There’s been a lot of speculation about HBO’s upcoming adaptation of George Martin’s A Song Of Ice and Fire series of novels. The cable network debuted the first trailer for the fantasy series before the season premiere of True Blood tonight. It’s more of a teaser promo, but here it is:

With Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Treme and Game of Thrones, HBO is officially back!!!!!
From where?
i. am. so. excited.
winter is coming, bitches!!
This series is going to be so incredibly badass. This teaser didn’t really show us a whole lot, but I have a lot of faith that the show is going to be amazing.
Great. Another show about white people.
Give me a break. Seriously.
HBO had the guts to produce The Wire for 5 glorious seasons, and that series was the best story-telling ever aired, about PEOPLE, black-white-ganster-cowboy-vampire, or otherwise.
You should thank the heavens for HBO.
Peggy,
what is it that you’re trying to say? That HBO is racist? If so, that argument will not hold water thanks to one David Simon.
So, you’ve read the books, huh? So you are completely educated on who and what the show is about, correct?
Did you just read the bits where there are white people and ignored the rest?
Peggy, it’s people like you that keep holding minorities back.
What the fuck do you want? Really? What the fuck do you want?
Is The Wire and Treme not enough for you? Treme’s one of the best shows on television right now and there’s like, 3 white people on it.
The biggest movie star in the world is black, one of the most prolific and profitable (albiet, awful) filmmakers in the world is black. A black director was just nominated for an Oscar…
Quit your goddamn crying. Really.
-Teddy, the black writer… idiot
Amen. SO friggin sick of that…
Gee Teddy, I just saw the premiere. ANd yeah, its not another show about white people only. So far only one distinctly swarthy tribe, whose wedding rituals include gang raping the only women of color (so far, cause hey! ya never know!). The non-white tribe’s women who writhe about half naked and covered in body paint while their tribesmen go about indiscriminately brutally killing each other all jacked up as a result of the gang rape.
Which begs the question, just how many black people do you know that makes that not racist. The shite is racist, which does not mean the show is unwatchable, just racist.
If you had actually read the series you would know there is a wide variety of people, pretty much representing every ethnic group currently on this planet. so shut up.
Let me get this straight. HBO decided to shoot the first book of a series that the author has said he has no plans to go back to anytime soon to finish? There’s thinkin’ ahead. Oh, and, the trailer… Yawn. Big yawn.
Actually, Martin’s contract EXPLICITLY gives HBO permission to continue or resolve the series in any way they see fit if Martin doesn’t write any more books.
“Has no plans to go back to anytime soon to finish” is 1) baffling sentence structure and 2) misleading. Martin has been working on the next book in the series since he finished the previous one. He is taking forever, but he hasn’t abandoned it.
The author’s website says he’s still working on it–talk on the blogs is that he’s asked another writer for help with it. While I would love to read the nextbook, I know the story is so complex it can’t be easily tied together without compromising the work he’s already done.
And it’s not juat about ‘white people’….
Martin is still very much working on the series and he’s pretty close to finishing the next book (but he’s been “close” for months now…having a lot of trouble with one section). He hasn’t asked any other writers for help. He did write an April Fool’s post about that last year, I believe, but that was just a joke.
So, Boardwalk Empire is the new Sopranos and Game of Thrones is the new Rome? A show can do no wrong with Steve Buscemi, Martin Scorsese directing the pilot and Terence Winters writing the pilot for Boardwalk Empire. A show can also do no wrong with Lena Headley
Heard they are reshooting the Pilot…reworking a mess.
Two major characters from the pilot were recast (Catelyn and Dany), so all scenes with them will be reshot (which is the bulk of the pilot, all told). Word is the pilot came out really great, otherwise, not a mess. Why the recasting of those roles? Nobody knows.
False. Re-shooting some parts of the pilot because a few of cast members were replaced.
This may be a great show, but that teaser trailer is Worthless. GD horribly BAD. Jeeeze, I could have cut exactly the same thing just by taking footage out of a couple of sword & fantasy films. What fool at HBO paid for this shit? He/she should be fired for putting together/approving such cliche crap.
You want to see a good HBO trailer? See the one for their series ‘Boardwalk Empire’. Now THAT’S a trailer!
Actually Peggy, there’s people of color all thought out the books. So, go pick up a book or go eat a dick.

It’s not that we didn’t see the last time you posted this (Sunday June 13, 2010 @ 10:42pm PDT)… it was just that nobody cared.
Aren’t there like five books already? That’s five seasons (possibly more, there’s a ton of content in all of them) right off the bat. While I’m looking forward to this show a lot – who actually thinks it’ll get more than five seasons anyway? lol
Not true. He’s absolutely working on the books still and close to finishing the 5th. He will (hopefully) be finished with the series by the time the show gets to Seasons 6 and 7.
I can’t wait to see this! It looks sick! Looks like were going to get some good new shows finally!
What’s the difference between this and the recently cancelled “Legend of the Seeker”?

Probably pretty much everything, other than that both shows are based on fantasy novels. But both series are quite different in tone. “Legend of the Seeker” was a cheesy sword & sorcery show; the main conflicts in the source material were all about magic and focused on two characters. The source material for “Game of Thrones” involves a ridiculous amount of characters and isn’t about magic, but is inspired more by medieval history. I can imagine what the two TV series would have in common other than the fact that people use swords and ride horses.
Is this about vampires? Aren’t there enough films/shows about vampires already? Sigh…
It’s not about vampires. It’s about the dynastic struggle for control of a vast empire called Westeros. It’s a dark, gritty fantasy that has more in common with historical fiction like “I, Claudius” and actual historical events such as the Wars of the Roses than it does to even something like “Lord of the Rings.”
I’ve read all the books thus far and haven’t come across a vampire in them. There are direwolves, dragons, and The Others but no vampires. I’m surprise how people will easily criticize without doing some research first. And the storyline is much more intelligent and complex than “Legend of the Seeker” not to mention character development already established for HBO thanks to Martin. Winter is coming. The vampires will only be mere dream.
Offers went out to directors a few weeks ago to reshoot the first two hours entirely.
