From Mode to Wisteria Lane. Ugly Betty co-star Vanessa Williams will join 
another ABC dramedy, Desperate Housewives, as a regular next season. She will play “a housewife who’s sure to shake things up in the neighborhood.” Williams, who just wrapped a stint on Broadway in Sondheim and Sondheim, should be a good fit on Desperate Housewives, which has a similar campy comedy feel to the recently cancelled Ugly Betty. Williams earned an Emmy nomination for her role as the villainous Wilhelmina Slater on Ugly Betty. She is repped by ICM and Geordie Frey.

She’ll be a great fit for that show
Nothing against Ms. Williams but Desperate Housewives needs excitement – not the addition of someone who didn’t do anything to save her previous show from its fast ratings decline. She may be good – but Housewives needs to freshen up and get exciting again or it will soon go the way of Ugly Betty. The stories just go in circles, and evidently so do ABC’s stars with this new casting addition. Why not get someone who’ll make some noise… be a reason to watch if a viewer’s been tuning out lately?
YEAH!!!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Vanessa. Great, talented actress and all-around entertainer!!! A class act, beautiful person – inside and out — much like the late legendary Lena Horne. Cannot wait for next season!!! We miss Ugly Betty, but this makes up for it’s cancellation, just a little bit.

Truly amazing casting.
The 5th housewife always gets the shaft. There always a big hoopla over some plum casting and then they hype up the story only to forget about their new star halfway through the season. The audience is left completely confused as to what happened and then they try to tie up the story when they remember there was a plot with no ending.
I love Vanessa Williams but she deserves better than the treatment she is sure to get from Marc Cherry and friends. Hopefully she can shake things up a bit. This show really should have been cancelled about two years ago. Nicollette Sheridan should thank Marc Cherry from getting her off a sinking ship instead of suing him. What a slap in the face! Oops, did I say that?!!!
Great, great news she is one of the most talented ladies in the business…and she is seriously underrated.
I was a bit worried that she didn’t accept any pilots but now I know why. Desperate Housewives is a very well-deserved upgrade for her!!!

Why can’t a talented actress just be a talented actress? If you think Williams was cast because of her ethnicity, you clearly know nothing about the business.
They did, with Alfre Woodard. They wasted her talent with a storyline to nowhere. It’s not the Housewives who are Desperate, it’s Marc Cherry. This show is desperately grasping at straws to fight off cancellation. ABC, please put this show out of the viewing audience’s misery.

frankly, vanessa is waisting her time with such a show. this women has been miss america, had top 10 hits, modeled, AND acts….those people need to be thanking their lucky stars she even accepted!
Why is Vanessa Williams JUST being added to the cast anyway? In my opinion, she should have been cast the exact same time Eva Langoria was chosen or another beautiful black woman. She should’ve been one of the original cast members seven seasons ago? Ugly Betty did not begin until approximately four years later. Did she audition in the very beginning or not? Did she turn it down back then? Please let me know what you think.
