Well, this is hardly surprising. More than 1,400 moviegoers voted in a poll on Fandango for the most anticipated movie of this summer – and Eclipse won with 36% of the vote. (Just to remind you, here’s a photo of the New Moon fan frenzy.) I hear tickets for the Twilight Saga threequel start selling online Friday.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Not surprising at all. Most dudes I know don’t give a shit enough to click on polls or go to Fandango.com. We just go to the box office when we want to see a movie. I’m most looking forward to Inception myself, looks great.
you’re such a hardass, brah
Well we all know this is Nikki’s most anticipated movie. We get about 4-5 stores on the Twilight Saga (or cast members like Taylor) every week.
DAMN! Those girls remind me of the Omega Moos from Revenge of the Nerds.
Omega Moos… classic.
Now they deserve a film themselves. Where’s Booger?
cant believe people would get excited after watching two of the most overhyped crap factories thats been on the big screen. Hype hype hype.
Watch out Ironman, Spidey and the likes. Teenage hormones will rule them all
That said, pls oh pls…leave Batman alone will ya!
Teen males get tons of movies aimed at them. Teen girls get one movie a year aimed at them (if they are lucky). So, of course that one movie will do well at the box office.
i couldn’t find the poll on fandango, but where did Iron Man 2 come in?
next summer is shaping up to be one of the best summer movie seasons in ages, and the following november, twilight finally becomes a box office memory.
I’m pumped about THE A-TEAM, but that’s jest me. INCEPTION will probably be the best film in the history of cinema.
The A-Team?? FOX movies are bad but their action titles are the worst! Sheesh Remember BABYLON A.D.? or DRAGONBALL? or STREET FIGHTER? or 12 ROUNDS? or MAX PAYNE? How about THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL? They even blew a great potential franchise with PERCY JACKSON. And TAKEN was not made by Fox, it was Luc Besson’s company. Now they’re trying to say A-Team will rise to the level of BATMAN reboot?! hahahaha yeah right.
I’ve seriously wasted enough money on Fox.
Teen girls get lots of movies, like THE LAST SONG, DEAR JOHN, TWILIGHT, WHEN IN ROME, THE BODY GUARD, and on and on.
Wow, look at all the young girls. Gee, big shocker there!
Obviously you meant the most anticipated movie by lonely teenage girls. Because nobody else in the moviegoing public cares.
“Teen males get tons of movies aimed at them. Teen girls get one movie a year aimed at them (if they are lucky). So, of course that one movie will do well at the box office.” And why the heck is that since obviously teen girls will really turn out for something they like?
And would someone please notice that most of the “reviewers” on Rotten Tomatoes are male which maybe explains why movies aimed at guys seem to score a whole lot better than movies aimed at women.
Not to keep stoking the fire here but who’s fault is it that Rotten Tomatoes has mainly male reviewers? Ladies need to get more involved. As Ms. Finke has shown by example women are can be very influential. A good review online is a good review. Then again that brings up the question of whether critics a loosing their influence or not in this day and age.
The general Tomatometer is cited all the time as the indicator of critical reaction to a movie but the criteria for RT “critics” is pretty vague. One of the ways to become an RT critic is through membership in a movie organization http://www.rottentomatoes.com/critics/critics_groups.php The “Online Film Critics Society” has the most members on RT’s list of groups, out of 140 members of that group, 9.5 or 7% are women http://www.rottentomatoes.com/critics/authors.php?view=2 (one is half of a team) The reviewers who have posted the most reviews lately are all guys http://www.rottentomatoes.com/critics/most_active.php
Here’s the first page of RT reviews for each of the top 5 movies out now:
Ironman- 20% of reviews are written by women

Nightmare on Elm Street- 1 out of 20 written by a woman

How to Train Your Dragon- 15% written by women

Date Night- 10% written by women

The Back-up Plan- 32% written by women http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/back_up_plan/?page=1&critic=columns&sortby=date&name_order=asc&view=text#contentReviews
Women just don’t seem to do the movie geek thing. Rather than expecting women to post tons of movie reviews to catch up with guys on Rotten Tomatoes, maybe we should admit RT mostly indicates male opinions. There’s just something way off when these actresses’ movies rate worse on the Tomatometer than the Saw movies, which have been called torture porn.

