Fox ruled the first night of the off-season with the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance, while ABC’s FlashForward and NBC’s 100 Questions made quiter exit/debut, respectively. The two-hour season 7 opener of Dance averaged a 3.0 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 and 8.2 million viewers overall. That was up 11% in the demo from the show’s most recent fall premiere but down 12% from Dance’s last summer’s debut. The series finale of FlashForward (1.3/5) was down 19% from last week and tied the recently cancelled drama’s lowest-rated telecast. Meanwhile, NBC’s new multi-camera comedy 100 Questions, originally slated for midseason but subsequently sent to summer for a burn-off run, premiered with a 0.8/3 in the demo, ranking as the lowest-rated program on the night dominated by repeats. It was tied for the bottom position with the only other original offering last night, ABC’s Hollywood Salutes Matt Damon special, which also drew a 0.8/2. All repeats fared better.

Despite the low rating the finale to FlashForward was actually really good. In general, however, good riddance.
Okay so no one watched ‘Hollywood salutes Damon’, I had no idea he was being saluted! If i had known, I’d have organized a boycott of ABC but it seems a boycott was organized without my knowledge. Who says there is no accounting for the public’s taste?!!!! errrr….Hollywood salutes Matt Damon? YARR?
Just watched 100 Questions — actually moderately amusing. It probably deserves a slightly better fate than this.
I agree. I’ve expected something really bad because NBC execs decided to dump it among comedy repeats in summer, but it was actually funny. I wonder why they didn’t start this show earlier – it could have done much better with promotion and a good lead-in. The show reminds me a lot of How I Met Your Mother and the cast had a great chemistry… could have been a hit for NBC, I mean, hey, the first funny sitcom from NBC since the now-lackluster 30 Rock.
I don’t get it. Why is so much of network TV just… BAD?!?!
What happened to smart cool shows that didn’t telegraph what is going to happen in the first 3 min? or use stock characters with stereotypical dialog?
thank god for HBO and Showtime, I’d hate to lose Californication- but network TV? man, I’d hardly notice if it went the way of the dinosaur.
100 Questions was a disgrace and the quicker that is burned off, the better. FF was abysmal but SYTYCD still has legs though.

Because much of network TV is written by committee. You’ve got layers of studio/network executives with a say in what goes on-screen–and who don’t have much respect for their audience. Plus the fact they want to please everyone to get as much share as possible. Result–shows that are unoriginal, don’t add up…and please no one. Nobody wants to take risks when that much money is at stake, and it’s better to be the person who opted for the safe bet than the one who put money on a gamble, no matter how good.
