EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that the Bollywood goddess is interested in playing a real-life Second World War spy for British producers Mike Downey and Sam Taylor. The $15 million The Spy Princess will be their biggest production yet. I understand that the producers are heading out to India later this year to close financing. Judy Morris (Happy Feet, Babe: Pig In the City) is penning the screenplay. Based on the biography by Shrabani Basu, The Spy Princess tells the true story of Noor Inayat Khan, a Muslim Sufi female agent who was awarded both the George Cross and the Croix de Guerre. The project is due to begin shooting before Christmas.
Rai has married into the Bachchan acting dynasty, and I wouldn’t be surprised if her father-in-law, Indian star Amitabh Bachchan, gets involved. Sounds like a good project for some of that Reliance Big Entertainment crossover money too.
Film & Music Entertainment (F&ME), Downey and Taylor’s production company, is currently shooting StreetkidsUnited, a feature docu about a group of British and African street kids competing for the Street World Cup. Stephen Daldry (The Reader, The Hours) is executive producing.

I remember reading the story of Noor Inayat Khan, codenamed Madeleine, years ago, and it is an incredible story of courage. It has all the ingredients of a powerful movie, and will give Rai a chance to go beyond her glamorous image.
aishwarya rai is very talented actress and she can do any of roll she is verrrrrrrrry beautyfuland i love her can’t you see her perfomence in provoked her flim is not doing well in amrica because amrican people are hungery for sex and you will not see eaven a kiss in her hollywood flim
that is not true,I saw mistress of spices.American people are not all about a lot of making out.We love a good drama, or love story where their is romance and NOT lust. I am a Christian and there needs to be more movies that are just GOOD…Aishwarya Rai will do well in good movies, she is a good actor..
shes pretty but high maintenance. Will never be a star in america
Nonsense, she is not high maintenance at all. The directors who have worked with her have all said she is down to earth and not a diva – no demands and very professional. Rai is a private person and does not do the socializing and networking required to become a star in the West.
She is pretty much a homebody even in India. Rai gets more movies offers than she can handled so Hollywood is not a top priority. I don’t see her making it big in the West but she has no need to worry since she is already a superstar in most of the other parts of the world.
Rai is known as beauty with brains and has remained at the top because of her intelligence and hard work.
i agree with you. this inspirational beauty is the reason y the phrases like walking poetry are justified. She is a humble person, i can tell!
she is very good actor…..
I agree!
I don’t know about high maintenance but the problem is she’s an Indian actress not American. What’s most likely expected of her that any American actress would consider normal in an American movies would enrage those in India. Look what happened to that Indian actress who got kissed by Richad Gere in public. So if she wants to do American movies, she would be relegated to a lesser role. Why bother when you’re A-List in India? So don’t expect any big crossover with Hollywood and Bollywood.
Considering the fact that she is arguably the most beautiful woman in the world, I would love to see what kind of acting chops she has.
PS – I don’t know much about Amitabh Bachchan. But, what I do know is that, RAI would have been worth running through a crowd of people while drenched in human feces… all for an autograph (Slumdog $$)
I would recommend these movies – Iruvar, Kandukondain, Devdas, Khakee, Raincoat, Chokher Bali, Provoked, Umrao Jaan, Guru, Sarkar Raj and Jodhaa Akbar. For a fun popcorn movie, then watch Dhoom 2.
I concur vis-a-vis Umrao Jaan and Jodhaa Akbar (I love them both) and Dhoom 2; the others are in my Netflix queue.
And ISTR, Isn’t she another multi-talented actress? (Modeling, Music, etc…)
She is so beautiful, I will watch her in anything! JaiHo!
Aishwarya Rai’s beauty, brain, and grace brings the best results. She is natural born super star.
Are you kidding me??? aishwarya rai, in every american movie i’ve seen her in acts the same (overacts) and has a TERRIBLE accent I can’t stand hearing. They need to hire any unknown for this. Yes, Aish was a goddess in Devdas & absolutely spectacular (& the ONLY reason american film makers love her and are seeking her out), but has no one realized she cannot do contemporary roles at all…?! bad bad bad choice.
well haven’t u seen raavan, choker bali and umrao jaan? contemporary roles are a child’s play for her. . . u rule Aish! hollywood and bollywood!
i agregg aishwarya will won oscer award one day
she is most beauty ful women in the world i love her she is batter than anjelina loli and any actress she should do more moves in hollywood we would love to she her in spy princess i hive see her in the pink panther 2 she lookes gouges
Ash is beautiful but a HORRIBLE actress. She really cannot act her way out of a paper bag. Yes, she is a great dancer and conveys nonverbal emotions through her eyes much like a classically trained Indian dancer, but she cannot ACT and has an even worse accent in English (witness those L’Oreal commercials)…it’s a shame this project should go to her. Why not an Indian actress who CAN ACT like Nandita Das, or another good Bollywood or Indian-American actress who can do the needed accent? Fans of hers, please don’t attack, there are many people who think she’s a bad actress.
Aish is a very beautiful woman none the less but the truth is that she saw the opportunity to be famous and make money, she is very smart, I will give it to her, but am sure deep down she will not delude her as being a very talented actress, am going to be very harsh on the indian media and audiance, Indians are caught up with the model, beauty queen, star wife, star daughter, star son, star cousin, star girl friend, star nephew, star niece and star dog bull*******t, that is why their movies are flopping left right and centre. The writers have become lazy that they lift directly form hollywood movies and other regional movies, the audiance mediorce in their sensiblilties, but thank God a fantastic actress like Vidya Balan comes along every now and then, good writers and directors step in and we have little hope. Aishwarya Rai is not talented at all she is a below average actress, what happens to her is that her beauty captivates at first then something odd happens her expression refuses to change, she delivers the line but her huge forehead refuses to move, then her eyes just remains dull and nothing changes after a while boredom sets in and you just sit it out and ride out the movie, then you watch a kajol,a Kangna,a Rani and a Vidya you just realize that Aish is just a face with no acting depth. She is a prop, a beautuful prop.