What’s the worst thing people usually say about romantic comedies?- they are trite and predictable. What comic book movie, what action movie isn’t just as predictable plus extremely violent? Only those movies usually score 2 or 3 times higher on the Tomatometer than romantic comedies. The fact that those actresses’ movies all score so ridiculously low is nuts. I’ll bet men and women all like really good movies but we probably differ in our tolerance for more formulaic stuff.
I think the general TomatoMeter is more reflective of guys’ opinions than women’s and that matters because it’s a self full-filling thing. Low RT scores may = lower box office. Then movie makers decide women can’t carry movies and either don’t make or don’t adequately fund movies with women leads and those poorly funded movies register poorly with audiences and RT reviewers, etc.
Ever notice more than half the time EW gives the chick flick to Owen G and the action flick to Lisa S for review?
Seriously Nikki, way to imbed personal bias into your posts. I can’t think of a single guy I’ve talked to (and I work in film retail) who is excited to see this movie. Yes, New Moon was huge…and sure, if you’re trying to show the power of the female movie fan, well done. But to say it’s the most anticipated film of the summer is, quite frankly, misleading. These films are as polarizing as anything that’s come out in the past 10 years, and that’s not going to change simply because it makes a boatload of money.
They are movie-of-the-week quality (at best) and the soap opera style acting and ridiculous special effects will continue to turn off anyone with any sense of what a ‘Summer Blockbuster’ truly is.
Enough with these ‘Twilight’ themed posts…we know your just doing it to increase traffic…and because you’ve got a hard on for the franchise!
Lame.
THIS.
sorry….I guess I’m just not hip enough. Is this a shot at me, or do you agree???
Why? Because the movies make money, MORONS. Go figure it out. And it I had the choice between seeing Transformers II or New Moon, I’d go for New Moon. At least I wouldn’t come out of the theater with a friggin headache.
sorry if you think my opinion is lame….or that you’d rather see New Moon over Transformers 2. Frankly, I wasn’t a fan of Transformers 2 either…but given the choice….its a no brainer.
Listen, I get that the Twilight movies make (a lot) of money, and there are a lot of fans out there who LOVE these movies/books…and I don’t even see anything ‘wrong’ with that per se….BUT, as a film buff, and as someone who would rather watch and re-watch films like Hurt Locker or Solaris or Inglourious Basterds it’s tough to watch the ‘hype machine’ constantly push movies like Eclipse or Transformers to the forefront. I feel like people are missing out on great art…great films….but people are going to like what they like, and maybe I’ve just got to come to terms with that….but that doesn’t mean I want to come on this website to see what’s ‘new’ and be bombarded with TwilightTwilightTwilightTwilight 3-4-5 times a week. When you’re not a fan of something and you’re constantly having it rammed down your throat it gets to be too much. And I work in movie retail…its my JOB to sell this stuff as much as the guys who make these movies…OK….not quite the same…but I’m a cog in the machine like everyone else. I’m going to push Eclipse because its going to make my store money, and its my job to make my store money…but that doesn’t mean I can’t have good taste….and these films…and these actors…in my opinion….are poor quality films…they are not art….they are junk food for screaming fans….like New Kids On The Block…….or Melrose Place…….or The Hills……..I don’t get it, and never will….and don’t want to.
So if THIS is lame….so be it….but you won’t catch me, and about millions of other dudes (and yes, some girls too) DEAD getting excited, or even mildly curious as to what the next installment of this franchise will bring. I gave Twilight 2 hours of my time to see what all the fuss was about…and I get it…but I don’t have to like it…and that’s all I was trying to say.
As for Nikki’s personal bias….fair is fair…its her site, its her job to bring us the news, and if Twilight stuff is ‘news’ for a lot of people out there, then she wouldn’t be doing her job if she shut it out of her site…all I’m saying is….
tone in down? please? Or maybe I’ll just have to get my news somewhere else????
I’d rather stay home than see either, if those are my choices. lol
I was one of the millions of women who loved these books. The movies? I wanted to love them, but they are pretty awful. They can change directors as often as they want, but at the end of the day – the screenwriter still doesn’t know how to capture the essence of the books at all. I’m absolutely floored over the way the fans of the series stick by it, acting as if these are really brilliant films that do no wrong. It’s absurd.
The prospect of the books being turned into movies was really exciting back a few years ago. But to see what a mess they became was painful.
The writers from the Vampire Diaries (and some of the actors) could teach Summit a few things.
