Two long-running series, Fox’s 24 and NBC’s Law & Order, made a quiet exit last night. The two-hour series finale of 24 posted a 2.7 rating/8 share among adults 18-49. That was down 10% from last week and down 13% from last season’s finale. Law & Order, in its final original airing, at least on NBC (Creator Dick Wolf has been having conversations with TNT about moving the series there), drew a 1.9/5 at 10 PM, up 12% from last week and down 5% from last season’s finale. This was the veteran crime drama’s best ratings result since March 1.
Probably relieved that their show has been renewed, Chuck fans didn’t show up in droves for the season finale. The two-hour closer of the NBC spy dramedy that led into L&O drew a 1.8/5 in 18-49, the show’s lowest-rated telecast ever and down 25% from last season’s finale. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (4.0/12) was down 2% from last week, while The Bachelorette (2.8/8) was down 7% from last year’s May premiere, logging the franchise’s lowest-rated season debut.
The season finales of CBS’ Monday lineup were solid, all up from last week by double digits. How I Met Your Mother opened the night with a 3.5/11, followed by Rules Of Engagement (3.3/9), Two and a Half Men (5.0/13), The Big Bang Theory (5.2/13), in its last original airing on Mondays before it moves to Thursday in the fall, and CSI: Miami (3.3/9). All series were down slightly from last year’s finales with the exception of Rules and Big Bang, which were down 25% and up 41%, respectively, as they switched time slots this season (Rules aired behind Two and a Half Men last year, while Big Bang ran at 8:30 PM). CBS (3.9/11, 11.9 million viewers overall) was No.1 for the night in adults 18-49, while ABC (3.2/9, 12.5 million) was tops in viewers.

Sizzling Summer Trailer: ‘Abraham Lincoln Vampire

24 was horrible, who was surprise that he went on the run… again? They should have kill off his character execution skill but then it would be weird when the movies come out. L&O was just boring, I understand that they thought they would have come back for another season but why come back to another boring season?
I liked the entire run of 24. Lots of unbelievable tech, and indestrutablity of Jack elements but for sheer action, tough to beat this show. They had a good run. Go in peace, Jack.
With increased competition from other channels and avenues (internet, etc), people expect their television to be of the highest standard. When it falls short (or just short), it’s perceived as failure. We should just all understand that ratings will never be awesome all the time.
From a qualitative standpoint, I thought the ’24′ finale was the best, ‘Law & Order’ 2nd and ‘Lost’ a distant 3rd.
Hey, did anyone catch the “easter eggs” in the Law & Order finale. All of the guest characters were named after the contributors on the conservative blog “Big Hollywood” — they named some internet pedophile John Nolte and a pain-in-the-ass Fed. prosecutor Schlicter (rhymes with sphincter, says one of the detectives).
The show also trolled 4chan by naming one of the bad guys “Moot” after the handle of 4chan’s creator.
I haven’t watched 24 since the disaster that was season 6 (Day 6). I watched that entire horrible season, hoping that with each horrendous episode that there might be a chance it would get better, It didn’t. That was the biggest waste of my time. Some fans claimed that it got better in season 7, but the show had wasted enough of my time that I refused to watch.
I tried to give it a second chance at the beginning of the season, but it was just more of the same. The show had become a joke and that was sad to see. What was once a great show to watch had become a caricature of itself.
I thought I would give the show one last chance and tuned in to the beginning of the series finale last night and nothing had changed, Just more bad acting, terrible writing. It was dreadful. I had to change the channel after 5 minutes. No wonder hardly anybody watched. It was pure crap. This show took a nosedive right after it’s creative peak. If Fox isn’t careful, the same thing is going to happen to Glee.
Hate to say it Who Cares, but yeah, all shows take a nosedive after creative peaks. That’s why they’re called “peaks.” As for 24, this was a very respectable season, and while the 2-hour finale wasn’t stunning, it was a letdown only compared to hours 21 and 22, which were among the show’s greatest ever.
Yes, I know what a peak is, that’s why I said it. However, there was no gradual decline in quality with 24 after season 5. It went straight off a cliff. Sometimes after a show reaches its peak, it’s still worth watching because it has some redeeming qualities. Season 6 of 24 had none. It was a complete waste of time. No one cared that 24 was cancelled. I am not a fan of LOST but whether you like it or not, the publicity machine was cranked up high for the series finale. 24 went out with a whimper…
terrible acting? are you fucking kidding me? 24 always had good acting especially by Kiefer Sutherland…you clearly have no idea what your talking about dumb fuck. If you think Glee is a better show then 24 then you are a stupid faggot
Obviously your reading comprehension skills are lacking. No where did I say that Glee was a better show than 24. To speak in terms that you would understand, at one time, Fox was pushing 24 down our throats just like they are pushing Glee. You must have a better gag reflex than most though as you could take 24 much deeper and longer than I could.
24 has had its problems over the years but the finale was a fitting end to the series. Certainly leaves open the possibility for a 24 movie. L&O lost credibility long ago and the series going out with a whimper was appropriate. Expect SVU and CI will go the same way. CI in particular is not the same without D’Onofrio and Erbe. The finale of Lost remained true to the storyline of the show. Many Lost episodes didn’t make sense to me and the finale didn’t either.
It was fitting Jack Bauer spent most of the final episode flat on his ass. A metaphor for the writing.
From a qualitative standpoint, I thought the ‘24? finale was the best, ‘Law & Order’ 2nd and ‘Lost’ a distant 3rd.

Totally agree. The TPTB of Lost should have chatted with the TPTB of 24/L&O before writing their finale.
Yeah, that would’ve made sense.

24 finale was AWFUL. Just like the rest of this season. The writers had no motivation to write anything remotely interesting for President Taylor who was completely mishandled this year. Jack was hardly in the finale except for the sniper scene, although the ear-biting thing was cool. There’s going to be a movie franchise so why the hell even get invested in the characters during the finale? It was just hard to like. I thought LOST was brilliant, I cackle at the weak-minded people who didn’t understand it.
I thought “24″ had the best finale. It was as good as network TV gets in all aspects. Acting, cinematography, etc. right down to the final scene.
L@O “final” episode was very, very, good. On top of that, it isn’t over, until it’s over, any deep fan of seriously good writing would know that already.
