You know how sometimes you try hard to leave work at home — but it follows you wherever you go? That happened to me when I was driving my girls to gymnastics today.
A long line of SUVs and minivans, most of them carrying little ones to JAG Gym in Culver City, formed at 1 PM today when a female police officer blocked off the street. Unlike other parents who looked very puzzled, I had figured out what was going on by the small yellow ”TILDA” sign on National Blvd and the RM/G Media Group logo. (That’s the name of the media conglomerate from the Bill Condon-directed HBO pilot Tilda starring Diane Keaton, which is now shooting in Los Angeles).
But there were no signs that the street had been closed for filming — and yet there we were, sitting in our cars for 10-15 minutes with no explanation. When I asked the officer for one, she yelled that a production “owns the street” and all we could do is sit and wait. Several moms came to me afterwards to ask what happened. Since I’ve been covering the project, I had answers.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Wow – are you going to plug Tilda every single day – even on the weekends?
i agree
Those who said HBO is back are absolutely right. With shows like Treme, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones and now, Tilda, HBO is definitely giving AMC and Showtime a run for their money again.
I drive by that place all the time – I was wondering why it was so fixed up.
Is this really news worthy? A “Tilda” fluff piece? A plug for JAG gym? This sounds more like someone’s twitter, then an actual article. I had to read it over, just to make sure I didn’t miss the brilliant gems of information. All I learned is that you have daughters that go to gym class. Put it in a blog. Traffic is held up all the time for shooting. Lets be thankful they are shooting in Los Angeles and giving jobs to our city and stimulating our economy. Bummer your little girls were late for class. Leave your house a little earlier next time.. Cant wait to hear about all the other productions you drive past and are not a part of.
AH fucking MEN
The Tilda promotion is starting to get a bit too obvious. Let’s talk bout it when it finally airs….Enough already !
No production should own that street in that tone of voice. If there were no signs saying the street was closed, then 15 minutes is an awful long time to hold you there. Before Tilda gets a bad name why dont you call production and tell the to do it right or dont do it at all.
Wait! A TV show being shot in Los Angeles inconvenienced you??? Is this news because a show is actually being shot in the city limits or because this is the first encounter you’ve ever had with the entertainment industry?
Soon we’ll miss the days when there was production in L.A. holding up traffic.
EXACTLY – the show Chaos is leaving for Texas with it’s 50 million dollars. the pilot was shot hear and once again ARNOLD WAS TOO LATE AND TOO LITTLE
Yesterday they tied up Sunset near La Cienega at rush hour. I looked for Nikki F, but realized I wouldn’t know what she looked like these days….
“Still No Word if Tilda Swindon Plans to Watch Tilda!”
Just in case you guys are running out of Tilda-centric headlines.
Just FYI: It’s Tilda SWINTON.
Why didn’t you call and complain to FilmLA like everyone else in the business..Are you saying the street wasn’t posted correctly? Hmmm.. who cares..
Nice! I was on my way to BevMo to check out the many discounts at the Studio City store opening. Traffic came to a screeching halt. Luckily, I just got new brakes on my Honda Accord. While everyone in traffic was confused I realized immediately that they weren’t shooting anything. It was just a red light. Luckily I had taken advantage of the Pearle Vision memorial day sale and was wearing my new glasses.
lol, Kidco, LOL!
Wait, I thought we wanted productions to come back to LA? Now we are complaining that they held up traffic…
People sneeze while they are driving and its screws up the 405 for hours.
I will take the 15 minutes if it means that we are filming here.
Everyone at Deadline Hollywood needs to take a moment to look down and admire the shark you’re jumping.
So what if it is a puff piece? I thought it was an interesting lil Tilda tid bit. If I was NELLIE, and I had been writing about Tilda for the past month or so and I came across the production in such a random (coincidental) way I would write about it too.
For all we know she is not just shamelessly plugging the show, but maybe she is just excited about it.
I mean, with the talent involved, the show is a pretty big deal.
I actually wouldn’t mind reading more stories like this about the filming/production of tv shows and films
Except that, this wasn’t a story about “…filming/production of tv shows and films.”
This was a story about being stuck in traffic.
Deadline officially just jumped the shark! sad
Or how about..
“TOLJA: HBOs Tilda has nothing to do with that squigly thing over the letter n!”
F’n shill. This site is going south fast.
enough with the “hbo is back with blah blah blah” postings. we get it, you either work there or are trying to convince your girlfriend to keep in on the direct tv package so you can get the fights.
Yeah and next we’ll be debating oil spills!
I’m going to watch!
The mothers all asked you, because youre covering the story? Really?
Did you tell them that you were happy that there’s finally some action going on, on the westside?
Jesus, stop and think before you write something like that.
Betcha that one of those mothers is the wife of some below the line guy who’s been outta work.
or the husband/ father of some poor guy who’s been stuck in detroit or vancouver for months- away from his friends and family!!
WTF?? THIS is a story???
