Saban Capital Group announced today it has purchased the Power Rangers property from the Walt Disney Company. Immediately, another news release announced that Nickelodeon and Saban Brands have partnered to put the Power Rangers on the air for an 18th TV season.
Saban introduced the first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series in 1993 and made a mint off it. His acquisition from Disney includes worldwide rights to the brand as well as over 700 episodes produced over 17 years. The TV deal consists of 20 new episodes on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011, with the catalog of 700 episodes launching on Nicktoons later this year.
Produced by SCG Power Rangers LLC, will commence production in summer 2010 with original Executive Producer Jonathan Tzachor back at the helm and a new cast, look and theme for the show.
“Power Rangers is one of the world’s leading children’s entertainment properties and we are delighted to see its return,” said Haim Saban, chairman and chief executive officer, Saban Capital Group, Inc.
Following its introduction in 1993 on the Fox Kids Network, Power Rangers quickly became the most watched children’s television program in the United States. The series has been translated into numerous languages and rose to become the #1 boys brand in the world from 1993-97, based on toy sales and television ratings. The Walt Disney Company acquired the franchise in 2001 as part of its purchase of Fox Family Worldwide, which included Saban Entertainment and its library of children’s programs. To date, Power Rangers has aired in over 60 countries and the property’s licensed products and promotions have generated well over $5 billion worldwide.
This marks the first property for Saban Brands, the recently formed subsidiary of Saban Capital Group, which was created to manage and license entertainment properties and consumer brands across media and consumer platforms throughout the world. Saban Brands also announced a new long-term master toy and video game license agreement with Bandai Namco Group, which has been the toy partner for Power Rangers since its inception. Saban Brands will manage the Power Rangers brand worldwide including licensing, merchandising, consumer promotions and brand extensions.

NO MORE DISNEY RANGERS FUK YEA!
Are you seriously telling me Saban’s PR was perfect? Disney have made some great seasons and just like Saban, some were better than others, Disney kept PR going this is why i will always thank them for that, but now its time for a new era in the franchise.
WTF?!? The Nick brand was established as a channel that didn’t air kids shows that were really just crass half-hour commercials for products. Parents trusted it. Kids recognized that the shows didn’t pander. If she were dead Gerry Laybourne would be turning over in her grave.
So will they be going back to all non-union (writers included!) in Valencia?
Yes!! Go Go Power Rangers!
Oh no.. nerdgasm!
Thanks Saban! Nice to see those spandex-fighting superheroes back in action.
well i never expected the original owner to take it back. what a shock there.
Talk about a stroll down memory lane. I remember watching that show back when I was a kid.
Saban is a genius, and this is great news. The Power Rangers brand is incredibly strong, yet was horrendously under-utilised by Disney, despite the last season being stellar stuff.
I also think Saban deserves commendation for continuing the brand as is, and celebrating its 700 episode history, instead of doing the usual reboot crap. Season 18 – wow!
That said, I think he should consider a theatrical retelling of the original pilot, keeping it in-canon.
yeah my childhood life is coming back disney did messed up the series i wish i was a child again i hope saban does become more success than he ever was and hope he makes another movie i just wish they show the new season on cw 61 or fox 10 or 45 would be great for me. YEAH GO POWER RANGERS ALL THE WAY!
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. I won’t even try to deny that I nerdgasmed here and now at this. nostalgia overload…
As a former stuntman for the tv shows, live shows, and appearances, I am ecstatic that Mr. Saban has bought back the rights for the Power Rangers. With Disney’s acquisition of the property, it was never considered a part of the Disney family, hence the lack of proper marketing and PR. Mr. Saban is the right person to bring Power Rangers back to a respectable level of popularity. Despite the shows “corniness”, the Rangers have a great social value. I have personally witnessed many a happy face from hospital visits and Make-A-Wish Foundation appearances and believe the Rangers do represent a great message to tell children.
