UPDATED: Veteran Ed Asner is set to co-star opposite Tom Arnold in CMT’s untitled David Litt comedy pilot. Additionally, Yes, Dear alumna Liza Snyder has been cast as the female lead. The multi-camera comedy is a multi-generational show about a man (Arnold) seeking the empty nest and his family who is unwilling to let him have it. Asner will play the guy’s outspoken and gruff dad who believes he’s always right and has recently began dating after separating from his wife of forty seven years. In the 2003 version of the project, which had a brief run on ABC as Regular Joe, the role was played by
Judd Hirsch. Snyder will play Joe’s sharp, funny and attractive wife, described as ”a perennial mother who’s very proud of the job she’s done raising two almost grown kids who haven’t turned out to be serial killers.” In the 2003 incarnation, Joe was a widower. Asner, who recently voiced the central character in Up, holds the record for most Emmy wins, 7, by a male performer. Asner, who also is in final negotiations to join the feature The Home, is repped by Greene & Assoc. and manager Perry Zimel. Snyder is with APA and manager Susan Smith.

well, that should assure it’s future.
I don’t reckon the Rednecks and Tea Party types will be watching much of this given as how Ed’s political views are to the far left of theirs. I could be wrong though. And I don’t think Ed is the male version of Betty White either.
I’m telling you this show has a rehash feeling.
Thank you.
I’m telling YOU… No one here cares what you “tell us” or what your “feelings” are. I’ve seen others post what appears to be an ongoing theme… GO AWAY!!!
Thank you.
You are here among other reasons for provocative writing. That is why like her or not Nikki Finke is the best. Good writing provokes emotion, and is memorable. There is a reason you follow me, a reason I stir such emotion in you. I take this as a compliment. I might add, I’ve never recognized any of your comments, Derr, you are forgettable. That is something WE don’t care about.
Thank you.
You’re really annoying.
Ed’s work on the Boondocks animated series is quite underrated. His Mr. Wuncsler character is hilarious.
Asner’s voice work is always solid. Loved him on FREAKAZOID!, a show where they frequently acknowledged the “real” identities of the voice actors.
Ed Asner has done so much for the transgendered community. He spoke with Ted Danson at our annual function at the Mondrian, and I support him even since the Lou Grant days.
Ed Asner is so underrated. He is the gay Mary Tyler Moore.
Ed’s got spunk.
I hate spunk!
It was made between the 70s and the 80s. It was about people being enslaved underground and they had to mine this ore that controlled the galaxy. They had no clue that a surface world existed and one day they came across the sword that prophosised the coming of a warrior who would free them. One of the kids takes the sword handle and escapes to the surface. The sword handle has no blade, yet it can cut through anything. Ed Asner voices a Han Solo like space pilot who reluctantly helps the kid liberate his people.
Ed Asner is a LEGEND, and I am sure anything he touches will turn to ratings gold. I’m still peeved he never made out with Mary Tyler Moore on their show though. Maybe she’ll make an appearance and they’ll finally make out on screen – you know . . . just to make me extra happy!

>>I don’t reckon the Rednecks and Tea Party types will be watching much of this given as how Ed’s political views are to the far left of theirs<<. The "Tea Party types" as you refer to them, are well aware that much of Hollywood is more liberal than they are. That said, they are generally able to separate someone's politics from entertainment for the most part. They have enjoyed Ed in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Up", and many other films and TV shows. That is a tolerance, however, that many of the liberal types still need to learn (see talkbacks about any article that refers to Patricia Heaton, for example).
Why do people even CARE about an actor’s politics? It must be something in their water.
I think it has something to do with suspension-of-disbelief. It’s easier when their real life isn’t quite so front-and-center in your head. It’s not so much why it’s front-and-center, just that it is.
I would love to get a copy of The Gathering I and II. Christmas DVD with Ed Asner.
Anyone know where I can get these copies?
Thanks
Please more comedy shows.
Get rid of all those dreary as crime shows.
A mazing how ‘friends’ is still the funniest
show on tv.
What is with all these older actors coming back and trying to star in their own shows?? The economy must be hurting them too.
