction and were HEROES. Death wasn’t treated like comic books where people died and came back (like season 2 on) I think the strike hurt Heroes more than any other show. The 2nd season was messed up mainly because of the strike and lack of focus on a long-term storyline. It lost momentum and the 2nd season of a new hit show is important to not have scheduling issues which the strike caused.
Then in the third season it was unorganized. There didn’t seem to be a storyline they were building towards like Season 1. They stopped being heroes and genuinely started fighting each other. Season Four brought back a storyline (kind-of) they were building towards, but it was much too watered down. The carnival thing was ok, but it took too long to become a threat. Again scheduling after season one helped mess up this show along with a lack of direction. I also felt there was too much focus on certain characters at times. Too much Claire, too much Sylar not enough Peter. Could have used a better supporting cast at times in seasons 2-4. Definately could have used some more villains and stories that built on one another.
I stayed with the show and enjoyed every episode. I noticed the kids in my family drifted away after the first season. I think the big problem was the gaps where the show wasn’t on. People are not glued to the TV anymore and most got out of the habit of watching. This kills a lot of shows.
