Mad Love, the Sony-produced ensemble comedy pilot, has been a frontrunner for a midseason order at CBS. Now I hear that the network has offered the studio a full 13-episode midseason pickup for the project and things look good for a deal to close. One main holdup for an order before the CBS upfront presentation in May was the situation with Lizzy Caplan, who guest starred in the pilot but wouldn’t commit to a series. That character is now being recast, and I hear Judy Greer’s name as someone the network and the studio like. Additionally, there are rumblings about other potential recastings. Meanwhile, talks between CBS and 20th TV over a midseason order for drama pilot Chaos continue. The issue there has been the size of the order, something that is not an factor in the case of Mad Love. Written by Matt Tarses and executive produced by Tarses and his sister, producer Jamie Tarses, Mad Love revolves around four friends in New York, two falling in love, the other two not so much. CBS Studios is co-producing with Sony.

EXCELLENT!!!
I’m mad to see Mad Love! Can’t wait! Finally a return to smart and funny tv!
That’s a pretty big statement about a show that will be entirely re-shot, don’t you think?
…because they’ll probably change the whole thing? Mad Love was a great script, a funny show (which will fit perfectly with HIMYM), and it’ll be even better if they can manage to snag Judy Greer.
That’s a pretty generic statement about a show you probably haven’t seen or read and know nothing about, huh? The talent, script and people behind this show make it worth looking forward to. Always somebody on this site that has to rain on someone else’s parade, huh?
There’s a reason Lizzy Caplan walked away from this CBS genericom — she doesn’t want the stink of this thing on her. Jason Biggs and the Friday Night Lights girl are completely lifeless in this deathtrap, and the whole exercise feel likes it was put together by the network marketing department rather than anyone with a funny bone. Textbook example why multicams suck.
Lizzy Caplan never had any intention of starring in the series if the pilot got picked up. She was cast at the 11th hour as a ringer cause they couldnt find an acceptable actress. Certainly, whatever numbskull is posting as “seen it” has never heard of a ‘straight man’ if you are going to rag on Biggs performance. This show is funny and has heart. Sorry your pilot didn’t get picked up, buddy. But don’t be bitter. You just sound like a bitch.
the show is very funny. I love it
Seenit,
I take it your brilliant script didn’t get picked up?
Tarses is among the best writers in town and Tyler Labine was hilar in pilot. Smart move.
Seenit’s negative opinion is as valid as everyone else who fawns like an idiot over anything that gets picked up. Everyone on this site jumps down the throat of anyone who has anything negative to say about any project whatsoever.
It’s okay to think some things are bad, “NotSoSureWhatYouSaw” and “Michelle T.” It’s overly righteous defenders of milquetoast projects like you that are making network comedy blander and blander.