Yes the Rangers are back under there creator. I grew up with the power rangers and hated what disney did to the brand. the constant new teams every year not giving time for fans to get to now the charactors and love them. im still a tommy fan till this day, i still remeber playing power rangers with my friends. ITS MORPHING TIME!!!!
MAY THE POWER PROTECT YOU. Yea big nerdgasm.
This is cool news and i hope Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will still stay on the air and maybe it won’t be like disney’s because they butchered the series when they had the rights.
omg i can’t believe it. that means everything that saban did for power ranger is finally coming back. omg its a new era and so many comeback with movies music actors and singers, even shows that saban made the best series all time, power rangers. im so happy he bought it back. not only we can be able to see reruns on nickaloedian and nick toons. but new power ranger show coming next year on spring. yay now felt like 17 years since watching my favorite show of all time.
disney will buyu back1
Power rangers is easily one of the worst shows in history. Saban ripped off the Japanese Super Sentai series of toys and shows which goes back to the 1970s (In this case, the Zyuranger series) and he tried to claim it on his own.
Watch Super Sentai instead it’s a thousand times better than the awful Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show ever was.
I totally agree with your assessments of the Power Rangers TV series, the adaptation of the Super Sentai TV series in Japan. It is not only a sham, but also a scam to entice its fans to watch the show and buy its promotional items such as toys, video games, etc., which are really all trash. Both Saban Entertainment and Disney Entertainment ought to be held liable for plagiarizing and butchering the original TV series of Japan to create the TV series that really has never been their own (meaning they have used too many props and cut and pasted too many footages from the original TV series for their adaptation), in all of its installments to date. Toei, the Japanese company that is the true creator of the Super Sentai series, as well as many other tokusatsu series, should not have given the rights to either Saban or Disney to adapt their work, especially the Super Sentai. Therefore, the Power Rangers franchise is worth absolutely nothing! So whoever owns such franchise now (in this case, Saban) should really drop it for good!
Power Rangers has got to be the most asinine show in the history of children’s television. It’s so bad, that it’s really bad these days. I can’t think of a single person who can’t laugh at how truly awful this show was. It’s like something you would see pop up on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
You are so right about this! Power Rangers TV series is nothing but a joke, meaning it is way too ludicrous to be considered a quality TV show! Besides, no matter which entertainment company holds the franchise of the Power Rangers, whether it’s Saban, Disney or whatever, the end results would still be the same since storylines, cast of characters and scripts of virtually all installments of the show to date have had been poorly planned and executed, and some of the same characters have had been rehashed from one installment to another with no sophistication or genuine creativity as to why that would be so. And worst of all, those companies would often use footages and props from the original TV series of Japan, also known as Super Sentai TV series (Toei Company created), to complete their work of adaptations of such TV series. The Power Rangers fans, including the children that are, have been cheated by those aforementioned entertainment companies that have produced and marketed such garbage (not just the show itself, but also many of its promotional items such as toys, book bags, etc.). This kind of fraud should not be tolerated anymore, and it has got to stop! I don’t mind those companies making money, which they all should be, but they need to create their own products or works of arts that are virtually or completely independent of those of others.
bring back fox kids next
Does this mean we’ll maybe see the opportunity arise for Mighty Morphin Power Ranger complete season boxsets on dvd and/or bluray!?
That’s what I’m hoping for!
Every since i was young i have been wacthing power rangers serieseveryone of the and every epsiode, all i care about is that if is on the air iam happy.POWER RANGERS FOREVER!!!!
You mean “SOUR STINKERS FOREVER!!!!” I mean, come on, Power Rangers is nothing but a parody of the Super Sentai TV series of Japan, considering how it has been produced throughout the years (by plagiarism and butchering of the Super Sentai genre, of course). Such TV series is a complete laughingstock and it is made for people with a very low IQ to watch, and people with real common sense are very unlikely to indulge on this garbage.
can you make orange ranger and purple ranger
