The National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards presented at the Las Vegas Hilton tonight. CBS was dominant in the soap opera category, in part because of the performances on the cancelled As The World Turns. The telecast included a special tribute to Dick Clark which was hosted by Ryan Seacrest that included Marie Osmond, Tony Orlando, Chubby Checker, the Spinners and vintage clips of the classic American Bandstand television show. Agnes Nixon was honored with the Academy’s Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of her over 45 years in Daytime Serial Drama creating ABC Television Network’s One Life to Live, All My Children and Loving:

Congratulations to Ellen DeGeneres! And, of course, to Dick Clark, who very much deserves his tribute.
Seeing all of the actors from As The World Turns win Emmys only makes its demise all that more tragic. Too bad Barbara Bloom at CBS Daytime doesn’t get canned too. Thanks Babs for destroying one of daytime’s greatest dramas, you MUST be so proud.
Couldn’t agree more… it sad and ridiculous to cancel ATWT… wish we could protect and/or petition to keep it on…
Not even sure this “awards show” is even relevant anymore. Would love to see the ratings it got (or didn’t get). Why not simply take the signifcant awards for daytime programming and fold them into the regular Emmy broadcast, while concurrently getting rid of the same number of technical and secondary categories.
While I certainly applaud the soap opera nominees and winners, there is another area of television that’s also recognized at the Daytime Emmys: animation.
Days of Our Lives shouldve won some stuff…molly burnett and crystall chappell def shouldve won.
I totally disagree with the comment about the daytime emmys not being relevant any break from the endless depressing crime shows is a welcome break for me. I thought the tribute was awesome inspiring &touched my happy emotions a rarity in TV today
WHERE WAS THE MEMORIUMS(IN MEMORY) SECTION OF THE SHOW???????????????????????
Yep, nobody has picked up on Spongebob finally winning. It was the Susan Lucci of animation for the last ten years.
as the world turns is highlight of the day for many, afamily to me and thousands of others, what are you thinking./?
@Carthy – they probably will be merged in a few years. Soap operas as we knew them are dying, and the few programs still staying above water are morphing into something else, so I think that merging of award ceremonies is inevitable.
@heartbroken – There’s a long list of people at CBS who mishandled Guiding Light and As The World Turns. Bloom is just one of the people who dropped the ball. Les Moonves drove these shows into the ground too, and now has an extra hour of daypart to program his wife Julie Chen into.
Julie Chen wouldn’t be on the air anymore unless she was married to the “boss”..I will not watch any show she might be on during the day!
Um, was this an awards show or a 2 hour add for the Las Vegas strip??? Honestly, there were times I couldn’t tell……
Billy Miller is a talent on Y&R and elevates the whole soap genre. Can’t wait for him to segue into real TV.
Did anyone else notice Rachel Ray’s ass? Holy Mazzola Oil, Batman, that thing is huuuuge. Girlfriend needs to get on the Stairmaster. Just sayin’.
I agree with Slyfox. THe show was a huge dissapointment. Where were the clip packages for each nom performers work? The best show clip packages?? Instead, we had performances from The Lion King and Cirque who had nothing to do with Daytime. This show was a complete dissapointment for people who are actually interested in Daytime Dramas.
Why are they caceling AS THE WORLD TURNS? IT IS THE BEST SOAP ON THE CBS NETWORK. I WILL GREATLY MISS THE SHOW.
Why bother at all with the award ceremony! Just present all to any soap that is being canceled. In this case “As the World Turns”. I find it hard to believe all the main actor worthy winners came from this same soap. The results were the same when “The Guiding Light” was canceled. So predictable…
I find it utterly unbelievable that abc soaps and actors were so ignored, they are simply the only ones worth of watching unless you are a long time fan of the others. Once I got my dvr I started taping the others as I am an avid soap fan but just could not get into the others even after giving them six months trial.
James Scott and Arianne Zucker definitely deserved an emmy for the portrayal of the characters “EJ Dimera” and “Nicole Walker Dimera”. What was the academy thinking about. James Scott is the hottest male actor in daytime soaps!!
Sorry everyone, but, ABC SHOULD HAVE WON AWARDS! In my opinion, CBS Soaps STINK! For SOME UNKNOWN reason, ABC is ALWAYS NEGLECTED! Except for UNREALISTIC General Hospital – which I would not PAY to watch! All My Children and One Life to Live focus on REALISTIC every day things. The other soaps, especially GH, does NOT! I vote for ABC and am SO VERY SORRY they are being cancelled! In my opinion again, I think they are being cancelled because of the cost to write them, pay the actors, etc. So what will replace them? Some DUMB COURT TV SHOW?? A Game show, A Talk Show?? I will answer that question myself: A CHEAP SHOW THAT IS “CHEAP” TO PRODUCE!!!! I wll REFUSE to watch ANY of them! I WON’T WANT TO WATCH THE REPLACEMENT SHOWS!! Time for me to TURN OFF THE TV and focus on the other things in life I enjoy. I have been watching All My Children for the last 35 YEARS! I even taped it with a VHS tape, then my DVR. Now I STILL DVR it, but watch it EVERY DAY! I will resort to the Cable Networks AND the PAY MOVIE CHANNELS! I won’t give ABC or even CBS my time of day! Focusing on MONEY instead of what REALLY MATTERS means YOU’VE LOST MY VIEWERSHIP!!! Just so you know!
And, ABC WAS NEGLECTED IN THE AWARDS “AGAIN”!!!! AS THEY ALWAYS ARE!!!
This IS my opinion!!
NO! I WON’T watch these Daytime Emmy Awards. They do NOT reflect what viewers REALLY watch!!! I wish the Cable Networks would pick these Soaps up!!! They WOULD get AWESOME RATINGS!!! ALL of this ALL FOR MONEY REASONS, “NOT” THE VIEWERS!!
